Marv, Lavery, Virtue gone

A bit sad but once the list is produced I like to put down the ‘best’ eleven we have and then adjust it as new signing arrives.

Looking at what we have now and based on Critchleys usual formation we are looking like this without any signings yet….

3-5-2

Grimshaw

Pennington, Casey, Husband (tbc)

CJ, Apter, Norburn, Carey, Lyons

Beesley, Joseph

subs

O’Donnell
Gabriel,
Thompson
Sassi
Lankshear
Morgan
Miles
Kouassi

I see this as worst case but not too bad a side.
That's a bottom half side in next season's division in my opinion. A lot to do this summer. But we are only really going to miss Marv of the contracted players, plus the four loans. And we seem to pull in good loan players pretty often. If we could get Byers and Coulson I think that would be a great start, quality and continuity wise, but Byers probably a long shot.

Glad Husband looks like staying. Sorry Marv is leaving but even more important we keep Casey if that is so.

Of the rest I am sorry Mariette is going as I liked what I saw from him but the rest are not going to be a huge loss.

Clearly we need to try to sign Byers and Rhodes as a priority.Coulson possibly could be useful.

Harvey Bardsley will I guess become this choice keeper. Looking at what we have it doesn’t look too bad but defensive signings and a forward with pace are a must.
Trusty was unlucky as well with his injury

We've got Apter.
I'd like us to try and sign Femi Azeez (age 22) who got 9 goals and 9 assists for Reading last season, and Jack Nolan (age 22) who registered 31 goal contributions for Accrington... both available for free.
Far too young and now we've scrapped the development squad we've nowhere to put them anyway🤷

Ekpiteta, Lavery, Connolly and Virtue have all done well for the club, if not all the time, in the main. Marv is the only one of those being released which disappoints me but it's obvious he has his eyes on a move and wasn't interested in signing a new deal. We now have an opportunity to bring some fresh faces in who can improve our squad. Good luck to all those leaving Bloomfield Road.

So we're missing one player really and that converts us to a bottom half side?

I agree with you on the rest. There was agreement we needed to shift out deadwood. We've done that.

No, we've lost five of our end of season starting line up. And the top half of the division will be a lot stronger next season. We came 8th, with Dembele etc, in a weaker division.

But we've got loads of crap players still in contract like Beesley, Kouassi, Joseph, Husband, Casey, Pennington, Norburn, etc. Marv, Byers, Dembele and Rhodes carried this team.

Throw in a 3-5-2 formation and next season will be a relegation battle.

There is absolutely no chance in hell the club can organise a full rebuild and somehow turn us into a top 6 team. The club and fan relationship is at a low point and it's going to get worse which will make our home form replicate our away form.

The only chance Critchley has is to hit the reset button on himself as part of this rebuild. He needs to look at why he was successful in his first spell and why he failed this season. The main reason is the complete bollocks of a formation. He needs to rebuild and get back to the Blackpool way of playing exciting football with proper wingers.

No one is going to put up with this 3-5-2 next season.

we are missing the loan players too! They made a difference especially Dembele so yeh looking at what's left i wouldn't fancy us to be top half.
It would cost a hell of a sum to replace those 5 players on a perm basis. Obviously some will be loans, but that's not progressing the Club for the season after- more kicking the can.

Even if we did replace those 5 with the same quality (a long shot in Dembo's case), it leaves us well outside the top 6 in a real go at promotion, as this season showed.

edit Actually potting Critchley would mean we'd need less players, so may actually be the cheapest option.

yes perhaps, and is one of the reasons for me why we should have done so much better than we did last season. As many teams will testify getting back up can become harder not easier.

I thinks it’s best for all concerned they all move on … as others have said Marv will be a miss but we need to move in a new direction … It’ll be interesting to see where he & Lavery end up … I don’t see them as championship players personally

Don't think any of the released players will reappear in a higher division. Ekpiteta would have the best chance, Millwall might be interested, i think his biggest motivation will be moving to the south east. Charlton would be a good move for him.

The Wendies have stayed up, so they presumably won't offer him a new contract, two of the biggest wage payers have gone up, and I don't think the clubs coming down are going to be breaking the bank.

There probably aren't many better options for him in L1.

TBH
I’ll take those players going if we can sign Rhodes Coulsson & Byers on prrmandnts.
Plus 4 Loans of the quality of those 3 player plus Dembele.
But those four loans must include a quality Centre Back, Attacking Midfielder & Striker.
I don’t think we have quite as big a rebuilding job to do as some may think but…..our formations & selections have MASSIVE scope for improvement on the managers behalf !!

What a kick in the teeth for Matty Virtue. Only last week the club were wishing him a happy birthday on their website. A few days later they are showing him the door. Charming.

No major shocks IMO, got the nucleus of decent a squad already, hopefully rebuild and come back stronger, no one is irreplaceable so lets hope we get the right players in
How can you say that? Our best players gone. More than half a new team needed

You are obviously forgetting we still have Critchley.

He seriously needs to up his game and incomings accepted get his strongest side and tactics sorted rather than wait until the 45th game of the season

Except they're not free due to their age.
Free in terms of not having to negotiate a transfer fee for them.

Yes there is compensation fee due to being under 24, however this amount would be very small.
"The compensation amount is calculated according to a specific equation: the value attributed to the level of training (determined by the country and the calibre of the club) multiplied by the number of years spent training (between the ages of 12 and 21)."
So the compensation for Jack Nolan would be miniscule as he only qualifies for 2 years training at Accrington who are League Two with 2nd lowest average attendance, therefore low calibre.

You think they're crap. I'm not so sure.

If it were up to me I’d be letting a few more go off that retained list.

We weren’t good enough for promotion this season so I’ve no confidence of a lot of those players for next season either.

Move them on and have a proper clean out and see some decent proven new faces coming in.

Just disappointed not to see Critchley’s name on that released list.

Anyone in particular?

I don't think there's anyone on the list who isn't good enough at this level (Thompson, maybe), what's missing is a few who are good enough at the next one.

I’m afraid there’s a good few I’d be looking to move on these players have had a very disappointing season and I’ve no confidence these players can improve significantly to mount a serious promotion charge next season especially playing under Critchley for another season.

One you’ve already named but for me Joseph has shown nothing at all that tells me he can improve, Norburn has been a big disappointment same for Kouassi, and Morgan they play odd decent game then 10 games they go absent.

Sadly other than Norburn I don’t think we could get a fee for the others.

We need better otherwise it’s league one again for another season.

All based on who we bring in of course get some decent experienced players in I just might change my mind but I won’t be holding my breath not with what’s going on in the background with Sadler.

Let's not forget, you are in the minority in supporting and encouraging shitness.
i don't think i am though, you cant take a view from comments on here or which ever planet you are on, i would say are on Uranus personally and you talk out of it

Maybe didn't want to stay. Same with lavs. Not getting much game time, not playing under a head coach who wants to play decent football, Lacs had a burgeoning international career when he arrived. Virtue had a good season out on loan after his injury. I honestly get the feeling that the players don't like playing for critchley.

If you think back to the start of this season, Marv was a disaster waiting to happen. He came good in the second half of the season but another summer on, I can't see him improving and he always looks likely to lose his head at least once in a game.

He's a good league 1 defender, most are prone to a mistake or 2 but overall he's been excellent. He won't be impossible to replace but it won't be easy either. In terms of squad wage bill it should allow us to get some good replacements in.

Bit of a relief Virtue, Connolly and Lavery are gone, was worried they would get 2 year deals.
Shame about Ekpiteta but he will be off to the championship I imagine.
Yep Championship quality players are not good enough for Critch, apparently. Not a f'ing clue
