What has happened in the UK is that the centre has shifted in more ways than one. It's moved left (or liberalwards) in a social sense and right in an economic sense.
That makes calling people 'lefties' or 'right wingers' confusing. Some of the right wing are left wing and the left wing right...

The Hungarian national team was essentially Honved - they basically moved anyone any good in Hungarian football which was state run, to Honved. That meant that the national team had a huge advantage over other national sides in that the trained together daily for years.
