Games you’ll simply never get over

Every time we play at Ewood im reminded of that capitulation in the Prem season, how avoidable it was, and how we would’ve stayed up if we’d just held out.

The reverse fixture in that season where they scored an offside last minute winner also hurts.

Which games still get the blood boiling a bit when you think about them?

Fulham at home in the FA Cup replay - winner played United. 1-0 up until the last kick of the game where we gave a stupid free kick away in our own half. They hoofed it up and equalised with literally the past kick. Lost in extra time

Bloody hell, how long have you got?🤣🤣🤣

Away at Torquay in the cup after Grayson left for Leeds.

Got done for speeding on Motorway; rubbish performance at Match and food poisoning from dodgy kebab on Night out in Torquay after.

Never been able to look at a kebab since 🤮

I found it difficult to get over a game we didn't even play in

Cardiff 0 Orient 1, May 1978
The "fixed"game which sent us down (don't think Orient had won away for months) from which we took 29 years to get back again.

And some people still post that it wouldn't be a bad thing if we went down!!!

Great minds, it was a toss up between yours and the Torquay play off final. I plumped for Torquay, but the Cardiff Orient stitch up was sickening, a catastrophic end to a highly unlikely combination of results during the last few games of that season.

Been some bad ones over the years, but hammering Blackburn 5-2 in 78 and going down the same season takes some beating.
The car crash of 78, Cartmell sacked Brown after the chairman was called a backstabbing rat, and the rest is history ☹️

Walsall away in 1991. We went for a last-day-of-the-season promotion party – and I believe we were second in Division Four that day and so only either needed a point, or for any of the three teams below us to drop points. Lost 2-0 and every team below us won!! I sat in the goalmouth at the end and sobbed into my scarf!! Every time I drive past that damn ground on the M6 I remember that day 😭!

It was Peterborough again but this time a meaningless(for us) end of season game under Steve McMahon. Think we lost 1-4 and to a man every Blackpool player had his mind on a sun kissed beach, absolutely fuckin livid I was about the lack of effort.

We didn't capitulate, GTF had the ball in the corner keeping possession, at the same time getting the shit kicked out of him by two Blackburn players, the ref blew for a foul against Gary, the lumped it forward and scored. Another example of pathetic refereeing.

If we go down it’ll be an absolute disaster. As you stated it took us nearly 30 years to return 😡

GTF should have been awarded a free kick in the Rovers end, but the bent ref didn't give it and they went on to score, past our vertically challenged keeper 👿😡
EDIT: Sorry Victor, I've just read your identical nightmare. It shows how much that hurt lots of us.

Blackpool 1 man City 1v Richard Sendall scored a cracker for us and ref played on till they equalised.
Also Blackpool 3 v Gillingham 3 when 3 up with 10 mins to go.
Halifax 5 Pool 3 after being 3 - 1 up.

Arghhhhhh

So many!!!
West Ham Play off final (GTF plays, we win imo).

Bradford 1996 play off semi final

Man Utd away last game of Prem season, was gutted all summer, Just kept thinking of all the points we had dropped throughout the season.

Relegated to L2 at Oldham last game of the season (99/00 I think?)...Preston & Burnley had both been promoted to the Championship automatically aswell.

I could go on & on haha 🍊🧡🤣

Torquay play off...gave up my job and flew back from majorca... 90mins went for a pee and packed so steward said could go outside... then shut the doors. Eventually got in my storming past a steward (a load of us).... police only chased me!! As I had ticket all good... but then lost.

Oldham away when we got relegated and wellens got sent off. Remember doing conga to the front and right behind goal when bloody sugden scored 🤬

Cardiff had beaten all the top teams at home, Orient hadn't won away. The managers were best mates.
That's what I was told anyway.

Capitulation at Bolton in that season springs to mind too.

We were pants and I decided to leave 20 minutes early. When I got home ,we had scored 5 in the last 20 against Plymouth ,can't remember the year though .Probably late 70s early 80s.

That was the only goal Ryan Sugden ever scored for Oldham 🤬

That Gillingham 3-3 game is the one with longest impact.

How many years ago is it? Must be 25/30 years.

It means I can never relax until the final whistle. It impacts on how I chant too. I'll never give it to the opposition "time to go" "who are ya?" Etc etc. I just feel it tempts fate.

My kids think it's weird, but 3 goals with 8 minutes left, does it to you.

I was living near Pontypridd at the time and went to that game with a mate who was a Cardiff fan. I was sure that something dodgy went on there as was my mate.
Worst involving Pool was the second leg against Bradford.

Best goalmouth scramble in the history of world football - fact.

I worked in Sheffield with a City fan who was in the kop, his glasses went flying and were obviously doomed.

Vs Man City 1988? One of my first games with my dad - man cities last minute equalise had me in pieces !!
Oh yeah - Dave bambers horrendous penalty vs Torquay play offs
