Another 30,000 deaths will arise rise because lockdown was lifted too early claims the SAGE Group. Infection rates have stopped falling for the first time due to people starting to meet up again and 3000 continue to be infected every day. Chief MO Chris Whitty said he expects the infection rate to remain the same through 2020 into Spring next year, with 100-150 dying each day bringing the death rate to 80,000 by March. With global infections still increasing, it seems the pandemic is not going away until an effective vaccine is found. And on that front, I notice the media sneaked disappointing news of a delay in the Oxford trials into a few lines in the middle pages. Looks like nothing will be coming out of there until late Autumn at the earliest.

The post reads like two or three different sources conflated to give the impression of being more authoratative than it actually is, a claim made by political activists alongside statements from more reputable sources, the idea being to mask the political activism and thus ensure a free pass for them.

I think a decision was made that 100 -150 deaths a day is acceptable by the government and unfortunately it must be said sections of the general public.

Yes it would appear that getting the economy going again is now taking priority over health.
And it would also appear that going out and having a good time is now taking priority over peoples’ own personal safety
Globally there are more covid-19 cases than ever. I fear we’re going to be hit by a second spike. I hope so much I’m wrong. But I don’t know what the answer is.
We’re living through pretty rotten tines at the moment ☹

While the numbers of infection and deaths were going down there were some grounds for optimism but now they`re not, together with some incredibly stupid and irresponsible behaviour by large groups of lowlife in this country.

It`s especially depressing for those of us in the most vulnerable sections of society who`ve been living reclusive life styles for months.
 
Saying "Early lifting of lockdown will cause 30000 additional deaths" is just a statement.Where is the scientific evidence that lockdown had any effect whatsoever.They just seem to repeat and repeat the "only by the britsh peoples great sacrifice can we..." but where is the proof?

Already done it. Death rate has levelled out at around 150 a day in parallel with continuing rates of infection. If that pattern continues then we'll be at 80,000 excess deaths. That's from the Chief Medical Officer. Charlatan. Its not like he posts on here.
 
That Whitty bloke is the biggest doom & gloom merchant going.
I’d rather hear about positive actions & plans to make enclosed spaces & workplaces etc safer. It’s been nothing but confused mixed messages, slow reaction to changing events, and a Trumpesque refusal to accept the obvious benefits of face masks.

No, he didn't.

He posted a link that partially relates to the OP's post (and note that Wiz is not the OP) but this is an old trick, support part of the claim and pretend that the rest (usually the more damaging part) is correct without any further examination.

I mean this is debate 101, make a claim and then provide evidence, it seems that on here the accepted standard is make s*** up and then hope no-one checks so if I go against that, well sorry, but not everything on the internet is true and I've been at this game long enough to know to check and double check sources.

And the fact that I'm the only one saying this says a lot about the quality of the forum.

Tbf regarding links i was just giving my opinion on the situation as we are allowed to express them on a forum
You dont need a link for everything.

However in the interest of balance an opinion may not be right or wrong.
Its only an opinion and we are all entitled to one.

I dropped a factual link in on another thread but the mods deleted it. Seems some people only want links posting that suits their narrative or argument. So why bother.

I made the OP and I didn't add a link because I didn't feel the need to. The statements were made by the country's Chief Medical Officer and were reported in the tabloids and, as Wiz said, in the Independent. Stop obsessing about how many links you can get and give us your views on the report.

I read a lot of media and haven't seen the claim that SAGE are saying that the lockdown was lifted too quickly anywhere and I don't believe it's something they would say, so if you don't provide a link there's nothing to discuss and I just have to assume that you or some lefty activist made it up.

And you still haven't provided a link.
 
These figures quoted are just nonsense anyway. The best indicator would be the differential between the average number of monthly deaths in the UK and the actual number this year...then we will see an indication of the true death toll due to Covid

Perhaps you should try a newspaper, rather than a comic? The timing and implementation of the easing has been extensively discussed for at least a fortnight.

For someone who professes to be an educated person (and more troublingly an educator), you are beneath contempt. You know very well that the 'take it in the chin' comment attributed to Johnson was completely bogus; taken from an hugely edited clip that removed the context and then what Johnson actually said. Clearly it hasn't stopped the far left from continuing to promulgate the lie.

There is no way that you or your ilk should be anywhere near kids - in a position of influence in the classroom. You should be struck off.

At 6.29 Bozo states 'Take it on the chin' although he does cover his arse by leading with 'perhaps'. I've saved you're samity by finding the timestamp at 06:29 and not having to listen to this inane bumbling drivel he endlessly pours out. I listened for 06:30 loooooong minutes to get this info. What gives you the right to call for a man to lose his job. He cannot influence his pupils beyond the curriculum. As a teacher he is subject to stringent internal and external quality assurance and inspection. He will be observed by his line manager and peers and Ofsted actually teaching, his topics and teaching material is as well. There are parent evenings so if he was to tell any of his pupils anything out of the ordinary then this would be fed ba

No it wasn't. Google it. There is no firm evidence of a direct quote and that is what Cat is using. Cat is therefore totally wrong to use it as a quote.

The minutes were published. Google it. It was back when herd immunity was being discussed as a realistic option. Things might have changed but it was definitely said.

I have googled it and it was denied it was said. So if you can't show me the direct quote then as I said Cat was wrong to use it as a direct quote. If you can then I'll retract my comment.

Perhaps, If you paid attention that link is from full fact - the link is in the description and as I clearly point out I listened to his inane drivel for 6.29 minutes and seconds so I know what the clown was waffling on about and clearly state he said 'perhaps' giving him his theretical 'get out' clause. Perhaps if you weren't so keen to try a prove your point ,a clearer understanding of what I posted and why I posted it might help you in further debates.

Teachers aren't supposed to have sex with their pupils, that's standard practice in an educational setting. But guess what? It does occasionally happen. That's not casting any aspersions against anyone but sometimes the 'rules' aren't always adhered to.
 
Can I just say.....I listened to the whole YouTube video.

1.) I do think Bozo was offering the 'options' available.....not suggesting that we take it on the chin and I agree with Tangi

it brought up an article from the Independent, possibly the source of ttj’s o/p.

in that article the comment in question is attributed, I believe, to Independent Sage expert Christina Pagel. So no, not the Sage Group as per ttj.

in your very first reply to the o/p, it seems that you knew this already. Had you posted a link, we could have saved much wasted time and wasted frustration

Finally for some reason you seemed to decide that Independent Sage represent ‘lefty activists’ . I don’t suppose you can back that up with a link perchance
