Who was the manager when you went to your first match?

Ron Suart. There, I've shown my age.

The unusual situation in those days was that (pretty much) nobody ever got sacked. Growing up, I could name all the Lancashire teams managers for years; Andy Beattie - PKE. Harry Potts - Burnley, Jack Marshall - t'Rovers, Bill Ridding - Bolton to name but a few. Times have changed that's for sure.

The first I remember is Sam Allardyce, I know I went to games before that and sure it was during the Jimmy Mullen era. Back then I was more interested in the NCP orange and Mars bar my dad got me!

Sam Ellis I think, who soon sodded-off to the much more attractive set-up ay Gigg Lane, Bury! I think he even poached Tony Cunningham.

Suart. ' The thought of managing the club I once played for gives me a thrill'.
Ring any bells?. He looked like my old maths teacher, who also favoured a policy based on attack.

No idea, my Grandad took me in the early seventies, could have been Stokoe or Potts. When I started going on my own mid 80s it was Sam Ellis.

I can remember Ron Suart being manager but the lifetime of passionate following really only began for me with the signing of Gordon Milne in May 1967 though I may have seen a couple of matches before that. Suart left in February and Mortensen took over so Mortensen was the first manager I ever idolised.

Morty's sacking was stupid. He brought in Tony Green and Tommy Hutchison for the price of birdseed. Why have we had a history of idiot owners?
