Where are you from? Help me with this survey please folks.

You've outed me Mick. 6 months in Preston have branded me for life. :)

For some reason it took a long time for me to get my work required security clearance. That 6 months in Nobberville must have been the reason.🤔
You have a good mix of diverse heritage in your ancestry Bollie. Quite exotic 👍

Apart from the nobber bit 🤦‍♀️

The thing about my mum is a bit of a cheat as Grandad was in the army and were on the way to India when she was born.

We have a lot of info about my dad's family and one of my Dutch cousins has traced back to the early 1700's on both sides. One of my great, great, great grandmothers was Chinese. We have photos of her daughter (my great, great grandmother) who looked very Chinese - she only died in 1939 aged 99.

We have least luck tracing my London born grandad's ancestry. We have not found his family in any census data (despite having a pretty rare surname) - I have got his father's name and trade from grandad's marriage certificate and that's it.

Obviously you’ve likely searched variants, but If it’s an unusual name it could well have been spelt incorrectly?

I’ve had plenty of examples where the name has been wildly different to what you expect.

(Edit. other options might include adopting an anglicised version of name, using wife’s maiden name etc..)

Birth parents both Irish, I was born in London in a home for single mothers. Adopted, my father was born in Birkenhead and my mother in Ireland. Lived briefly Catterick Garison before moving with my Mother to Blackpool. Lived in a guest house before being joined by father on leaving army and buying a house on Newhouse Rd.
Dad then became a postman and his round included the Football Club. He would receive 2 complementary tickets for every home game in the West paddock. I was around 5 or 6 when he first took me, built me a little stool to stand on to see over the wall inbetween the dugouts. Happy memories of dad and me going to games and before kick off dad correcting the back of the programme with a biro and at half time flask of coffee and some sweets.
Remember Highland marching bands and before every match a walk through the Black forest was played lol!..
Interesting S1.
I was a Telegram boy for 3 years. Did National Service and returned to the PO where dad was a Postman. as I was for a couple of years.
Maybe I or my Dad knew your Dad.

Yep. There are variations on names because people couldn't read or write.

Tried that - my Grandad has an unusual middle name too and I think that might be his mother's maiden name so have tried searching on that. I have found some potential great grand-parents but dates don't seem feasible.

Yes, it was quite common to take mother’s maiden name as a middle name 👍

It’s frustrating when you hit dead ends like this… And to not find anything on any census is pretty unusual.

He was born six weeks after 1901 census and was abroad for 1931 census. 1921 census was destroyed so it only leaves 1911 census. I would have expected his parents to be on 1901 census but can't find a family who could viablly be them. Pretty frustrating.

Personally I'd rather the club took the hit of -1 ST and we refused entry in to the ground to this knobber....

😘😁
You can't choose your birthplace but you can choose where you decide to live. Anybody who chooses to live in a Nobber postcode is highly suspect. 🤔

Talking about parents names reminded me of my Mothers Birth Certificate.
On it, it says Surname: Marsh
Forenames: Mabel Maud Dean (or it looks like Dean.
Mum was born and christened in Cape Town SA .
I often asked her about the 3rd forename, Dean
She said she didn't know where it came from.
Doing family history I eventually realised the the 3rd Forname was, in fact 'Deacon', which was a family name from her fathers side in Devonshire
The B. Cert. was written in Cape Town and the writer must have mis-heard.

Apparently, 70% of Blackpool folk are from elsewhere, but we all support the community club.

I'll start.

Dad born in Burma as his dad was an RSM stationed in Rangoon.
His dad born in Darlington, but the family lived in Pontefract, so my dad originated from Pontefract.
His mum born in Cork, south coast of Ireland. Died tragically falling on spikes whilst pregnant. Baby died too. My dad was 8.

Mum born in Airdrie. Her entire family from Airdrie, but spread nowadays to Coventry and all over Britain plus Canada and USA.

I was born in Yorkshire.

I am 100% Blackpool through and through. I don't know anyone with 4 grand parents from Blackpool.

Anyone on here with 4 Blackpool born grandparents?
Not me. I’m from Accrington, where both my parents hailed from. Ditto grandparents on both sides. Moved to St Anne’s when I was sixth months old. Moved progressively up the coast to Anchorsholm, Fleetwood then Preesall.
Have lived all over the place since: Oxford, Balham, Walthamstow, Elephant and Castle, then Leamington. Some 2001 been settled in Norfolk.

Dad's family off Park Road. My grandad was called Big Dick Parr. A very Blackpool/Lancashire surname. One of my Dad's cousins traced the family lineage back to Catherine Parr, Queen of England. The wife that outlived Henry 8th.

Born Blackpool vic. Dad Stretford, Mother London.
Luckily taken to Bloomfield Road and not Old Trafford
