782 people in hospital in England with Covid-19. Last monday the number was 537 and a fortnight ago 472.

Instead of negativity let’s have some positivity.

heres a list of percentage of population that have NOT died with Covid.
Belgium 99.944%
Spain 99.956%
Italy 99.957%
France 99.965%
UK 99.972%
Netherlands 99.975%
Sweden 99.980%

looks a lot better that doesn’t it, let’s also not forget there’s over 1250 hospitals across the UK so lots of them don’t even have Covid patients. Not bad for a population of nearly 67,000,000.

If we'd lost 65 million of the population you'd still support this Government's approach.

I still think most of the more vulnerable are being cautious.
Although the fatality level is low you still have to be concerned with increasing hospital admissions.

As case numbers increase, an increase in hospital admissions and deaths is inevitable. We are still dealing with the same virus...

To a point, but I'm not so sure that that is true this time, not at the same levels as before. When the thing struck in March (or some say at the end of last year), scientists knew SFA about the disease. Thanks though to scientists at Oxford University, it was discovered that treatment of critically ill patients with a cheap steroid reduced the rate of deaths significantly. Their findings have gone around the world and are making a big difference.

Good news. Imagine how much worse it would have been under Jezza and his sidethick😀 John Mc Doughnut.🇬🇧👍

The main difference between now and March is that we had 10-20 times more cases in March than we have at present.

I’ve never posted anything about supporting the governments approach. It’s all about common sense.

More positive news. 94% of the adult male population survived WW1.

Why do the gloomsters have to focus on the dead all the time?

Absolutely! They would have told illegal asylum seekers to bring in other viruses...ones that kill only tories. Then they would have served up their remains for dinner! No, it's true, I met this bloke and he said.......

Yesterday, I had to take my daughter on a road trip, 200 mile round trip to Galashiels in Scotland for a test, otherwise she had to stay off work for two weeks, she is a keyworker and does not have a car. On the way I passed a testing station in Moffat and on the way back one in Hawick. Johnson and his cronies are absolutely inept, I can now see why many Scots want out of the UK. Until my daughters results I have to isolate as well.

It saddens me that, up to this time, there has been no talk that I have seen of any sort of national memorial service for the people who have died in the pandemic. It may be too soon for that, but when you see the story for example of 33 London bus drivers who have lost their lives, I do think there should be some kind of memorial service for all those who have lost their lives.

It's a good job we didn't have the internet in 1945. Grandad Scaramanga would have been on here saying that as over 80 million Japanese people weren't wiped out at Hiroshima and Nagasaki, we should focus on the positives.

I've seen plenty of stupid posts on here over the years, but you are plumbing new depths.

By the time the final figures are adjusted downwards, there won't be anyone dead.

It's great news that deaths have fallen substantially. The issue now is the lack of available testing which is keeping people off work for longer than necessary. Anyone with symptoms has to stay at home and request a test within a certain timeframe but for many access is being denied. Isn't there a five day deadline which, once exceeded means self isolation for 14 days?

Both utterly ridiculous analogies....

The issue with Covid is set against a backdrop of unprecedented measures that impact on our civil liberties and the economy.
What would you have said about the 'inconveniences' in 1939? After all, no war came to Britain until well into 1940. Would you have been moaning about the impact on civil liberties then? Man up! We all have to do it and with good reason.

We’re not in 1939 and this is not a war, so I’m struggling to rationalise your argument?

And I’m not “moaning about the impact on civil liberties” I was highlighting the significant differences between glib comparisons like ‘Harold Shipman’ and the ‘Yorkshire Ripper’ (as per the link included with my related comments).

Unlike these silly comparisons, the public (including posters on here) have every right to reflect on the nature of the statistical reporting, when the impact of the related measures are impacting our lives in such a significant way.

The economic effects are not without human cost, including (ultimately) loss of life / premature death, reduction in quality of life, long term health and social impacts etc..

The impact on civil liberties is not a trivial matter either. Those liberties were hard fought for and so perhaps your reference to WW2 is relevant in that regard.... Of course, there’s every reason that the public should pull together and act responsibly in a time of crisis, but it’s also important that we focus on the reality, the genuine and balanced effect of the virus on our population and not get carried away with the constant stream of negative hyperbole.

What are you talking about you stupid old man, whats actually incorrect or wrong in my post ?

I think that’s all fair enough.

To be honest I’m all over the place with this pandemic and our response to it. I heard the question put another way the other day which sums it up.

“Are we using a sledgehammer to kill a fly?”.

I think they’ve probably begun to admit as much. Unfortunately, given our complete lack of preparedness and complacency even in the face of a progressive crisis, options were limited.

In fact, looking at the way our testing system (several months in the development) is already crumbling under the slightest pressure, it’s hard not to imagine we’re likely heading towards blunt instrument mode yet again.

It’s hard to imagine a bigger clusterfuck and mismanagement of a crisis tbh.

Well re your last paragraph there is also the Brexit clusterfuck but we should probably keep the threads separate to avoid cross infection 😂

And when I say cross I mean.....
