Anyone changing anything because of Coronavirus?

My Facebook tonight has 3 different people who have cancelled flights to Europe (mainly Italy) because of the Coronavirus. Anyone else just seen it like the flu which you could catch anywhere? You've probably more chance of getting skin cancer from the sun or a dodgy liver from the booze than catching this! Complete over-reaction!

Just arrived back from Thailand, walked straight through Manchester airport, no checks at all. Bangkok had thermal imaging cameras and a lot of places took your temperature before letting you In. It seems the UK government are leaving it up to the people to self isolate.

Most zombie/apocalypse films begin with similar escalating news footage.
It's very easy to extrapolate.
Thing is, it'll get us or it won't. Is there really anything we can do?

Well, I'm panic buying tabs, papers and wine. And self-isolating to be sure.

I haven't booked a holiday yet. I'm waiting to see how it goes. Maybe, a bit chicken, but I'm in the "high death-rate" group, so why take a chance?

While for most people the symptoms are likely to be mild, the mortality rate of 2% for covid19 is about 20 times that of a typical flu year.
As for skin cancer you've roughly a 3% risk in your lifetime and for 0.4% of the population this will prove fatal.
Putting those figures into context, I'm not sure it is an over reaction. One factor we do not yet know is whether this virus will prove seasonal like flu.

Could be good news for Blackpools tourist industry, the hoteliers and taxi drivers will still be moaning Edited - offensive language

I'm thinking of having my chinese takeaway delivered & left outside the front door.

Seriously we won't be visiting any of the risky areas abroad, if for no other reason would you want to be quarantined for 2 weeks or more.

Booked holiday at start of year to go back to Costa Adeje a week on Friday as we enjoyed our hol there just before Christmas (and missed Cods game at home) our (same again) hotel is about a quarter of a mile from the Locked Down H10 one (and will miss the Cods fixture away - same sunbed same result for Pool!) - were taking 80 year old mum in law but second thoughts on that now and waiting to see if F.O. come out with new advice! Some concern but will be going unless advised not to (and can claim on Holiday Insurance)

On top of that booked for weekend in Shrewsbury for when we play them but haven’t got any sub-aqua gear to hand!

Reckon I’ve run over a Nun or something!

Already booked 2 cruises at a bargain. Fly out to Miami in mid April with Virgin airways. 2 nights in a 4 star hotel then 16 day Cruise back to Southampton calling at New York, Bermuda, Azores with overnight stay. On to Lisbon and Vigo all for £499.
Love these panic situations.
Hope Sadler is taking advantage of the falling Stock Market.

second Cruise is in October. Adriatic and Greek Islands.

You might not love it if the Americans ban cruise ships docking in the coming months.

Yep no business flights to Singapore atm.

As someone who lives in Singapore it’s probably one of the safest places on the planet currently!!!

It may change but they seem to have it under control.

They banned anyone entering who had been in China in the previous 14 days a month or so ago.

Europe needs to lock down some travel.

Flying to Sydney via Abu Dhabi Friday 6th March, hoping flights aren’t affected. Not sure about face mask for airport. Advice seems to be they don’t work, but hundreds of thousands are wearing them. Makes you wonder.

I'm flying to Oz grand prix 11th March, via Dubai. Whatever happens happens, the in flight Heineken will kill any germs if I drink enough.

We've been advised only business critical - my need for Jumbo crab doesn't count apparently!

How long have you been in Singers? I'm thinking that could be my next move.

First moved here in 2011 for about 2.5 years and then Sydney for two years and then back here for a year, then Germany for a year and now back here - best place I have ever lived!

I do miss people on the Gold Coast though.

if there is anything you want to know feel free to ask👍

I've got flights and some accommodation booked in Puglia, Southern Italy and later a night in Rome flying out three weeks today. I have booked a night in a spa hotel which I am guessing will be closed if the virus spreads further in Italy. One (possible) reason for the spike in cases in Italy is the very good and thorough health care system there which are probably doing widespread testing (unlike the UK). A friend returning from Venice to the UK two days ago was not checked at all upon arrival here.
My holiday looks to be in jeopardy ATM but I am sure things will look very different in 3 weeks time. I have been to Brighton - where most UK cases were - a few times recently and haven't died yet so I am hoping I will still be able to travel.
I feel that the media is over-hyping things, causing people to panic, not enough is known yet about what appears to be a very bad type of influenza. Many people have probably had this virus without knowing it.

Got back from Spain on Saturday and have been ill for a week now...as I am otherwise fit and well, I am overcoming whatever viral symptoms I was exposed to but I’m glad I’m not immunodeficient. Trip to Italy in May now highly unlikely....

It’s just another strain of flu FFS google it and on average flu as we know it already kills 600 people in the U.K. annually mainly the already sick/elderly generation.
I don’t recall one death yet in this country from this new flu virus?

As usual massively over hyped. For the majority its just a case of the flu. There is a higher chance in the elderly or in cases of compromised immune system because of other pre existing illness but that's the same with most viruses.
People seem to be shocked that flu is being passed around between people in close proximity and that it is killing people. Its always done that and always will . We had the exact same with Sars, Mers etc.

Think Sooty has a valid point but then we’ve just come back from a two week cruise so have no further holiday plans for this year.We just delete the numerous daily cruise, easyJet,TUI,Emirates, etc offers in our e mails without reading to avoid temptation and besides which I am told we need to save for a new bathroom suite, etc so no more holidays ( anywhere) for a while.
Hopefully those who decide to go away have a great time and are not put off going.

Two more patients have tested positive for coronavirus in England, bringing the total number of cases in the UK to 15.

They have been transferred to specialist NHS infection centres, the Department of Health said.

Face masks are probably as reliable as wearing a sock rather than a condom.

Myself and Mrs Bennys seem to have chosen an adventure holiday, chasing this Corona virus around Asia via Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bali this May and unless we are told otherwise we will be going - happy holidays ✈☀👍

All those locations are fine and if you want any tips for Bangkok, Bali and Singapore let me know 👍

WE wore surgical face masks through airports and on trains, but not in open spaces, as people have said I don't know how effective they are, I think washing your hands before you eat and trying to keep your hands away from you face is important.

Bottom line is a surgical mask is designed to stop the patient or people around you getting infected - not you!!!

What happens is the germs collate on the front, you touch the mask and they all go inside you.

Also your breathing creates a warm damp spot which the virus loves to duplicate in.

DO NOT WEAR MASKS unless YOU are ill.
