New manager needed.....but keep Critchley

This won’t go down well with some on here, certainly not with NC, but I believe SS needs to bring in an L1 experienced manager ASAP to save our season. We have been “out tack-ticked” by both Gillingham and by Ipswich yesterday, both by well seasoned managers. Our inability to switch from 433 to say 442 or other systems makes us so predictable as Brett eluded to yesterday. Our use of subs is shocking as well as controlling games in the right areas of the pitch. Too much possession and no killer instinct is all down to leadership. For me, NC should be retained as a coach and help our cause of setting up the new academy right down through to the youth set up etc. I’m sure with this group of players there’s far more to get out of them by the right manager. As I say, this won’t go down well with some, but BFC MUST come first before any individual.

Can I just saying going back a week, that this was one of the most ridiculous posts I've ever read on AVFTT!
FE, forgive me but it's just a view. I posted it last week after the Ipswich game (thanks for the bump) and I felt at the time of writing it (having watched all the pre season games, cup games and all this seasons league games) that it was all too samey samey and I couldn't see how NC was going to change his tactics mid-game in order to change the shape of a game into our favour? I see him as a reflector, he'll go home and think long and hard about things I'm sure. He'll try a few things on the training ground ready for the next game, but when your back is against the wall mid-game it's a question of how you then outmanoeuvring your opposite number to get back on top during the 90 minutes? Brett has commentated on both the last two games now, and his comments from the Ipswich game were echoed yesterday. A lot of possession without clear cut chances, albeit the goal Ward scored. In days gone by, we'd have made minced meat out of teams like Crewe yesterday, they were there for the taking, but it was very difficult to where the pressure on the keeper was going to come from?

Last year with the Feeney and Nando combination, it wasn't always pretty, but it got us goals and we were in the top two at this stage last year. To be fair equally about last year though, Grayson also struggled to change things when he'd been outmanoeuvred by other managers. The point I was trying to make last week, was that it's very predictable already, and how much time does NC have until it works? Our previous successful
L1 and L2 managers have all been outwardly passionate and that was reflected in our urgent playing styles, I guess I'll have to get used to NC's relaxed arm-folded style? Anyway, the new signings may offer the final piece of the jigsaw for him, but if it still doesn't work after say another 6-12 games, what then - are we content to have another season sitting in mid-table whilst the we play the same way for the full 90 minutes - as pretty as it is to watch? Let's have another chat then eh? 😊

Another couple of home defeats and we are looking at a dogfight with the also rans. Vital couple of games now.

Absurd.

As you disagree, constructive comments highlighting how at least you justify your reasons for disagreeing are what makes debate on here worthwhile. Words like "absurd" and "absolute drivel" just devalue the debate and don`t reflect well on those who post them.
Agreed 50’s, whether people agree or not it’s good to read the thoughts of those that disagree and take time to elaborate in order to understand where they are coming from. I spent a bit of time writing my second post in this thread to at least try to explain my thinking even though I do agree my initial title to this post was a trifle rash this time last week. But hey ho, that’s life eh?

If Paulco thumbs up this then your comments have to be crap...oh and yes it is....I’ll judge where we are with NC when we have played a lot more than 6 league games with a squad of mostly new faces.
Maybe I’m old enough to have a lot more patience than some on here.

Bump, a little something I once posted about Critch's inability to change things mid-game - although Fedora Explorer didn't agree, do you now?

@HetzkeBlaster - give us the lottery numbers for this weekend
Very astute observation and arguably Calderwood and McCall saved him.
Ha Ha, yes. I got a couple of pelters at the time, but I thought after his first 6 or 7 games in 2020 that he was struggling impacting games when needed. Calderwood changed it for us for sure. The away game at Burton (I think it was 0-2), when he went 442 for the first time with natural footed wingers and Gaz Goals up top with Jerry was a breath of fresh air. And as you say, I think it saved him back then.
