Changes for Tuesday?

Was noticeable how the defence wasn't really troubled yesterday but I would have thought Charlton will be a sterner test and so do you change things there? Whilst Ward was better, I think I'd try a different option and whilst Williams gave us a bit more protection at the back, do we want to be on the front foot at home?

I think Williams lets the attacking midfielders play with more freedom, so I'd leave him in. (Or play Kenny Dougall) if he's fit.

The more you trust what's happening behind you, the more likely you are to take risks going forward and do things like get up and around Madine or try a first time pass.

I think there might be a couple of changes in the defence with husband going to left back and maybe ballard or the iceman in at centre half,if garbutt is out

I’d possibly go with the same squad that ended that match - however I’d also be very tempted to play Husband at LB with Ballard stepping into the CB role as Charlton will be a bigger threat offensively and despite him scoring I’d switch Ward with Woodburn (if fit and good to go) as Ward doesn’t influence the attacking third enough for me and the one time he did venture into the box he scored. Woodburn will hopefully provide that presence and threat for 90 minutes.
Yates needs to be told to stay more central too.

Worried that our midfield will be up against Marcus Maddison. Hopefully he is not yet up to speed, but he has the ability to pick holes in our midfield and defence

I know we have obvious problems still to resolve, but with confidence a little fragile I'm not sure I'd be making any wholesale changes to a side that totally dominated the last game. If you watched it, you'll have seen that actually it took an excellent move from Crewe to score against us.

I think with all the chopping and changing to the squad, now is the time for the team to settle down a bit, and only gradually introduce new players. I would start Husband at left back with one of the new centre half's in and keep the rest the same. I'd bring on Woodburn on late on to give him some game time against a tiring defence, but that's as far as I'd go for now. Part of our problem when going forward is that the players aren't on the same wavelength and that's only going to be remedied by making sure new player are introduced gradually. Not by chucking in players who've barely had chance to say hello to their teammates.

Another balanced post , I would tend to agree with what your saying, to many changes would probably put a fly in the ointment so to speak !

Sounds a bit like Gretarsson and Dougall won't be ready but Woodburn and Ballard will.
The problem replacing Hubby with Ballard is that we won't have a leftie CB.
Ballard in with Husband moving to left back. Woodburn in for Yates to give us a sharper presence up front. I don't know much about Charlton and how they line up so stick with Madine for now but Sarkic should be given a chance at some point.

I'll be stunned if the team that starts isnt the one that finished on Saturday.

Kaikai and Woodburn to come in on the bench and give real decent attacking options if required.

A change of tactics rather than players for me, teams have sussed out CJ Hamilton and always had 2 men upon him I would pl;ay him closer to Madine as a second striker.
If this is the case it’s high time we overcame that problem as surely there a gap somewhere else on the pitch. If teams want to double up on CJ then let’s exploit there space.

Woodburn has been playing u23 games so should be fit enough for part of a game at least.
Ward's spot is probably safe for now after his improved performance and goal, so unless Woodburn replaces Yates on the left I think he'll be on the bench.
Did Critch say Anderson will miss a few games? Sometimes it is little querks like a certain player being injured that forces a change and improvements then happen.

Well as I was saying for saturday, I think we need a centre half in and if Garbutt is injured that gives an opportunity to do that with Husband going back to his best position.
The substitutions made in the game surely depends on how the game is going!

Probably see Ballard I think tomorrow. Husband to left back.

My team would be
Maxwell
Turton
Marv
Ballard
Husband
William's
Woodburn
Robson
CJ
Madine
Kaikai

We are dominating possession against alot of teams, but where we are struggling is creating chances, for this reason I have put Woodburn straight in.

I'd really like Critchley to stop messing about with the midfield. Robson and Ward were the wrong way around in midfield the entire game and it made play slow and lethargic at times. Just common sense and a bit messy to be honerst.

Sorry but I disagree about Turton. Yes he is a better player under Critchley, but he has been culpable for a few of the goals conceded. He rarely tackles, just backs off and backs off. We need a better right back.

Thinking about it, there could be a high chance Woodburn goes straight in to the starting XI tomorrow.

Critch obviously knows we are struggling to create chances, never mind finish them, so he may be willing to take a chance on someone he has worked with previously who also is well versed in the version of 433 that we are trying to implement.

If he has been playing in Liverpool's u23 games and been part of the Wales set up, you'd hope he would be fit enough to play.

We look more assured at the back with turton playing RB. We shipped 4 against Ipswich when he wasn’t in that position
If Turton had played against Edwards then who is to say he would have done any better than Gabriel did. Edwards is a quality player and wont be in this division for long. Turton got absolutely left behind by HIS man for Crewe's goal on Saturday although he wasnt the only one at fault for that goal.

Maybe drop one of Yates or CJ to the bench. Change things up. Use the benched player as a sub. Ward's goal will probably save his skin, Woodburn likely to have replaced him otherwise perhaps. I'm torn between Ballard and Husband in the centre tomorrow night. I wouldn't drop Marv, and Ballard is a right sided player. Hmm. Critchley can decide.

Im with you Ghosts but we will be in a minority as Gabriel will be the latest scapegoat because he got roasted by a brilliant player
It is strange, in between the accy and Ipswich game he was one of the answers to all our problems.

Then as you say he will not play against that quality again this season as he encountered against Ipswich, I don't think his name has been mentioned once on the thread because of that.

One for the kids, but united had a player called Gary pallister. On his league debut he gave away a penalty and did a shite pass back and both his mistakes led to a 2 0 defeat. He ended up arguably being one of united best ever defenders.

Moral of the story - give players more than one game before crucifying them.

Keshi gave it away (maybe a foul) a run and shot from their central midfielder that shouldn't have beaten the keeper

Not really Turtons fault that one , he came out to close the player down
He backed off and backed off and let the boy get his shot away, depends which way you look at it. Either way he was definitely culpable as a centre half in that position.

I don't think Dougell has had a pre-season, so may be a few weeks away. I would put Husband at LB and put one of the new CBs in. I think Woodburn will be on the bench, although I would start him instead of Ward or Yates

Unfair to judge Turton on one game on the left side of central defence, surely. And really on one piece of defending.
