What were the board thinking

When they interviewed Critchley?

He must have been really great at the interview, telling them that he has the best coaching qualifications and that he will get us playing like Liverpool with a 433 high press attacking style

Even Mansford bought into it with his "Blackpool way" comment

Bit weird given we had approached several experienced managers before we fell onto this plan

Should never have appointed someone who hadn't managed at this level, been sold a duffer

All fur coat and no knickers

Said it at the time, i didn't want someone to use my club as work experience

Have we ever had a manager with a worse record think its about 6% win ratio now

With the decimation of the previous squad he's bought himself some time, problem being we dont look like scoring and look like conceding

And thats bad for a football team

You have to question his signings and the lack of experience and leadership in the squad and in the dugout

Still probably 3 players short after having months of being able to sign players and work with them

We're stuck with him ...

I thought it was better tonite but it’s still plainly obvious that we are getting out thought in every area of the pitch by better players.

there were some positive performances tonite but it’s worrying that we don’t really look like winning or dominating a game even for a 10 minute period.

I think SS is too heavily invested into Critchley to cut him out. The bloke needs help like Tony parkes was to Grayson.

I think we are a long way off turning this team into a promotion chasing one.

He surely needs to think about changing the formation for Saturday? The players that we've signed would seem to suit 3 centre backs, 2 wing backs, 3 midfielders and 2 strikers. 4-3-3 isn't working at all. We have no goal threat and we are susceptible to a high ball over the back. At least changing the formation might make thsi a bit better?

I’ve just posted a thread with my thoughts but I’ve just been done in reading Critchley say Ballard “played like a man”...

Jesus fuckin Christ.

Who says he signed these players?

We might as well stick Madine and Ekpiteta up front and go full on early 1990's Dave Bassett stylee and LUMP it up to the big lads bypassing midfield.

Joking aside we'd score more goals and be more effective.

For me, as I was writing this game up, the bit I got most angry about was doing nothing in the last ten minutes. Nothing. We're losing, at home, we've barely had a shot, we go a goal down and you just leave it, the same.

Why not stick Marvin up front, or Ballard, or something. Anything.

You can see he can coach in the way we play. But that's very, very different from giving the game plan and instructions and yes, I'd say I was concerned as we just do the same thing, over and over and over. Get it wrong, pick the wrong team, fine, but react!

It's got time to click, there are some decent players out and there's a chance it will all fall into place but I dunno.

Roll on Saturday. We've got to just chuck the kitchen sink at MK Dons. There's no belief in that team atm.

The kitchen sink wont get closer than 40yds from goal. There's nobody to carry it further forward.

I don't think lack of effort is the issue, it's like of guile.
Still too early to give up on Critch.
I still don't think he's played his "first" 11 yet so let's see what they have to offer before we give in to the "told you so" brigade.
He doesn't know his first 11

The set pieces are a big worry for me, too (attacking and defending). To me, that's just a basic of football. What's the point in having a bloke with the highest coaching qualification on the training ground if we can't even get the basics right?

In hindsight the appointment doesn't look too good as he's never coached at a level higher than the academy level and at this level it's so difficult to play the way we want to without experience.

He's been 100% backed and been able to bring in multiple quality League 1 players.

The blame right now rests purely on his desk.

I've been one of the first people to defend him, stating that he needs time, but its a results business and if we keep this up, relegation would absolutely be more costly than sacking him and appointing another manager.

If it does come to that and I was Simon Sadler, I would push the boat out to Dan Cowley, because he's the only jobless manager who would play the way Sadler wants us to play and has the experience in order to get the results and performances immediately.

It's been dog shit so far

At the moment we're a relegation outfit under a clueless coach every bit as bad as anyone we've ever had in charge. Sadler should sack Mansford, Johnson and Critchley for gross incompetence.

Yeah, I agree, but I worry the first 11 still doesn't have goals in it. I honestly think it's up to Sullay to spark this season to life. Which, (and I don't want to say this) is basically where we were with Larry. Sullay gets crocked, season goes down the pan.

Honestly, right now, I'd vote for Turton as player of the season. That's not really where I thought we'd be. IT's a sign to me that we're not entirely sure of exactly what we're doing. Are we playing all out attacking football or are we hedging our bets on the steady midtable rightback. If we're doing the latter, why are we starting Demi Mitchell not Husband at left back? If we're doing the former why aren't we also playing Gabriel and getting into them?

We've got to give him time and I'm sure I'll be optimistic again come friday afternoon. Plenty of players to come in but I do share Phil's view that too many went out and I also don't like the way Shaw and Antwi are basically disappeared and Thorniley and Howe both had cracking games in their last LDV matches and have similarly been disappeared ever since.

He's not been lucky with injuries. I don't want to stick the boot in and I really hope in 15 games time, we're hitting form and looking really good. Just seems to be a real pattern in the problem and the problem is (for me) we don't threaten the other teams goal...

I can't remember ever seeing a Blackpool team have fewer shots on target.

Not once this season have I thought we are going to score

That's a worry, we don't have long spells of dominance around the oppositions box

Its all too deep

Don't think Madine works with inverted wide men either he needs every ball into the box

As a team we’ve really struggled to adapt to this behind closed door culture. In years gone by if we were 1-0 nil down at home in the final ten minutes the fans would be able to drum a bit of momentum into the players and without this it’s just all a bit flat. I’ve always been willing to give Critch 10 games but he’s not giving himself any headway and unless things change he could be gone not too soon after.

Nothing to do with fans

Same for every club

Critchley needs to start writing out some tactics that actually work on that pristine whiteboard he stands infront of every week.

Before Saturday I thought he’d be given until Christmas, now I think he’ll be lucky to survive until the end of November. Unless we win at least two of the next three games, I think he’ll be gone.

Any suggestions for a replacement?

Is it a be careful what you wish for scenario? Not too long ago lots of pool fans had the noose out for Grayson and low and behold he was hung out to dry. You got what you wanted, now after 7 games lots are calling for NC to be hung. What will be the verdict if SS acts and brings in someone else you don’t like that plays hoof ball again and we still finish in the relegation spots. Will we turn on SS then. Sooner or later you have to hang your hat on a manager and trust him for more than a few games. There’s no point starting again IMO.

If he's to stay, it can't carry on as it is. At the very least, an experienced right-hand man ala Steve Thompson needs bringing in. Critchley looks like he's sinking.

The football was absolute shite though.

I'm sure Critch is an intelligent man. He will know what is going wrong.
What he needs to learn is how to fix it.

The problem is nearly everything iscgoing wrong. And fixing nearly everything with the form we are in is some tall order. You could also see that player heads have dropped so belief trust and confidence in Coach Critchley will also have dropped.

Unless we go back to basics for a couple of games 532 or 442 which we won’t as Critch won’t be brave enough and is too wedded to his system and method, I fear this could be a terminal decline.

No we're not. The fans will not tolerate it and neither will Sadler. The promise was attacking football and a promotion push not relegation to league2.
The fans want tolerate it? What fans?. There’s no one in the ground. Maybe if there was, results would be better at home?. Three straight home defeats isn’t good.

One thing I've noticed is that watching the game at face value you could be forgiven for thinking things just weren't dropping for us and we were getting no luck. But the more you watch the games the more it becomes apparent that we're just doing things really sloppily and we are doing nothing to create our own luck, let alone chances.
I'd be tempted to go to 442 purely because you'd expect the players to be comfortable with it, and try and get back to basics, and should it get us a few results, try and evolve from there.
Sticking with this system, which is currently likely to concede at least one goal a game whilst not remotely looking like scoring is madness.

I'm not giving Critchley a certain amount of games to get this right because I have no say in the matter and will continue to want him and the team to win games regardless, but make no mistake about it, if this continues, he will be given the boot sooner or later.

The main issue ( other than the defensive slips ) is that we pose no attacking threat whatsoever

I can't recall one shot on target last night Can anyone else ?

When you don't score goals defensive slip ups obviously carry a far greater significance

5000 season ticket holders for a start / those watching on I-Follow. Are we not fans?!
It's the same for every team and Pool are the worst in league1.
