The dinosaur resigns over his language at the DCMS
We have to be very careful, not how it should be in my opinionDescribed being gay as a lifestyle choice, and implied Asians work harder. Oh, and his recollection of the Bury debacle seemed to vary from others (I'm being careful)
Referred to black and ethnic players as coloured
I find everything offensive apart from snowflakes, which are lovely.I find the term dinosaur offensive.
No commentdo I sense a touch of icantbelieveheresignedforsayingthis
or do you agree that it’s right for him to resign
Its snerrrflakes where you come fromI find everything offensive apart from snowflakes, which are lovely.
I find the term dinosaur offensive.
Because America has different terminology than we do in our diversity legislation. Two countries divided by a common languageI don't quite understand why it is offensive to call black players coloured but it is acceptable to call Vice President Elect Harris a woman of colour. I would have thought that if the word wasn't used to convey a malicious message then they could let that one go as an age thing.
I suppose the other stuff he said is the bigger issue, again it is probably an age thing rather than the bloke being a narrow minded bigot.
I think he's just basically a very ignorant man but he's not alone, indeed its the basis of my fallouts with the Football Supporters Association who have refused to take action against something similar with me.Surely as the leader (guffaw) of a high profile body, he should be aware of what is and isn't acceptable currently. And to say it in the full gaze of a Parliamentary committee ?? To me, long before he resigned, it smacked of arrogance and contempt.
Surely we need the best people irrespective of colour or race otherwise its discrimination to mention white males? We need younger people who are not by default white males in these jobs.
Posted by an old white male.
Easy to see why it gets confusing for certain people, must be really difficult if you work over there and over here!Because America has different terminology than we do in our diversity legislation. Two countries divided by a common language
I misread the Sky headline as GC Resigns the FA and got well excited.
Where will he surface now I wonder?
Mmmmmm.....Head Diplomat at the new European Premier League?
Just Pathetic.Referred to black and ethnic players as coloured
Just Pathetic.
Your a clever lad Bazbob (went to uni I heard) but you know well I wasn’t referring to him but nice try. That's one word for him.
I'll give him credit, it's a creative way of jumping before you're pushed. And looking on the bright side, if the big clubs are trying to strangle the life out of the game at least one of the co-conspirators is now off the scene.
What the game needs now is principled leadership. We got Greg Clark.
Well unless they change the meaning of the word to be derogatory against black people I assume that words safe.Fucks sake, they'll be banning 'gammon' next.
At least Junior got the nuance.Fucks sake, they'll be banning 'gammon' next.
Do you not think intent is relevant?Wasn’t that long ago ‘half-caste’ was acceptable, language changes and adapts as society does, unfortunately some people do not.
Our current Prime Minister used the phrase 'piccaninny children with watermelon smiles'. Inappropriate language regardless of intent?Do you not think intent is relevant?
I d thought exactly that. A person of colour.. Fine. A coloured person. Not fine.I don't quite understand why it is offensive to call black players coloured but it is acceptable to call Vice President Elect Harris a woman of colour. I would have thought that if the word wasn't used to convey a malicious message then they could let that one go as an age thing.
I suppose the other stuff he said is the bigger issue, again it is probably an age thing rather than the bloke being a narrow minded bigot.
Yeah probably inappropriate although I’m not sure how offensive them remarks are on a scale of one to ten.Our current Prime Minister used the phrase 'piccaninny children with watermelon smiles'. Inappropriate language regardless of intent?
In his position, you have to set an example. Even so, he apologised straight away when it was brought to his attention. Think there are other reasons over and above this as to why the FA were keen to accept it.The world's gone mad.
The fella was actually trying to speak out against racism and then ends up having to resign because of it??.
It's nuts!
That’s exactly right. When I was growing up the word “coloured” was in fact considered to be aWasn’t that long ago ‘half-caste’ was acceptable, language changes and adapts as society does, unfortunately some people do not.
Talk sport would argue black was white to get a reaction (and that was chosen deliberately). It's what they do.Sports journalist gets shot down supporting the resignation, here.
