Fans back in stadiums

"A maximum of 4,000 fans are to be allowed at outdoor events in the lowest-risk areas when the national lockdown in England ends on 2 December, BBC Sport understands.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson is expected to make an announcement this afternoon on the return of crowds.

There will be no crowds allowed at sport in the highest-risk areas under the new Covid-19 restrictions for England from 2 December. "

Does it say if the 4000 limit is effected by stadium size? 4000 at Old Trafford would be far more spaced out than 4000 at Bloomfield, not sure if we will be allowed the full 4000?

Would we be able to go to away games if/when we play somewhere with tier 1 restrictions?

I think a lot of it is down to travel more than capacity of ground with fans congregating outside etc for small numbers.

If we are bundled in with Lancashire then we’ll be in T3 thanks to the high rates in Blackburn.

Boris has confirmed regional and not by borough restrictions, so don’t hold your breath!

It’s 4K or 50% whichever is the lower I think. 2k if you’re in tier 2. Given that it wouldn’t make sense to allow away fans unless they were from the same tier. This would then give some clubs a massive home crowd advantage

More confusion to follow - the assumption is that home fans don’t travel to / from different Tier areas. For example, you will have thousands from Tier 3 areas travelling to watch their team in a Tier 1 area and vice versa. It will happen, leading to unfairness and the possibility of further transmission, where people travel into lower Tier areas.

Not an easy one, but a blanket approach of 4000 would have been best, with appropriate measures in and around stadia.

Away fans should definitely be banned until we are through this.

Can someone please explain to me why the North West has such a high infection rate when compared to the rest of England please?

GJW that's not right
We are reducing the most but we are still high
Im just going off that link pal and was referring to the r rate. I guess you could argue about current infection numbers, growth rate etc, to suit your argument. It depends what you look at.

The picture in the NW is markedly improving and in Blackpool the rate is down to around 280 per 100k. Virtually identical to where I am.

Without the tourists, and if everyone follows the rules, I can’t see the rate in Blackpool heading north in any significant way. Maybe Tier 2, because you can’t continue to lump together the whole of Lancashire.

It is not just the level of infections and the R rate, but also the position of cases in hospitals and hospital admissions and their staffing levels. If the hospitals are under pressure they will not reduce the Tier classification

North West figures are currently best in England:
I bet it doesn't save us though when it comes to handing out the tier status.
To be honest though, here on Wirral you wouldn't know there was the problem the way people wander round all over the pavement and in the shops. I really still don't think people get it. That, or they don't give a shite. 😗

BBC news just now, Swale worst covid rates in the country. 96.1% white ethnicity. Beavis and Butthead, above, will struggle with that one

Boris said most of us will be in a higher tier than pre lockdown, so can’t see us coming down from tier 3.
Its a farce, focus on the areas that are not listening, ignoring the law and spreading the virus. Reward the areas that have got the r rate down and allow them to get business open again as they have proved they can do so safely

My concern is small numbers allowed (most will already have paid for a season ticket) doubt any food or drink sales will be allowed, then add cost of stewards , may add a limited atmosphere but could end up costing the club even more money

It's a good question TT but I'd guess each Tier 1 club will only sell tickets to ST holders and then only to those with a registered address in the area to reduce the risk
