This is not football ....

Sorry, today has pushed me in to thinking we should just abandon this season and reconvene in August. How can any competition have integrity when we have to play a bench full of kids in the world's most prestigious tournament. Will look out for our result today but think that's me checking out until August.

Wonder if you'll have a change of heart if they scrape past Brighton today and win their next 4 matches in the league?

I'll have to be pedantic here and say that its not the worlds most prestigious tournament anymore, Champions League probably takes that title.

It's how I get myself to sleep at night, knowing that Wigan's singular FA Cup win in the 2010s is not comparable to our FA Cup win in 1953 when it was the be all and end all of English football.

Enjoy the summer

Radio Lancashire coming up with gold today. Garbutt has just put his wand of a left foot into the mixer where the Brighton defenders are Land of the Giants.
Beyond the grave, Ted Hughes is looking down with envious eyes. The Thought Fox has nowt on that!

I won't give up on the season but I do think the points the o/p makes are valid.

I posted a thread in the week that this division is becoming a bit of a farce now.

Burton have called off their Tuesday game due to Covid, we play them next weekend so there must a chance that will off as well now.

As much as having football on TV is a bit of a break from the grind I personally think the game needs to pause for a few weeks if it is going to keep any semblance of legitimacy to the league tables. And that before we start on any health considerations for players, staff and their families.

Matt Strafton saying burton self isolating for 10 days and tues called off, so can't see how sat will go ahead :( said it for a while but really is becoming farcical... having said that no idea what solution is. Roll on to when we are back to normal days... or at least a bit of normality

Most are missing my point - football is so much more than what we’re experiencing at the moment - to be it’s football but not football.

Fully agree.

That reason it's still going and is 7 days a week is so Sky/BT/Amazon can pump the most value from their contracts and the reason it's still going is cos the betting industry would shit a brick if it stopped and football is hand in glove with it. The data industry has so much invested in football and betting too. Football needs the TV contracts.

Sadly that's why it's still going. It's not a romantic gesture on behalf of the nation. It's cos they're financially screwed as the model is based on those incomes if it stops.

I dunno. I look forward to the games as much as anyone, but there comes a point with the amount of cases where you wonder if it's the right thing to do. Ok, the players get paid a lot and there's testing and procedures, but we've seen with Steve Cotterill one example of problems. Players go home to families. Families who might have vulnerabilities and so on and so forth. Their wages are really not the point in all this.

I really don't know. I'd be bereft without it as I'm really struggling with the boredom of it all atm and Madine's goal today had me off my feet and screaming but I'm not sure I want to see the players dancing for my entertainment right now either.

I'm not that bothered about the integrity of the league or cup. It's just a game and money always fucks that over anyway, but I am concerned at the number of players going down week in, week out and the potential impact of that, whether directly or indirectly.

I think I posted the other day 'just use the kids and get on with it'

I still think that is what we should do instead of trying to seek to faff about. If the leagues going on, play. See who takes their chance and all that. But the bigger question is, should the leagues be going on and on that question, I'm starting to doubt it.

I think we had an 'opportunity' (as every other team did this season) and because of the mess at the end of last season, what Larry inherited and actually some poor choices or players coming in (or who were available), we didn't grasp that opportunity.

The Covid absentees could affect any side and so am not using that as an excuse but I think this season has been the same for everyone - we just haven't grasped the nettle hard enough.

Televised football is continuing because the Government considers it to be the modern “opiate of the masses”, having replaced religion.

Must confess I still bought iFollow last night and enjoyed it - but still felt empty going to bed without coming home with frost bite, a dodgy tummy from beers and pies and a car full of my mates buzzing all the way back to the Fylde Coast!

It makes more sense to scrap the Euros, doesn't it? This multiple venue idea was barmy in the first place. If you don't hold that, you have scope to extend the League season. I'm sure genuine fans of proper football will support this.

Agree that multiple venue idea was a poor one.
