Kevin Stewart signs 18 month deal

He was moaning he didn't want to play in league one last summer and then got released to nowhere

Very surprised at this. In fact it’s bizarre.

How many Central midfielders does that make in the squad? 6? 7? Maybe even 8 if you consider Kai Kai to be playing there.

Just bizarre.

I'll be honest, I don't get it either. Surely Dougall has that role in the team sewn up, in his absence we have Robson, Williams & even Virtue.

Everyone on here who is familiar with my posts will know I try and give the club the benefit of the doubt and look to the positives whenever possible, but in all fairness, if he has been without a club since the end of last season, realistically, how good can he be?
How long is it gonna take him to get up to speed fitness and system wise?

I just don't get it.

Yeh I completely agree.

I don’t want to write him off he could be really good for us. Who knows.

But like you say this is exacerbating an already misjudged squad.

Very odd.

Bit of an odd one signing another defensive midfielder when all we seem to have is defensive midfielders and no goals/creativity from the midfield.

I'll judge our business at the end of the window but at the minute it's hard to not admit its a weird one.

Does he score goals? That would be nice 👍
I doubt it. He is described as an energetic, defensive midfielder. I thought we were well served in central midfield. I would have hoped he was a flying winger or even a centre half to cover for limited numbers!

Maybe this player in the side will allow Kenny to concentrate on his creative game, which we all know he has !

It raises so many more questions than it provides answers.
Is he a bit of a big time Charlie who ran his contract down at Hull (that article posted by BHOK states he was one of the higher earners there) thinking he would get a load of big money offers...... Yet when the phone stopped ringing and squads were filled up he was left unemployed.

I'm certainly not writing him off, it does sound like he was one of their better players in the Championship, but I will be amazed if this works out as opposed to him being moved on in the summer after a few cameo sub appearances.
It sounds like another Williams type signing.

Maybe. I don't see him as being *that* creative player though. I could be wrong. We're certainly miles better with him and his ability to pick a pass and play long and short is way ahead of anyone else but I don't know if I can see him racking up 10 or 12 assists.

Maybe this is part of a jigsaw...

I'd be intrigued if we get CJ back and some one who can be CJ on the left as well as a further signing, then the idea of a very solid competent midfield makes more sense. You don't need an out and out play maker if you've got ball winners who are good enough creatively to get the ball to either flank in that case.

Dougall doesn't have a creative game. What he's been doing is what he is.

This will be an opportunity that's come up to sign a player for a cheaper price than would normally have been possible even though there's other players in the squad in that role already, same as Garbutt.
