Oh Me of little faith.

Well have been pretty vocal about our lack of attacking prowess. Think my last post was something along the lines of how we just don't look like scoring when attacking and we never going to score more than once.
Well it's fantastic to have to publicly apologise for my stupidity and lack of faith in the management and players. What better way than to have my words well and truly ramed down my big mouth. Brilliant, same again Saturday please.

Mr. Critchley, all the backroom staff and players sorry to have doubted you and moaned about your attacking football and set pieces. Please except for my humble apologies and my lack of footballing knowledge.

I think we had a little bit of luck with the first two goals, and often that's what we've been missing in a game. A lucky scrappy goal.

Those two back to back decimated a young Wigan sides confidence, and allowed us to run riot over them in the 2nd half. Will do wonders for the lads confidence, same again on Saturday please!

As good as last night was, and showed improvement on the reverse fixture, I’m not sure a win over a young demoralised team put out by the basket case of the league should be treated as the remedy to our attacking woes.

Sure it will give the lads a boost, but last night was akin to playing a non league side, and we’ve already proven we can put a hat full past them.

We need to consistently score 2,3 and 4 goals in league action before I’d start considering us over our impotency.

Wigan are also 2nd bottom of the league with the second worst goals for record in the league, you can pick and choose stats, but we all know that Wigan will be relegated in abysmal fashion.

It’ll be the same this weekend, if the Burton game goes ahead, who have some how contrived to be even worse than Wigan.

I’d settle for 2 goals a match. That would have cost us 2 points against Hull at home, but aside from Husband’s faux pas against Lincoln, I don’t think that we would have lost another game. Perhaps a keen Anorak might calculate how many points we would have right now had we scored 2 goals per game ?

Seems like we’ve got a lot of confidence players in this team. A 5-0 away win should be like a rocket up the arse.

Just did the sims; Pool would have 54 pts now if they had scored 2 goals per game. Defeats at home to Lincoln and Ipswich eould still stand, but only Doncaster would have beaten us away.
Fine margins !
Perhaps if they can score 2 goals per game from now on, they’ll gain automatic.

Spot on. As pleasing as last night's performance and result was it will mean little if we don't follow it up and go on a run. Here's hoping.

We had the second worst going into the game. Only Northampton was lower.

I was bending my stats a bit there, what I should have said was there only victory in 5 came against the only team below them.

Just not seeing that victory last night as the corner turned.

I think it says more about the state of this league, as I say I think ultimately Wigan will be relegated in abysmal fashion come the end of the season.

It might be. Its a marker in terms of attitude/intent. Everyone had a right good go. Even Robson shot wide once!

Who knows. I don't really want to get into "what does this all mean!" but it had to be said, it was nice putting a weaker side to the sword and I think, showing some of the stuff you need to do ok in *this* league.

We're always banging on about summer, next year, targets, ins/outs etc but at least we know now that *these players* can hammer Wigan. Ok, it's only Wigan, but it's better than 0-0 at imo a worse Bolton last year

I also think Critch deserves praise for how well a bunch of players some of whom could very well have had the hump with him did. That's actually pretty important.

That'll do for me atm!

Yes I agree it’s an upturn like I say from the reverse fixture even. As that was turgid.

I’m not really putting that much thought into last night, it’s something to beat someone 5 nil but due to the standard of opposition it doesn’t mean much to me, just find it odd that some people think this is the start of the perfect 10 with some of their posts. Just can’t see it personally that’s all.

Funny you mention Robson, I thought he was the only one to come out of last without any credit. When he dithered on the ball and got complete out muscled, I think was the death knell for him last night and possibly his future here.

I didn't feel like it was a 5-0 performance late goals at the end of either half made it very flattering.
Yes we deserved to win but I won't be getting over giddy yet.

I've named everyone in the conclusion of my blog except him I think. I think me saying 'even Robson' says a lot.

We'll see. I feel as if he needs a run of reserve games or something like that. He just doesn't seem to know who he is and I don't fancy giving him the first team action to find out.

Obviously, there are no reserve games... I think if he could just get two or three games under his belt where he played well, pulled a few strings etc, he might be a lot better for it but he's really not doing it. He's totally retreated into himself. He's not getting his head up, he's not hitting longer passes, he's not running or playing a trick. He's shown all that at one point or another but he just looks like a below par scratter at the moment who tackles a bit and passes short. He's neither dominant nor creative atm.

Again, Matty V made more crap passes and probably got tackled more but he gives off a totally different vibe. Robson looks shy. Virtue is in their face. Trying stuff, even if it's sometimes crap.

I could imagine Virtue as a well liked home grown midfielder from the billy ayre era. That's a compliment to his attitude. Robson, I dunno. I worry he's just gonna be forgotten by next year.

You’ve summed it up well there, I think ultimately he’s suffering from our overload on midfield, as a number of them are really.

I want him to succeed, as I do for every BFC player but we can’t all wait for him to just get his mojo back he needs to find it. It’s a tough world the pro footballer lives in, as you say Matty V embodies the effort and desire the fans want to see, which hides some of his negatives. Which are actually becoming a bit more obvious now worryingly. I think I may have over rated him.

Nah, he's always been the same for me. I've never thought 'wow, he's good' - just that I like him and he has some strengths.

He's a bit of a Southern. His contribution isn't always pretty but it impacts. How many of our midfielders have come off with a goal and an assist from the same game this year?

Not many. He did last night and he was out of position.

I am not for a second saying Virtue is the player of the decade or something, that we need to build a team round him. No, not at all. He's just a proper honest pro, a useful league one squad player and I'm bored of the endless living in next year and virtual managing now.

My take is that people see players increasingly as stats, attributes, like fifa sprites and the quality of attitude is overlooked.

You need some Virtues amongst the squad. Sort of like how in a wall the bricks are the star but the cement matters but no one looks at a nice building and goes, wow, lovely cement. They notice the dressed stone or glazed brick but without the humble cement...

I'm slowly accepting Sullay might not be Pele. I'm not giving up on Matty V!

Hell fire Rekt, damned if you do damned if you don't.

Not scoring enough goals, the team need to step it up.
Score 5 in a match, well its ONLY Wigan!!

Let's hope it fills them with enough confidence to kick on from here👍🏻

Well the proof will be at the end of the season won’t it, let’s see if we can do that or anything approaching it to any other team?
If it’s a one off I’ll be right, if we go on to score 3,4 and 5 goals against a few teams I’ll have been very much mistaken.

With Robson, now I think about, he hasn’t shown me anything this season, it sounds like a knock on him but it’s not intended that way. I mean he’s just had little fits and starts on the pitch. But I think you’re right that he’s lost a lot of confidence recently.

Who knows there could be an outstanding player in Robson. We just don’t know, it’s the main know I have on the coaching staff this season. There’s so many players all over the place we just do not know what assets we’ve got.

Regarding MVT ( do you think that would catch on btw?) I’m not sure you know I think most of his admirers are admirers because of his endeavour and his sheer bloody mindedness to get around the pitch.

I think the Southern comp is spot on, not winning you the league, but with out him the team will struggle to go that extra 10% to get a playoff place or similar.

Sully again falls into the Robson category, I still don’t think we really know what we’ve got in him. A really shit comp from me is when England tossed Scholes out to left midfield for a few years.
I’m continually saying we need a central midfield attacking threat to link the midfield possession to the potential potency the strikers have. I have half a mind KaiKai’s that man.

Unfortunately I don’t think they’ll be a seat for him when the music stops.

Yeah, I can't disagree and usually we manage to sustain a conversation by me ever so slightly disagreeing in a long winded way but mostly agreeing, so this is a nice succinct change! I admire MVT (yes, it's good!) for endeavour, but also his sense of timing and desire to get in the box and/or have dig. He's actually very good at that whereas most of our midfield aren't especially. Everything else, it's effort and endeavour really.

To be honest debating BFC with people on here has kept me slightly sane this past year, as mad as that sounds. So I’m all for long winded.

I’m going to drip feed MVT™ into the every day life of AVFTT and see what happens.

I think I forget that he’s only just coming off a year out and will need the rest of the season to get at it again really.

I do like him though, he sums up Blackpool in a way. Rough around the edges but has an endearing grit and charm and can give you a rocket once in a while.

I'm thrilled that Critchball is a thing. Well, by 'a thing' I mean that someone other than me used it once.

Oh did you start that!? I’ve got to say I’ve used it once or twice.

outstanding, and what’s even better, you aren’t appreciate in your own time, that only means one thing. Immortality awaits.

Also yes to sanity. I'm clinging on largely thanks to chatting shite with people most of whom I don't know about players I've only seen on TV in the main.

Weird world innit!

I think i did. Who knows?

We could do an evidence trawl using search I guess!

Mind you, I also think I made us go to 442 when I wrote an imaginary interview with Critch asking him why he played a formation that didn't work all the time so I'd take my claims of influence with a pinch of salt.

That was very funny.

Stranger things have, most definitely, happened. So I wouldn’t count your influence out.

My first use of Critchball was on May 10th: "David Dunn then proved a surprisingly adept caretaker manager (who knew?!) and we caught a brief glimpse of Critchball (as I'll never be calling it again.)" (season review)

It didn't appear on this forum until July the 1st and has since been used a whopping 19 times in various posts.

So in conclusion, I probably am also the Blackpool manager.

As I'm quoting my own blog as evidence that I am an cultural influencer in a ridiculously niche corner of the internet, I really feel I should go to bed. Lets be honest. Critchball is no 'factamundo' is it?

Weird reading that old blog. I couldn't decide if the Goal Machine was good or shit. How times change. GO TO BED YOU MORON. NO ONE CARES! (that's to me)

G'night all!

Again I think it’ll be appreciated after the fact. When ever Critch departs from us and everyone reminisces about the football we played, they’ll forever whisper your immortal words.

Isn’t the new AVFTT wonderful, definitive proof of ownership.

Fair play mate.

I think it's fair to say we all have a rant and rave at times - nowt wrong with it (unless you are one of the AFVTT glitterati "Everything is fine and NOTHING must ever be criticised" superfan group which 99% of us aren't.).

You are going from one extreme to the other now. Only time will show if our attack issues are resolved - one swallow does not a summer make!
