Seeing as we are linked with him, did anyone rate him from last nights performance?
looked like he put a shift in, should have done better with that free header but overall nothing better than we currently have.
thoughts ?

Agreed hard to come to a judgment after one bad game, for him and his team.

It’s funny but all I saw last night was a player very similar to Nathan Shaw, physically and in his attacking style.

Obviously too soon to tell but seemed very similar to what I saw of him in pre season.

Having seen him for the first time apart from the odd clip, I'm not sure he'd add anything. Think weve got a better option in Simms, albeit short term.

Thought he'd have to come off with the ankle injury so did well to get through it. Felt like Maxwell had the spaces behind the defenders well covered last night to stop him getting through. Only things I can remember was the free header first half that went over, and then that big chance at 0-2 at the start of the second half, that could have put us in Doncaster away territory again, but thankfully curled it the wrong way.

In the home game I know I thought he'd scored right at the end of the first half when he turned Ekpiteta in the box and hit the side netting. And Maxwell had to stop him second half after he did the same again after picking up a loose deflection off Gretarsson. Think that was his first league start.

He's not a dud and can see why our lot made enquiries given the HOFO's last job before here.

Any 6ft+ 19yo who looks developed enough to cope with the physicality of the league and has a trick about them is going to be scouted for a possible bargain punt on their future, particularly someone at a crisis club coming out of contract soon. Scored three in an away game last month before the window opened so it's going to alert interest. Celtic are the name linked today.

Shows the dire situation at Wigan that they kept him on after he picked up a knock, a 19 year old is their star man that they can't afford to substitute.

I felt he did well actually, he was involved in everything that came at us. Any time they were on the attack it seemed the commentators were saying his name in the first half. He should have done miles better with that chance he had in the 2nd half though.

Barnsley have apparently had an offer of £400k rejected
Out of our reach then of that’s true, we’ve already got similar players on our books anyway that need development but are struggling to get in the side.

This guy could end up being very good, but we’ve already spend money on players in this area, not a gamble worth taking for us at the minute.

If you bring in you'll have to ditch the tangerine kit. He prefers a multi coloured option.

Like I've said before. We need to try out our 19yr olds to see if they can step up as well as Kyle Joseph undoubtedly has from a level similar to what our kids have been playing.
It's slightly different with Simms who has been brought up at Academy 1 level and played PL2.

He looked ok.Difficult to assess with his injury. He sold Husband the dummy down the right to get away which I liked

to be honest their left winger Pearce was their best player imo

Simms looked brilliant last night so no rush to bring another striker in like Joseph (seeing as he'd be one for the future).

Bring in another experienced striker if possible, but don't need to push the boat for someone like Joseph in this window.

Glad we were still in someone like him though, shows intent.

Is he any better than Apter, Bange, Holmes?

Not so sure. It’s a chunk of cash for very little experience. Be more than happy to see some of our young pros brought through into regular 1st team action, tbh

Good point. No reason to be forking out a large sum for an 18 year old.

Would much rather spend the money on an older (but still relatively young, 21-24) attacking midfielder.

We have equal potential in our own 17 18 year olds that we currently have, they themselves need to be utilised more, its the way forward

100% agree, getting some of our young players into the 1st team is key, the buzz it would give the other players at that level would be massive. For too long we have failed at bringing our own through, a healthy mixture of our own youth, good loan signings, seasoned L1/Champ players with the odd marquee signing would work. Clearly that is why Critchley has been brought in, not just to win games but to remodel the whole setup.

The painful truth is that neither Shaw/Apter are ready for senior level football. It's ok to blood them in EFL Trophy games or League Cup games but Critchley is not going risk them when 3 points are on the line. 500K for Joseph may sound excessive but it's a high risk/high reward proposition. Peterborough (Barry Fry) have been doing this for years unearthing strikers from other Academies or non-league obscurity and turning them into money making machines. Ivan Toney bought for 650K sold two years later for a fee potentially rising to 10million was the latest one. There's probably been some duds along the way but goal scorers will always command a high premium.

I genuinely dont know how good our youth is ...better judges than me think Joseph will be a future star and the fact he already has goals and indeed a hattrick in this division must count for something. I would love for some of our yoof to come through but if the last 30 years are anything to go by then we may struggle.
