Question time tonight.

I'm blown away and disgusted by some of the people on the show tonight slanging off the vaccine.
I really cant believe the distrust amongst these ignorant people.

I really don't understand why they are given a national platform to peddle misinformation no matter how strongly they believe it.

If the leader of the KKK was propagating the view that certain races were inferior to others genetically, no matter how much they believe it, they wouldn't be on Question Time advocating it.

When the vaccine gives us a way out (and tonight's news that the programme might be complete by June if we can maintain thus rate) then ignorance shouldn't be given a platform. You can argue that the science and rational discourse will prevail, but there's no debate with that level of ignorance. It's got to the point of messaniastic fervour and there is no dissuasion.

I agree. It’s Question Time, not a platform for nutters and their misinformation.

I watched tonight and didn't notice any nutters or anyone slagging off the vaccine. There were a couple of points raised about lack of trust but certainly nothing that warrants any hysterics.
I didn't see QT but if what you say is right then it worries me a little how fanatical some people are for the jabs.
If people have doubts and questions or just dont want the jab then they should be able to voice that, it is then up to the government to give the reasons why they should.
If they are coming out with ridiculous Qanon style conspiracy theories then they should be dealt with quite easily by trusted people delivering honest answers.
If they are concerned by the speed of the roll out or just dont like the idea of being given an annual compulsory injection, then that is harder to deal with, and it should be, people should have a choice about what happens to their bodies.

The vaccine fanaticism is a worry. When the news is plastered with stories of the govt still ** about with doses, timings, mix-and-match, you know this thing is far from the finished article. Deaths remain high despite millions being vaccinated yet there is little curiosity as to why.

Isn’t that partly to do with the vaccine taking time to bring about immunity Tommy ? Plus the lag rate from infection to death 🤔

I don't know lala but there appears to be a ready-made answer for everything. There are that many variables at play. Lag after lockdown, lag after vaccination, my personal favourite - "people behaving like people" - but the underlying assumptions remain untouchable and people get incredibly humpty when they are even looked at. It comes across as very insecure and a little weird (a bit religion-ey).

Unfortunately, it doesn’t work like that.
Once someone has bought into the conspiracy theory, then the ‘experts’ are seen as being ‘in on it’. Any evidence given by main stream experts just becomes further evidence of the conspiracy.

I’m reading a book at the moment called ‘Escaping the Rabbit-hole’ by Mick West. Very interesting, intended for someone who is worried that a friend is getting too far into conspiracy theories.

Two days now since my jab, slightly sore shoulder yesterday, where the vaccine was administered, which is better this morning. The second head is starting to grow so should be able to talk to myself soon, although often do these days when the wife isn't listening.

I stopped watching question time a while ago, shortly after the change of chairperson, as it appeared to me it was beginning to become more of an angerfest rather than a serious discussion, and the reports on here more or less back up what my feelings about the programme were and still are.

Very true but I guess it all hinges on how things are framed. I've never seen the scientific advice as separate to the political decisions that derive from it. Therefore any 'evidence' produced by our advisors that results in a net negative political intervention - then that advisor deserves to be lumped in with those that are "in on it" surely?

I might give your book a look. I know a lot of lockdown sceptics like to draw parallels between the book 'When Prophesy Fails' and how the vast majority grasp for reasons why the latest round of interventions hasn't worked as hoped. Guess it's human nature to try and find patterns, answers, similarities, clues as to why things are as they are. Fuck knows there are enough people twatting on with The Matrix references.

I agree. I've no idea what these people are on about tbh. There was massive support for the vaccine and discussion about how to get doubters to change their minds and get vaccinated. Not sure how people have interpreted the QT discussion so differently. Very odd. Maybe there were two different QTs on last night.

Deaths are high because the people dying had not received the vaccine. Deaths will fall in the next month to two months. It's an ongoing battle though because new variants will reduce the effectiveness of the first generation of vaccines.

But the full on anti-vaxxer conspiracy theorists are so small in number that we shouldn't use them as a reason to curtail freedom of thought and speech.

I've not watched it in years..

'We have a question from angry student who's read something online, not made any effort sartorially here despite being on
TV, vanilla mildly patronising Tory minister if you could respond first....'

'Now we have a question about children and that from a young lady clearly having a quiet breakdown over childcare but has at least put a nice blouse on, I'd like to get the first response from hopelessly out of their depth anonymous shadow minister....'

'The next question is from the shouty angry red faced older man in a suit he last wore for that family thing 10 years ago, something about Brexit and immigrants, if ill advised booking mild celebrity trying to read his notes while considering sacking his agent could take that one first please....'

'And tonight's final question is from the one normal person in the audie....oh we've ran out of time for this week, we'll just leave them hanging there looking around nervously...'

Just called Bill Gates and I am shocked when he told me what you had been up to the last 2 days. Didn't know you had it in you.

If you can wait a week or so you’re more than welcome to borrow my copy, if you’re local to B’pool.

I read today that of the first 7 million to be vaccinated 143 have died with a positive test so far. Early days but suggests the vaccines are working well especially given the first 7 million were the most vulnerable of all plus health workers. Anti vaxxers will surely see eventually that the vaccines work and are safe and not linked to mission control or any of that wazzockry.

Not forgetting, in Dimbleby's last couple of years, holding a mid-programme interview with the senior Govt spokesperson on the panel, to the detriment of the audience, the questioner and the other panel members.
