Jerry Yates

Can we please get off his back. He’s a clever player and we have provided zero quality to him.

Watch his goals online, not just his finishing but his movement and positioning. Not a one trick pony either, as he has the ability to score from different positions / situations. Watch also the service he got.

So many moaners, just don’t understand the game. People moaning about Yates, but thinking that Williams is what we need. You couldn’t make it up.

Every player we buy the expectation is ridiculous. If you want good football you need players like Yates. NC needs to get his head up and play Kaikai just behind in a central role, as he’s the only player we’ve got that is capable of playing a clever / defence splitting pass.

We have players that might give 100%, great, but they create absolutely nothing of value. Yates works his socks off and has the ability to be a great striker for us. He needs service and he needs fans behind him.
I know it’s sad dragging up an old post, but this lad will be a fans favourite when we get back.

With the exception of one season in league2, Yates who is 24 in December, has no goalscoring record to speak of. I agree service has been poor but I'm afraid Yates is ordinary, a workhorse rather than a prolific goalscorer.
Well done once again pal.

And one season in league 1

Being a football fan would be boring without opinions, right or wrong.

We’ve got a high quality team to be proud off, and they are improving and gaining confidence. Today they just shrugged off the disappointment of conceding the equaliser. Credit to NC and his coaching team and in a way, it’s probably helped not to have us on his back during the difficult times. Perhaps it’s a lesson that we need to be more patient.

Whatever happens this season, it’s been a success.

At one point only a few weeks ago, the Player of the Season vote was absolutely wide open but I feel that Jerry has well and truly got one hand on that trophy.

Every credit to Yates who I would say is performing much better than anyone thought based on his early season performances. Credit too must go to his team mates who are giving him the service allowing to cause havoc amongst opposition defences. I think it would be fair to say that most on here thought it would be Hamilton who would turn out to be our best investment but Yates has I think surpassed him. It seems odd in a way that our best and most consistent form has been without CJ in the team. That's not to write him off of course because together they could form one helluva partnership.

I'm certainly not itk, but perhaps CJ's absence has forced NC/CC to change the way we play?
I often got the impression that he was plan A and there was no plan B (similar to Feeney last season)
As exciting a player as CJ is, his crossing wasn't the greatest, hence the various comments about the lack of service. Of course, having a colleague within 10 yards of Jerry has helped as well

...and no doubt you were thinking exactly the same at the time about someone who went 10 games without a goal. You're obsession with me is very worrying...I'm spoken for 😂
No, we were thinking ‘he’s really good and just needs some time’. See my earlier responses to your utter bollocks! No obsession, just the short life expectancy of your many outlandish opinions is a constant source of comedy :)

Just actually going through some of these replies it’s worse than I remember. Loads of people listing his goal scoring record and just completely omitting the biggest season of his life. Not as good as Cullen and never will be!!!! Shut the fuck up you’re killing me 😂😂😂😂

Signing the best striker from the team that won the division below you is always a good move. Jerry’s work rate was there from day one but he didn’t have any service and going off these replies, not much support either.

He did himself say in his interview yesterday how poor he had been in his first 10 games for us which at that stage to be fair was all we had to go on barring his very patchy almost goalless previous record in league 1 or above..

He has proved me wrong subsequently but you can see why the doubts were there.Like everyone I`m delighted he has turned things round ,long may it continue.👍

I didn't hear the bit where he said 'I started to think maybe I have no goalscoring record and will never reach Mark Cullen levels of greatness'

Feel rather smug reading my comments back on this thread 👊🏻😄#justified

We could all do the 'first day at alcoholics anonymous' thing:
Hi, I'm 1966_and_all_that and I'm a Critchley doubter .
I've rabidly called for his head on here when we've performed poorly. But look where we are now and I see a squad that's all singing from the same hymn sheet and being well coached. Gerry Yates probably failed to score in those early games because everyone on the pitch was out of sorts. Now we're purring like a well oiled machine and Gerry's scoring his goals. Even the lucky ones go in when things are going well for you.

Have i missed something? Everyone on his back? I really think people are bore shitless and just like to start bollocks on here and take away the feel good factor.

Hey Bray, this was you talking about Critch on Oct 10th

‘Its getting harder to stick with him after watching today’

glass houses, stones and stuff 😂
Yes, but it was harder after that game but I did not bang on about it for the rest of the season despite Critch coming good. There is a real difference in being peed off after a bad game and making a life long habit of banging the same old drum, don't you think?

Liar. At least I have an opinion. Your cowardice is an embarrassment.

...and if you are Honest you will have thought the same at the time. Too cowardly to say or admit it at the time no doubt. Grow a pair!
Except you can go back through that thread and see that some were calling for patience, in effect, and he would come good. You wouldn't have given him that time. If we'd been in the ground you would be booing him.

The main thing that's been there since day one is his work rate, he has now added the goals and with that comes confidence. Just needs to work on his heading now!

It's interesting to see what everyone thought back in October, and a few of these threads have been brought back up recently. In Yates case, I actually think there were some pretty fair posts on this thread with many calling for patience, many citing lack of service and lack of confidence. And those like 62 who questioned his record, well to be fair he didn't really have a record at league one and above to speak of, it was a fact. So I don't think it was unreasonable to show concern about that considering he hadn't scored for us at that point. But it's fine to change your mind as things progress, and I dare say those who questioned/criticised him are delighted he's proved them wrong. I hope those who have changed their mind will try and afford a player (or manager) a bit more time in future to show what they can do, because seven games is nowhere near enough.

I've lost count how many pool players past and present i've labelled not good enough only for them to prove me wrong.it's great when they do.

Sorry mate I don't get what you're on about now. Hope all is well with you mate, it's just a bit of banter and healthy disagreement on my end. As I said, all the best.
Perhaps I overreacted. You will know that I don't sit on the fence and say what I think at the time...sometimes I'm right, sometimes I'm wrong. Yates has proved me wrong, he's recovered from a poor start to have an outstanding season.
All the best to you too and Up the Pool.

Thought I’d revive this one, following the stick Jerry was getting again this season. Hard to believe that such a class striker was written off for the second season running, as not being good enough for the Championship.

Love the guy, his whole attitude. An absolute star that we should cherish.
