Hey did some research but curious of any of your possible experiences

I am buying a tortoise hopefully by the end of next week for me, youngest wanted one for ages

anyone ever had one? Quite looking forward to getting it

animals always seem to like me as long as I remember which is weird, as in they get very attached to me very quick even my freinds and neighbours pets

Lovely creatures and saw a couple in the wild when last in Turkey.

I had 2 at one point, they eat lots of lettuce, leaf stuff in general really. Set up a nice safe space when winter comes for hibernation.

If you’re going to take it for a walk, make sure you set off early.😂

Not the best time of the year to buy one. Should be hibernating.

Weve a hermann tortoise. I've made him (Tim) an enclosure from wood that fits at the end of my lads bed. Just feed him normal greens but he loves dandelions when their available. Also let him out to wander and explore in our enclosed garden during the warmer months. Have lost him for a few days when hes out wandering but always end up finding him somewhere as our garden is enclosed. They do love exploring and brilliant to watch

Have a beautiful enclosure bought its a baby Hermann i have a nice size back garden for the summer 🐢

Don't get it as a pet it offers nothing.
I found Tim the tortoise by the side of my bins one random day approx 3 years ago. Went out to do the recycling and saw a tortoise by my bins! Called my mrs and said do you wanna see something you dont see every day and we ended up with a tortoise!!

Turns out Tim had escaped from a garden, travelled quarter of a mile, crossing a busy road and appeared by my bins as a person was house sitting for a friend (who unfortunately had terminal cancer) and one of her animals was Tim. They kindly let Tim remain with us (I've 3 sons) forever more. He lives in my sons room during winter months and spends his time outside in the warmer months.

We had one as a kid. They are not a pet for petting. A bit boring really.
Make sure you get it in before it hibernates or you’ll have a right job finding it. Ours got under the fence - note there - and was er, spaded by the neighbour by mistake. RIP Henry 🐢

I got one when I was ten when they were pennies, it only died in 2015, they're quick little buggers when they get going and will escape out of your garden if there's any gap, they also bury themselves sometimes so disappear. But they're low maintenance especially as they're asleep from November to April (ish).

As Lytham says, you need to tortoise proof your perimeter fence, and I don’t mean barb wire and land mines. You can buy thin sheets of aluminium which can be used to stop em burrowing under fences if you’ve got soil borders. They basically don’t climb higher than a few inches but are good at getting under stuff.

I currently have a 3 year old Horsefield Tortoise lovely little thing here is a video of my wife hand feeding it.

I know someone who’s got a massive tortoise think it’s a leopard tortoise? It’s about 12” across and 18” long, it eats shit loads, its like Noah’s flood when it goes...doesn’t hibernate and needs to go under a special lamp several hours a day, unless summer then goes in natural sun...🤣it’s pampered like a baby...fuk that😎

'Eats shit loads'?
Can I borrow it when the weeds start to grow? 😜

When zi was in Germany ,,the kindergarten teacher asked me if I'd look after their pet tortoise ,,,,as I fancied her to bits ,,,( teacher not the tortoise ) I agreed ,,,he was a night creature ,,,didnt half make a racket in his cage ,,, kept me awake ,,,,was pretty quick on his toes when I let him out if his cage behind the block,,,,was pretty pleased to give it back ,,

He’s beautiful, what do you use for bedding as in the ground of his enclosure
You can buy edible bedding from any were online. Ours for some strange reason will only eat fresh food so we bought some additives that you sprinkle on. He lives in the house and is taken out daily. Yes I know that sounds ridiculous but he is small. He has a tortoise table top viv in the window fully heated but he still goes into hibernation for about 4 weeks. One of our cats frequently goes and sits in the viv with him, he doesn’t mind and hasn’t bitten the cat yet.
