Jerry’s goal.....just wondering

How many pros would have settled for the free kick?
Just over the half way line, lots of Pompey players ahead of him.
If that had been scored in the prem the pundits would have been waxing lyrical, such as:-

“What strength he showed”
“What determination”
“Great foresight realising that the Pompey players had pushed up.”
“This is why he is England’s top goal scorer.”
“The goal was never in doubt as soon as he recovered his balance.”
Etc. Etc. Etc

And probably it would be picked out as goal of the month contender.

Long may it continue Jerry.

Most players would have happily gone down there and then badgered the ref into giving the offending player a yellow card. Portsmouth players were happy to go down at every opportunity but to be fair everyone does it now (including us). It’s a shit way football has gone. One that is particularly annoying is the hand on the back then the player throws himself to the ground, are they really saying they would fall over that easily if it happened outside of football, or are they just conning the ref? That being said the referees are completely oblivious to it and just give the free kick.
I really would like to discuss this with a referee just to get there take on it.

Hyperbole is the oxygen of the Premier League.

This and his goal against Northampton wasn’t it? Both reverse forecast on 1st and 2nd goals of the season

I would have liked to see the ref show a yellow card for the foul after Jerry had scored.
It would have been even sweeter given the guy was on his knees in the box knowing he didn’t even manage to bring him down.

Portsmouth players fell over continuously non stop at every opportunity.
They appealed for absolutely everything, even if one of their players hoofed the ball out. They'd appeal it was theirs.

Ronan Curtis was up to all sorts of bullshit all afternoon. Biggest bunch of shithouses we've played this season and they got their just desserts. Jezza had an indifferent game up until that point but that's why we signed him. To perform magic like that.

I hope this time next year we'll see him do that in person and go wild.

To be fair to the ref it was one of the few things he got right in the game.
You can guarantee that if it had been on a Pompy player he'd have gone down like a sack of shit!!
Well done Jerry, I've finished my pie 😁🥧
Agreed pal. Free kick would have been awarded and ended up being cleared out by the Pompey defence. Game would most probably have fizzled out 0-0. A good point?? Instead the ref makes the RIGHT decision, Jerry scores a cracker and the feel good factor is back! UTMP 👍

There is a simple solution:-
Introduce a 10 minute sin bin. That would soon put a stop to the cheating.

I`ve been advocating a sin bin for years. It seems to me that it is such an obvious deterrent for both cheating and professional fouls that I can`t for the life of me understand why football`s law makers are so dozy that they can`t act. It would greatly improve the game and reduce cheating significantly.
