Foreign Holidays

With Cyprus announcing today that those who can demonstrate that they have had both jabs will be welcome from 1/5 ( albeit the UK flight restrictions aren't eased until 17/5 at the earliest ) what's everyone's thoughts

I confess to being a little uncomfortable with this because it will be the 50+ who will have the green light to go and let's get it right the lockdown has been to protect the older members of our society

Personally I'd ban foreign holidays until everyone who is eligible has had the jab or at least the opportunity

We are meant to be in this together and we should come out of it together

I can’t say I’m too fussed who goes first . I can’t go till I’m jabbed and it won’t change that fact if others can go before me.
Plus, the holiday industry has taken such a huge hit from this, airlines, staff, tour reps and travel agents etc that I think it would help the economy to get this sector back operational sooner rather than later.

Absolutely no, I've looked after my inlaws for 12 months to make sure they stay safe so I will be fucked off if the oldies start heading to Benidorm and then bringing this disease home.

I think I tend to agree , however it appears that most countries want a staggered return of visitors rather than a sudden blanket influx .

Fair point about the industry Lala

Still leaves a bitter taste for our younger lot

I'm holidaying in the UK this year anyway

I'm with you

Would be a bit of a kick in the teeth to see ' the grey pound ' off spending their money abroad after the lockdown that was put in place to protect them whilst the U40's are forced to stay in the UK

Either the Vaccine works or it doesn’t ? I’m not particularly bothered if people want to go on holiday abroad this year. I’m gonna give this year a miss Personally, but if you wanna go then go.

Younger people have the rest of their lives to go abroad. I'm not going to begrudge oap's making the most of their vaccine 'freedom'. Seems a tad churlish to me.
Maybe they should be spending their money here as we try to rebuild

I am not saying it should be forever but just this summer until the vaccinations are complete

This question encapsulates a lot of the Covid debate: certainly the personal liberty v the common good arguments. And is why I have generally swerved these discussions. Frankly I don’t know and find I think one thing in the morning and the complete opposite in the afternoon.

Me and the missus won’t be doing a foreign holiday this year but that’s our decision. Personally I’d like to grind this virus out of existence before we rush back to foreign holidays, pubs, football matches and all the rest. For the simple reason I don’t think the country can hack another lockdown. Most of us (me included) thought Eat Out to Help Out was a good idea at the time. And hated Cancel Christmas (especially at the last minute). I’m concerned the rush for foreign holidays is another mistake along the same lines.

But the point is the u40's aren't going to qualify to go are they because they haven't been prioritised for vaccines

For the record I'm with you - UK hols this year

Then they will just have to make do with stimulating the British economy instead and fill their boots the following year.

Agreed but I just think that's what we all should be doing
I've got two holidays booking in Kent at Whit and then cruising on the Thames in August
Can't wait

Foreign travel isn't all about holidays. The minute we can get to see Bruges's mum in Belgium, we'll be off like Martin Bullock on speed.
Get that Herts. It’s not dissimilar with my MIL. Except she’s in Essex. But we still aren’t allowed to visit.

But I agree a different country is an added layer of complexity you don’t need.

There no need to make it so complex. The rules are the rules.

I’m 62 and my wife is 56 both had our first jabs in the last couple of weeks. Second jabs in May and straight off on holiday. Bollocks to you young ones who’ve caused all the problems. Give me my vaccine passport.

Just go and visit.
But you aren’t allowed in the care home. So it’s not possible.

Admittedly you might be able to talk through a closed door or window. But then it’s quite distressing when MIL tries to find a way to unlock it and can’t. Good luck trying to explain that to someone with dementia. Through a closed door or window.

I think you'll find it's you oldies which have caused all the problems the youngsters tend not to get put in hospital from the disease. 👍

Yeah fair enough. Break in?

Don’t you worry the pensioners won’t give two shytes about the rest of us once they are sorted... That era has always been the same ‘super selfish’.

We may have all sacrificed our freedom, our incomes and our education, but they won’t give up their holidays.
Over 40% of the over 80's have already broke lockdown rules since vaccinated!

For the record. I haven't been abroad since 2012. I thought the women in sport thread was pushing it but now some of you are turning on pensioners because they may want to fuck off to Amnesia in Ibiza for a few E's and cheap cerveza. Is this really what this country/ board has become?
Smiles.
Edited.

It's not turning on anyone

I just find it somewhat inequitable that we've locked down our youngest to protect the rest of us and now its a case of - fcuk it I'm off for some sun and sangria

If I was a 20something ( which I am not ) I might thing - hang on What's going on here ?

😂 To be honest when they have dementia it’s more about breaking out. Especially in the case of my mum who also had dementia. To the extent of taking a hammer to an unbreakable glass door. That promptly broke. Or sneaking onto a reception desk when the receptionist was in the toilet and ringing the police on 999 to say she was being held hostage.

You seriously need a sense of (very black) humour if you have someone who has to travel down that path.

Manumission closed in 2008 your a bit out of date had a mate who worked there. 👍

I thought you were an intelligent bloke , obviously not. You’re not related to Halifax71 are you?

Some age group aint going to be happy if restrictions apply. Tourist destinations will want the spenders out there, not the ones looking for discounts like buy one cup of tea,get one free. Keep the vulnerable groups under lock and key.

Just give me a vaccination passport. Bollocks to the rest of you . I’ve always worked from home and followed the rules but I’m still paying for idiots who don’t

Most to the transmission is through schools and supermarkets not a few teenagers having a house party
