OLD PICTURES OF BLACKPOOL FC

That was was the end of my first season ws a BR regular. Great atmosphere for Sir Jim's send off. Years later I wondered why we never employed him as coach or manager
I think that was actually our first home match of that season, after winning promotion . Against West Brom . 2-2 if my memory serves me well .

The New Brighton Tower was built 1898-1900, some 5-6 years after ours and was taller (173m) as against (158m).
Didn’t last that long and suffered very sad accidents during construction and maintenance. Failed to make a profit but some of the features supporting the venture outlasted the tower: eg. the Beatles liked appearing at the theatre on the site.

Hello all.
Wondering if anyone can help. Im trying to help someone out, they had this painting for sale and it was originally listed as the Anfield Kop (think he just assumed thinking there was only one Kop) which I informed him was way off. Was doing some digging around a while ago and couldn't figure it out and started really bugging me. Yesterday, YouTube randomly suggested this video to me
and straight away I thought bugger me that's it, Bloomfield road!

To my point - can someone confirm (Im 99.9% sure) and does anyone know of an image from ground level that would support for sure (same era - with tin roof and BLACKPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB in the large type)? I've been having a root around but just can't find anything closer than a grainy aerial shot and one from inside that shows the unique angled small stand to the right and the tall floodlights.

Thanks for any help!!

I've got an image taken from off the railway but as you say, large lettering across the back of the Kop saying Blackpool Football Club. To be fair, I remember seeing it too. Image is too large to upload though

Could it have been his 600th appearance for Pool? His appearance stats seem to tie in . I think his Testimonial match came soon after as well.
Spot on, thx and well done. WBA at home was indeed Jimmy Armfield’s 600th appearance for Blackpool and after WBA he played 24 more League games, 2 FA Cup games and 1 League game to make a total of 627 games when he retired.

That painting is the Kop at Bloomfield Road. I've linked a picture from Flickr of some buses which has got the Kop in the background. If you click through to the link you'll see it says "Bloomfield Road Coach Park 1975". Hope this is what you're after and is helpful.

Thanks for the reply mate, that's really helpful. And thanks also wizaard.
I'm fascinated with old grounds so it's been great to learn a bit more about one I've never been to. Good luck with promotion.

The Beatles played the New Brighton Tower Ballroom more than any other venue, apart from The Cavern.

The Kop early 70's nicked off Facebook.

Good picture. I'd date it as 1974. There's an advert for the Zoo in the Scratching Shed, which I think opened around 1973. The fence in The Kop I reckon went up after the Bolton game in August 1974, it was only divided down the middle in 1975. I was only lucky enough to go on there two or three times a couple of years later as a kid and stood in the same spot where the fans are sitting down.

Didn't the dividing fence go down the middle before the home game to Man Utd in Oct 74 ? Then after all the effort to put it in they gave the full Kop to Utd anyway

So many rumours as to why....suffice to say we lost a magnificent resource and amenity for the town not to mention an architectural gem.

Swimming baths are very expensive to run. The town couldn't afford it. Short-sighted though. It needed a commercial enterprise to take it on.
