How many bad apples

🙄 I suspect that you read this story and saw one ‘bad apple’. I included everyone involved in this pathetic and, almost certainly, criminal cover up

In the last decade 685 Met officers have been convicted of criminal offences. Over half are still serving. That's quite a lot by any measure.

Not including those who might have aided and abetted, as mentioned in this story.

If you want to know how deep it goes at the Met read Untouchables by Michael Gillard and Laurie Flynn

Just seen another stat. SInce 2017, 555 officers have been dismissed from the Met, for any number of reasons, often escaping criminal charges as a result, the old, leave or be charged... Again, a massive figure.

And a Metropolitan Police officer has been convicted of being a member of a right wing terrorist organisation National Action..
It's not good is it?

I am not condoning what has happened or what the officers have done, they will be dealt with and rightly so. But you fail to mention the tens of thousands of officers who put their lives on the line on every day and who have to deal with horrendous situations and spend their lives seeing the worst side of life. How about a well done to them?

Teachers, Firemen, Prison Officers, Doctors, nurses, businessmen, sportsmen, civil servants, politicians, unemployed you name it, they all have their share of criminals, that, sadly is life. It doesn't make any of those groups rife with criminality, it just means that there is a proportion of society who will break the law irrespective of their job or background.

As I said, this is just the usual, predominantly left wing, posters having a pop at what they see as a right wing establishment so any excuse to bring up news stories to make them feel better. It's probably the worst thing on this board, the entrenched political views that are used to try and make a political point for their side instead of looking at the real tragedy that there is a victim of this horrible crime and people who think it is alright to do these things. It's terrible and it happens far too much, far far too much, but for every one of these stories there are thousands that go unreported which are just as bad but because they don't suit a political agenda aren't of interest.

I have been accused of being left wing and right wing on here, which is hilarious really. There are none so blind.

*Worse than a left wing extremist teaching our children?

* Of course it's not right (no pun intended) it's shocking but at least they have got him and he will be dealt with.

There are always people who will see certain jobs as a means to a criminal end. The people are at fault not the institutions

There will be a few that haven't or never will be caught as well.

Herts

You make some good and fair points but I think you might perhaps be a tad over sensitive and defensive.

I'd put Wiz in the lefty bracket but I'm sure you'd agree with me in that he is a reasonable poster and I don't think there is too much difference between what you are now saying and he has already said.

You have rightly pointed out that the majority of the police force serve us well and also acknowledge that the highlighted case is unacceptable.

Wiz said that the highlighted case was unacceptable and also pointed out that this particular evidence was not unique.

Given that corruption in the police force was the topic of discussion I think he made a fair enough point and I think if the topic of discussion had let's say been about the commendation of a brave police officer, I am sure that he and others would be supportive of the police in such a situation.

Apologies for chunnering Herts, just my twopence worth.

No it’s not but please try not to tar them all with same brush(probably not allowed to say that) There are thousands of top class police officers and we are lucky to have such a free, open and safe society largely down to their professionalism. Let’s not forget how many teachers are convicted of sex offences... nothing more to be said is there?

Wiz!!! WIZZZZZZ!. Don't you know he's the founder member of the far left Whippet Breeders against Thatcher group in the late 70's and early 80's?? And don't get me started on his follow up Wizard Against Northern Klansmen, or WANK as it was fondly remembered by his followers!

Actually 2020, Wiz is a mate, you have to have them from all sides of the political spectrum you know, he's just a bit further left than Lenin!!

I was really referring to some of the others, not the Wizmeister. 🙃 (He is a leftie though!!)

Let's go ahead and defund the police like some organisations seem to want. Then let's see what a good idea it is when anarchy follows.
I find it genuinely depressing how many of our posters respond to stories like this by sarcastically suggesting whatever they perceive to be an extreme left/liberal/snowflake response to the problem. As if law enforcement is a binary choice, either we have some unaccountable rapists for law enforcement or we have no law enforcement at all.

It's almost as if their attitude is that there is no solution, therefore we should just not care. But surely that can't be right. They can't all be ignorant arseholes?

🙄
I am not condoning what has happened or what the officers have done, they will be dealt with and rightly so.
But this is why we are here in the first place. They did this and they weren’t dealt with. Surely you see that.

p.s. like most on here, I’m an old fashioned number 8 or number 10.

Careful herts, mac will be along to report you to the mods for bullying.

It also doesn't go anywhere near telling the full story does it?

Very good Herts, I'm sorry if I appeared over critical of you, I just thought you were a tad defensive.

You were wrong about Wiz though, he's further to the left than you suggested !!!!!!!!!!!!

There's bad apples in every profession and I doubt it's just the police that benefit from cover ups.

For a long time whistle blowers in the NHS often had a rougher time than those who were guilty of malpractice, the party line is that it's now changed but I've not been in that environment for a few years so couldn't say if it has.

I was just mentioning a certain organisation's wish to defund the police. Of course there are bad apples in all professions, plenty in the police no doubt. But it just pisses me off when people and organisations look to tar all police officers with the same brush. As somebody pointed out, how many school teachers have been convicted of crimes? That doesn't mean all teachers are criminals.
To defund isn't the answer. Rooting out the bad apples is the way to do it.
And before you ask I have no connection with the police and I've never been a police officer.

To be fair defunding the police just means redistributing some of it's budget to social work, the budget for police and prisons is rising rapidly and over half of those released from prison reoffend within a year, so something's going wrong and it's just a huge vacuum we're pouring money in to, much as health care now tries to focus on prevention being better than the cure, society needs to change some of it's approach to offending.

Obviously we still need a police force 😉

Older male copper gets stuck into younger female coppers in more ways than one . Many male plod will see this as a perk of the job along with their gilt edged pension

Yes but nobody’s talking about defunding the police here except you, nobody is saying all police officers are criminals. You’re introducing extreme arguments because they’re easier to disagree with in your own head, to reinforce your own beliefs. All I’m saying is before you start second guessing what an imaginary political opponent would make of something, first consider what you actually think of the thing itself.

How many bad apples in the Asian community or the black community, paedo gangs, drug related murders, slavery, immigration rule breakers, the list is endless and you single out one white male officer.

I don't have to second guess what some 'political opponents' (your words) would make of this. I know what I think of this situation and I've expressed that in my previous post.

Ah, someone who only sees one bad apple in this story.

anyway, Eagle, you have my permission to start a thread of your own choosing, should you wish to do. Enjoy 😘

You've beat me to it.

The Met do seem to have more than their fare share of “issues” but don’t worry Cressida Dick has it under control.

I'm not convinced by the left wing extremist teaching children line. It's far too vague. For some on here, anyone centre left is extreme. It depends where they are on their own political spectrum.
As for this Police officer. One thing is absolutely clear. He was a member of an organisation that is literally a supporter of Nazi ideals. There's no Godwin's law with these fuckers: they are the real deal. This is the same organisation that has a member currently doing time for amongst more reprehensible actions, the plotting of the murder of a Labour MP.
Where you are absolutely correct is that this should in no way tarnish the overwhelming number of decent, honest and hardworking police officers.

As a matter of interest I'm amazed more is not made of information that schools have on these type of characters. Through our Prevent laws/ training, data is kept and available for any student displaying signs of religious or political extremism. I'm led to believe that this particular officer had come to the attention of the school who passed this on to the relevant authorities.

Its how the US 'evolved' its penal system where its become just another business (for the rich to plunder), and where a fractured society keeps it ticking along nicely.

Just as long as theres enough coming into the public purse then the 'gravy train'* will keep on flowing

*new AVFTT buzzword.

It wasn't aimed at teachers Mark, it was aimed at Cat who appears to be extreme left to me as there are some extreme right on here too. Thankfully most people lean one way or the other or somewhere in the middle you and I have worked most of our adult lives as either a teacher or a police officer but neither of us would dream of doing the things the tiny minority of dodgy police officers or teachers do and I doubt we know any or have known any over the years, I can say that I knew 3 or 4 ut only once they were caught, I would never have known because they are so good at hiding it.

When you have such large organisations they are bound to attract people who see the organisation as a place where they can hide and prepare their nefarious deeds under the cover of the very opposite of what they stand for.

I have always been a conservative leaning voter in the past although as I have got older and experienced life more and had time to think about things I would now say I am very much a centre leaning left with a hint of right, if that makes sense.

I suppose what I'm trying to say, really badly, is that I don't like occupations being selected as being institutionally bad on the basis of some bad employees, it seems to be a blinkered and political or even anti establishment view and it really isn't that complicated. There are plenty of dangerous phuckwits out there more's the pity and the sooner they are all routed out the better.

I know you weren't having a pop at teachers etc. I'm still not convinced CAT is extreme left; nor am I convinced there's many if any extreme right on here. To me, you'd have to belong to Claire Fox's (now in the Lord's) old buddies in the Revolutionary Communist Party or be part of the BNP/ British Movement.
I'm a democratic Socialist. Have been for all my adult life. I've voted Labour since I was 18 so when some on here use the word lefty, I wear that as a badge of honour. I frequently think 'and your problem is what?' It's a compliment to me. Apparently to some though, that would also class me as an extremist.

From my own experience, I’d say that good, decent, honest Police Officers are few and far between, if they exist at all.

The Police Service lacks integrity and whilst I would agree that many of these officers ‘also’ put their lives on the line in performing their duty, that does not change the fact that (at the same time) they are also corrupt.

In fact I’d go as far as to say that corruption is so endemic within the Police Service that most serving officers don’t even notice that they are doing it...

A simple example when I was recently required to give a witness statement and a perfectly nice officer was essentially coaching me to say what he wanted, rather than asking questions to uncover the truth.

I’ve witnessed them lie under oath, use violence when they can get away with it, steal drugs for their own personal use and adopt a collective approach that protects anyone within the ranks who steps out of line.

I’m at a loss as to why you defend them Pete, you will have seen a lot of this first hand and I know I’m not talking crap as I have heard what goes on first hand from mates within the service.

I don’t know where to start with that Daz. First.y, as you know, I couldn’t wait to get out of the police, I hated it in the last few years and it was never really a vocation for me, I had been bumming around for years doing some pretty sexy jobs in the music business and later in photography but I was immature even at 26 and squandered some great opportunities to really get on in jobs I loved but I was hopelessly in love with my gf at the time and instead of putting the work in I should of I spent as much time as I could with her.

So 26 years old, life drifting by, married (different girl) who was doing really well work wise, I had to pull my finger out so I saw a full page ad for the police and went to an open evening. Money was good and I would get a free house, a free house ffs! I applied got a 2 day assessment and interview and got in. It was never a dream to be in the police, it had never even been a single thought. I was the least likely copper in the country but I stuck it out for 27 years before I took early retirement after being diagnosed with PTSD following years of working on child protection and then public protection and if I hadn’t of left when I did I don’t think I’d be here today.

I can say, hand on heart, that in those years I only ever saw one policeman do wrong and ended up giving evidence against him along with several other officers and he was found guilty of GBH and went to prison for several years. Other than that nothing. However when I left I went to work for a large London based private housing association and I saw corruption, bullying, criminality all the time, it was shocking and when I reported it I was treated like a leper by work colleagues and management so I walked out one morning and never went back. For the last 4 years I retrained and worked for myself as a gardener, I wish I had done it years ago and now have 2 businesses and employ 5 people, soon to be 6 and I love it. If I had my time back again I would never have joined the police, I would have ditched the girlfriend and committed totally to the music business and music journalism. Not because I saw corrupt and violent police officers, I didn’t, but because I saw the most terrible things people could do to each other day after day after day and I still get terrible nightmares about it 4 or 5 nights a week.

So, you know me, we are mates and I am telling you that I can’t agree with your wild assumptions because I didn’t witness it. I would say that today the police are a shadow of what they were 30 years ago dealing with a growing population who are far more violent than they used to be and they know there is little deterrent.

I’m not defending the police, I didn’t like them much and have little time for them now I am defending all occupations against people with agendas picking up on horrible incidents and then painting everyone in that profession with the same brush by making wild assumptions.

Well Cat does appear far more extreme than you or Maybe obsessive is a better description. I also think we have a handful of pretty far right posters too.

I have known you a long time Mark, you are certainly no extremist, a normal (if not particularly short) person who has many similar ideals to myself. Anyway looking forward to you buying me a pint soon you old lefty punk!!

Actually, I was thinking. If I was a teacher on the Fylde coast I don’t think I’d be able to stop myself trying to indoctrinate the kids into being Pool supporters!

Ha ha. There's a few Pool fans that I teach that may be looked on more favourably than say...err....a PNE fan. Don't make that public though. Smiles.
We could probably have a day long sesh just talking music.

I can appreciate what you have said and I've no reason to doubt you at all. However you paint a very different picture to the lads that I have spoken to, although I suspect there may be good reason for the difference.

My wife has, in the past, had reason to deal with the department that you worked for and she has nothing but good things to say about her experience. That said, for most of us, these are not the Police that we might interact with on a normal day to day basis and theres probably a good reason why they are no pounding the streets perhaps.

The lads I know are all what you might call front line Polkice Officers... Dog handlers, riot police etc.. and they paint a very different picture of the Police Service. There's no 'Wild Assumprions' in anything I have said, but instead first hand experience and accounts that have been recalled by friends.

When I witness the kind of casual corruption / dishonesty in those who really ought to exemplify values of honesty & integrity, I find that quite disturbing. Obviously, I accept that my opinion is inevitably going to be coloured by my own personal experience, but I'm not a criminal and I have absolutely no reason at all to have an axe to grind.

My grandad was in the police. No idea what he was like as he died when was young. I know he got commendations for a couple of things; one of which was facing down an armed robber and arresting him.

That has no bearing on anything else other than to note there’s going to be good and bad in all walks of life and professions. Bent coppers always look worse because they’re coppers. Nobody would moan about a bricklayer being a criminal because there’s no juxtaposition.

Sometimes in life the authority figure is a despicable twunt, sometimes the people challenging their authority are...

Thanks for listening.

And a Metropolitan Police officer has been convicted of being a member of a right wing terrorist organisation National Action..
It's not good is it?
Well at least they got their man, although it’s a rather round about way of going about things, having to employ him first.
No surprise to see another rwnj found with indecent images of children. What is it with these sort?
