What a player and by all accounts what a good bloke too. My dad still talks about Morty far more even than Matthews, and I even named my cat after a player long before my time :)

Dear Seasiders

All Blackpool fans are invited to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the birth of one of Blackpool & England’s greatest ever players, Stan Mortensen, this Wednesday at the Morty Statue on 26th May - with Tony Green and representatives from the club. Members of Morty’s remaining family will be present plus a specially composed piece of prose on Stan Mortensen from our very own Tony Parr. We will be hosting a short celebration and acknowledgment to the immense contribution of Morty - fans to gather around his statue at 5.45pm - his great friend and Blackpool legend Tony Green plus others will say some words at 6pm. At 6.30pm we will head to the Armfield Club for a drink to Morty for those that can plus a compilation film and memories of Morty’s career thanks to Peter, John & Gerry.

Thank you Lee Charles TV who will be filming the entire event for posterity. Also, I am delighted to say that
@BpoolCouncil& @TheBplTower have granted our kind request to celebrate the 100th birthday of Blackpool & England legend Stan Mortensen on 26th May. Once dark on the evening, the iconic Blackpool Tower will be lit tangerine & the words ‘MORTY 100’ emblazoned!

We are also hoping to have Stan’s 1953 FA Cup Final winners medal at the event for fans to have their picture taken with it.

Stan is for one of the greatest servants the town has ever known - as well as his unsurpassed football record he also served the council and helped saved the club by selling his memorabilia in the 1980’s. It is also a message from the town, council and community to celebrate this landmark - Stan Mortensen, as a footballer and servant to the town and council, you will never be forgotten and we thank you for your contribution to our team, club, success, awareness across the World over decades, the club’s heritage, dna, achievements, glory and memories. You have inspired more people than you will ever know. — Stanley Harding Mortensen Born: 26th May 1921, South Shields 354 appearances & 226 goals for Blackpool - the club’s all time greatest scorer 25 appearances & 23 goals for England First England player to score in a World Cup Finals The only player to score a hat-trick in an F.A. Cup Final at Wembley Stadium First England player to score in a World Cup Qualifier Scored four goals on his debut for England in 1947 Served his country in the Second World War in the RAF He was the only survivor of his RAF bomber crew after a crash in 1939, aged 18 His record of scoring in 12 consecutive FA Cup rounds (including the final of 1948) remains unmatched. He also scored in 15 consecutive First Division games in 1950-51 Morty went on to manage the club, serve the town council in the tourism and publicity area, support countless charities and sold most of his memorabilia and England caps and shirts to save the club in the 1980’s and for other good causes and community groups. Thank you in advance for showing your appreciation to this great man’s contribution to the club we love.

Will be there to acknowledge our great history. Also does anyone feel we should have a statue outside the ground of our only
''Playing'' World Cup Winners Medalist Alan Ball ( Only 11 of them)
Also, in my opinion, Bally was MoM.
He covered every square inch of the pitch, and was magnificent on the day.

It should be a good event with the playoff final a few days later. Hopefully, Jerry will get a hatrick at Wembley

Happy birthday Stan. Looking forward to seeing coverage of the event on Lee Charles TV, especially Tony Green's tribute. One of the greats talking about one of the greats.

i shall be raising a glass later to stan and you all. only sorry i can't be there in person. i'm sure it will be a terrific night and perfect curtain-raiser for sunday.
