Safe standing at Bloomfield road

What are peoples opinions on safe standing , I’d love to go back to the south paddock days . I’ve never been at safe standing stadium so don’t know the set up. Does anyone think Simon Sadler would consider it and what are the fans views . I’m think the whole of the south

It has been mentioned at the Structured Dialogue meetings but I'm not sure it's high up on the list of priorities.

Big expense for him to do in the south but maybe with the plans for the East or even North East corner it should be included?

Have we learnt nothing from Bolton, ibrox Heysal or Hillsborough. All seater stadiums were recommended for a reason. No one is telling me that the great atmosphere created when Holloway was manager paled into insignificance to the days of Walsh and Hatton. No game when I stood on the terraces had a more electric atmosphere than Birmingham away in the playoffs.

A backward step for me. I never saw the attraction in what used to go on in the South Paddock.
Can't see it being signed off-too many things to consider including exits, gradients and of course the cost.

It'd be good if ordinary fans were consulted at some point, rather than certain groups pushing it as a core agenda.

I do like standing at matches but it’s like an old habit that dies hard. The younger crowd probably couldn’t give a toss about it. That Forest away match was all seater and we all stood through it all! The only way we get it is in the front rows of a new east...with seats behind like the old west. they wouldn’t rip out existing seating to replace with safe standing.

They were massive Kops, you can't tell me it's unsafe to have a standing area similar to what there was back in the old ground in front of the West stand. I've accepted it's sitting down nowadays but I could soon revert back.

You obviously don't understand how the safe standing system works? The clue is in the name.

Fans should be able to stand (safely) if they want.

So it was the standing that caused the deaths? Or was it the police letting too many fans in one gate along with Liverpool fans storming the turnstiles?

Celtic have had a safe standing area since 2016 which 2600 can fit into it have they had any problems?

Birmingham away in the play offs not one single person was sat down for the whole game around me so bringing in areas where you can stand safely is far better than stood in front of a seat.

If I was given a choice I'd probably prefer to stand, but my lad prefers to sit because he's always sat down to watch the match, he's never known anything else. I used to stand in the South Paddock in the 70's and 80's, and those "surges" when we scored were OK as long as you were stood near the top. There weren't enough fans there for a full top to bottom surge, so if like me you were stood half way down the terraces, you had to run down the terrace steps to avoid falling and/or being stamped on.
I loved it then, but doubt I'd like it now. As someone has said, clue is in the name, and it would be good to have the choice if the cost isn't prohibitive

Dave, back wall of the South Paddock was the place to be!

Amazing that some seem unable to work out that it is safe standing, using rail seating, and only in small sections of stadiums.

Tragedies such as those mentioned, simply aren't possible with safe standing. As for surges, again how? It isn't terracing it is rail seating, with full protection.

It is used perfectly well at numerous stadiums, as has been pointed out at Celtic for instance in a small area. And it works perfectly well in, for instance, Germany. Borussia Dortmund's South Stand, aka, "Yellow Wall" holds 25,000 fans, safe standing.

Shrewsbury Town have rail seating convertible to safe standing. Both Man City and Man United want to install some too. As well as various other clubs.

Plus some newly built stadiums have included terracing such as the Globe Arena.

Never been a huge fan of standing myself but thats prob cos I'm a short a£se. As for safe standing areas, I don't have any issue at all with it, I'd choose to sit next to it but not be in it. The rail seatings that would be used still allocate you ur seat exactly as it is now, only difference is ur seat is locked upright so u stand instead in the allocated spot. Surges and the like from back in the day wouldn't be able to happen cos there would still be a seat and a bar in front of you so it would be safe. In truth it wouldn't be much different than now if you stand up with the only difference being you wouldn't have someone behind you telling you to sit down or blocking someone else's view, from that point it's worth it to the people who would want to stand all game but whether that's enough for the cost involved od installing it I'm not so sure.

You had to get there about an hour before kick off IIRC.
Also in the 70"s I was even more of a short arse then, about 5 ft 0, so I would have missed everything sadly.
I also liked the kop, and having a good lean against the barriers. I agree with the posts about surges not happening now, that's what I meant by saying the clue is in the title, "safe standing" 👍

I used to love the South paddock. Probably a bit too old and not fit enough nowadays for a full match bouncing about in those conditions, but I’d give safe standing a go.
I was less worried about surges than I was about whether the guy behind me wanted a piss to be honest.

Yes it should be brought back but normal terracing like it used to be.

It should be 50% of the area behind each goal with seating above.

I'm 53 and would much prefer to stand at the game but for those who don't want to stand there will be plenty of seats still available.

You will also increase the capacity and could charge less for the standing tickets making it more affordable.

Why should football be treated any differently to concerts / festivals, etc. where there is all standing ?

If it’s brought back it will be the rail seating option which is what is used at Celtic Park, Shrewsbury and I believe is being installed at Old Trafford and the Etihad this summer (although Premier League clubs are yet to be given permission to actually use them in a standing set up).

There’s no need for Sadler, given the recent expenses, to spend money on removing existing seats and installing rail seating anywhere at Bloomfield Road, however if a new East Stand, or North East corner was to built it would make sense to ‘future proof’ such a development by including it in any new structure and designing the facilities accordingly.

I don’t think anyone can really expect BFC just to stump up extra money because people would prefer to stand than sit. I think it would therefore be fair and quite possibly a good idea for the fans group to come together and fundraise for the purchase of and installation of any rail seating - whether that be in a new development or retrofitted into the existing stands - that would show Sadler the fans are supportive and despite having shallower pockets than he maybe does that they’re just as willing to dig deep.

The one place the club really should be spending money in my opinion is upgrading disabled seating. I’m not a wheelchair user myself and I’m unsure if any progress has been made on this yet or not - but the existing disabled seating at the bottom of the stands, open to the elements, not raised and in the walkway is a really really shocking facility and not at all acceptable. Completely the fault of the Oystons though.
