The growth of a Fan Base and capitalising on it

My two sons are 21 and 23 and both Utd fans and both brought up in Blackpool.

They and 3 mates (who all support other teams) have today bought 5 season tickets together in North Stand to go and cheer on the Tangerines having really enjoyed the play off semis and finals and getting caught up with it all.

I know some of the auld fuddies on here would probably prefer they hadn't bought tickets, think they’re plastics etc etc zzzzzz......but it’s an interesting tiny example of how crowds/support can grow rapidly if a club has a spell of success and prices are reasonable and so forth. I know Simon Sadler and the people he has working from him will be doing their best to capitalise on this.
I can see 10,000 season tickets with a bit of advertising, a bit of buzz around new signings and the icing on the cake will be if England do well at the Euros as that always boost football attendances the following season.

Then it’s a question of trying to keep these new less devout “secondary” fans going forwards and the best guarantee of that is a sense of belonging and decent Football

That’s brilliant. Well done to them. And hope they stay fans👍.

No "secondary fans" about it Blood. If they want to turn out to support the Pool, all well and good.

Brilliant. They'll love the atmosphere in the North and hopefully will play their part in developing that atmosphere.

Getting a season ticket as a team goes from League One to the Championship is the antithesis of a 'plastic as far as I'm concerned.

Great stuff. I think one of the exciting things is that I can't see us being happy with just survival. I don't think it's the way Sadler and Critchley operate - similar to Ollie, I think they view BFC as better than that.
Also, I bet if they were offered a ticket at £200 in league 1 they wouldn't have taken it - the point being that the price doesn't have to be dirt cheap to attract newbies, as long as the club is successful and there is a demonstrable ambition at the club.

No qualms at all. They are supporting our club whoever they support as their first team.
So yeah, hope your boys enjoy the season as much as we all hope too 👍

I'm naturally glass half empty and see next season as consolidation. If you're expecting more, all power to you.

There are some hypocrites on here.

Isn't this one of the reasons, some on here take the piss out of Fleetwood?

I don't have a problem with it, I might add.

The more the merrier I say the way to keep the newbies on board is stay in the Championship they then get in the habit of following the Pool. 👍

Have you bought one too, peroni kid.

Not expecting, just I don't think the height of Critchley and Sadlers longer term ambition for Blackpool is escaping relegation from the championship year on year. I personally would be delighted with consolidating next season.

Great stuff blood
Any new supporters is a bonus as far as I'm concerned

Once they start going they will become more interested and something special about supporting your home town team and the connection you get
When I was about 7 had an uncle took me to Everton games and if I had to choose a second team it would be the toffees
My son has always been Tangerine and really looking forward to getting back to games with him after wat too long - I'm sure you will be the same
We still haven't decided on north or south stands yet ,what about you ??

Being a big club fan is generally the norm for most kids but they don’t get to see live games.
Even if Blackpool start as their second team, if they go and enjoy live football as a spectacle it’s something that will grow and grow inside them. Going to watch United, Liverpool, City etc will be much harder to do and get tickets for, so I’m cool with them armcharing the Prem and getting their live kicks as a Pool fan.

Then one day..... they miss watching the Prem match on Sky as they’re watching Pool on ifollow away and realise they’ve been seduced to the Tangerine side 😎👍

I’m one of the auldist fuddies on here blood and I say the more the merrier. As long as they are in the north of course.😜😜

Doesn't matter how they start, but I believe the feeling of a real game, a vociferous crowd, hopefully relative success will form a bond much better than watching a team on TV.

Its real football with no VAR. Its just so much fun attending the games.

This is the kind of thing we need to do in the town.

The people actually have that connection of supporting the team of the town they are born in or live in, so it makes the success much better than picking a top world side.

I'm sure Sadler will take anybody's money with a big smile!!

It feels quite an old age to be switching allegiances, but given you're a United fan and got on board in the Prem year in hospitality and all that, followed in short order by NAPM it's understandable.

Hopefully, in the future when they talk about "we" they mean Blackpool; but that might take a little time. Meanwhile, I hope they get as much enjoyment and heartache watching Blackpool as those of us with one team.

Great stuff.

People who knock 'plastics' just don't understand that we're the oddballs, the idiots who turn up for anything, dyed in the wool is nothing to be that proud of, it's almost a mental illness, there's much better things to be doing with your time and money 90% of the time.

No club can survive on this core support and no club can survive without attracting younger supporters.

We aren’t mad though, we are passionate and loyal 🥰

Yawn....... Both Man Utd fans born in Blackpool but as Manures star begins to fade, theyve jumped ship to support their hometown team. Jeeez!!!!!
They ain’t jumped Ship but I admire your bitterness Old Timer 👍

Well done Bloodster...

Mind you, your lads had probably been to the Piggery to see Manure less times than you! 😜

Ive been hundreds of times mate , they have been a handful of times. They have never been able to afford it. It was 50p in the Stretty potg when I started going....a different World

The need to support a really big club (I'm surprised it's not City) is in my view insecurity.
I think it takes guts for Blackpool born and bread lads to stand up and say I support Blackpool.
What a load of bollocks😂

Shit just happens a d you start supporting who you support. Insecurity and guts don’t even come into the equation...

If only the core ever attended it would get embarrassing. Taking 7/8k to Wembley or getting 7k home gates in the Championship is the reality without the day trippers/on the fencers. I love nothing more than a packed Bloomfield Road and you don't get that without the fair weather fans, it is what it is. They're putting money into the club and if they're getting behind the boys in Tangerine it's okay in my book.

I see it as a necessary evil however, and I don't think its worthy of celebration that the United and Liverpool fans of the Fylde Coast are deciding to turn up now we're semi-successful again. It makes up the numbers and that is absolutely necessary both from a business and atmosphere point of view, but it's not something worthy of applause IMO.

I have mates who are fans of Prem clubs who will be doing exactly what you describe in your OP, so I don't mean that in a snarky way Bloodtangerine but it's just my opinion on it 👍
