The growth of a Fan Base and capitalising on it

What a load of bollocksšŸ˜‚

Shit just happens a d you start supporting who you support. Insecurity and guts donā€™t even come into the equation...
Pretty much, if my Dad hadn't taken me along in the early 80s I could have been supporting anyone, or more likely no one, football can be bloody boring at times if you've no investment.

The need to support a really big club (I'm surprised it's not City) is in my view insecurity.
I think it takes guts for Blackpool born and bread lads to stand up and say I support Blackpool.
Is it balls... šŸ˜‚ I rather think people like to massage their own ego's with the whole "I'm so much better than everyone else because I support my home town club" bollocks are all a bit insecure TBH. The lads who support out of town clubs and especially the bigger clubs get loads of stick, far more than Blackpool Fans, so if anything you need to have a thicker skin to go the other way.

The fact is that people choose their club for all sorts of reasons, some because of success, others because they like the colour of the shirt, loads because of a family connection and many because of where they are from or where their family was originally from. Each to their own.... People need to wind their neck in about it and stop being so damned elitist about who someone else should or shouldn;t support...

If the local team is good enough and strives for success, then more people will come and support it, if it's shit then they won't..... Itls not rocket science

My two sons are 21 and 23 and both Utd fans and both brought up in Blackpool.

They and 3 mates (who all support other teams) have today bought 5 season tickets together in North Stand to go and cheer on the Tangerines having really enjoyed the play off semis and finals and getting caught up with it all.

I know some of the auld fuddies on here would probably prefer they hadn't bought tickets, think theyā€™re plastics etc etc zzzzzz......but itā€™s an interesting tiny example of how crowds/support can grow rapidly if a club has a spell of success and prices are reasonable and so forth. I know Simon Sadler and the people he has working from him will be doing their best to capitalise on this.
I can see 10,000 season tickets with a bit of advertising, a bit of buzz around new signings and the icing on the cake will be if England do well at the Euros as that always boost football attendances the following season.

Then itā€™s a question of trying to keep these new less devout ā€œsecondaryā€ fans going forwards and the best guarantee of that is a sense of belonging and decent Football
Respect and I take back all the shit people have given you over the years šŸ˜‰

Thatā€™s great to hear Blood, and itā€™s the way of things that a lot of younger fans will have a second (or first) club that is one of the ā€˜big boysā€™. Especially this day and age when from day one the tinternet, FIFA on the consoles, YouTube and everything else is geared towards pushing the ā€˜superstarā€™ clubs in the faces of younger fans.

The dream is that with an owner who is looking for progress and success and making the club the place you absolutely want to be on a Saturday afternoon (or whenever Sky force us to play), then more folk will make us their first club. Itā€™s then a small step to realising that following one of the big boys is passĆ© and their hometown club itā€™s at. Youā€™ve only yourself to blame then, Blood, when they go full Tangerine.

Bottom line for me, the fuller our ground with folk cheering our lads on the better. Better for us, better for the club, better for the town.

Back to the point of the OP, I have experienced the same with a 20 year old relative saying about 5 of his mates are getting season tickets. These are 'plastics' who support prem teams. Hopefully they realise how much better the real matchday experience is and get the bug. This is what we couldnt capitalise on from the prem season due to the oystons actions. Hopefully that wont happen under St Sadler.

Good one Blood, btw have they stopped growing yet? they must be at least 11ā€™5 & 11ā€™7 respectively by now! šŸ˜†šŸ‘

See, thereā€™s 10 new season tickets that just two of us know about. I think 10,000 is definitely possible

Great to hear bloodšŸ‘. The more fans we get watching the Mighty the better in the Championship and canā€™t wait to see the kids donned in tangerine shirts in the parks and on the streets again. SS has reconnected the club with the the town and communities again after the poisonous fractured years we had to endure the futures bright!

FFS, you've all completely missed the real point of Blood's O/P so it will have to me that will oblige............

But Blood....... You don't look old enough to have boys that age!!!!!! šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£ šŸ¤£

It took a while, but there you go Andy šŸ™ƒ

If it was down to some people, only the people who went to Barnet away would be allowed to watch. Need all the support we can get.
That's the overriding theme I've always had at national fans meetings, where a sort of inverted snobbery exists.

Just annoys me intensely and if anything strengthens resolve on my part.

The more the merrier, we all started watching Pool at some stage and it only takes a moment to catch the bug of actually being there as opposed to watching on TV. This year is the perfect example, as much as I've enjoyed Blackpool's success, not being there for the most part is a massive shame. Hopefully your lads will realise supporting a team isn't all about winning, it is the sense of belonging and being part of something.

You get that kind of thing in every Club and Committee from Lands End to John O'Groats...

Whether it's a Football Club, a Fishing Syndicate, a Golf Club or a Pigeon Racing Society it's always the same...."Look at me....., I've been here longer, come to meetings more often, travel further to games, was here through the hard times, spend more money than anyone else.... etc. etc."

Unfortunately it's the way of the world and I'm not sure those people are worth having any 'resolve' against... They don't merit attention.... Ultimately they are individuals who are fighting their own personal battle....The reason they need to tell their life reaffirming story and to develop the caricature of "Most Loyal Supporter" and bore everyone else tlo death with tales of their Football Supporting Sacrifice is because they are nothing without that... They have low self esteem and need to elevate themselves somehow...

Why would you want to waste your own energy by allowing people like that to suck you into their world? It's all so not important and yet if you are not careful it can become all consuming....

My oldest G/G/son (11 y.o.) has been brought up as a ManU supporter. His father, for some reason is a ManU fan.
Never lived in Manchester and has made my Daughter a fan also. šŸ™„
Fortunately his maternal G/Pa is a Pool fan and has taken him to games before Lockdown.
Maybe he will learn to appreciate the Pool and not be a Plastic.

To answer the question-its because these people are on a power trip and that usually manifests itself with control of tickets, use (say) of an exec box for home games, first dibs on players night tickets, and generally priority on what they consider to be important to their agenda.

Its ok if these things aren't important to individual supporters but at some clubs its critical to established groups and their members, especially when away tickets are in huge demand.

For feck sake lads, don't be letting Blood grind a ton out of this.

Before anybody questions my contribution, this post goes in the extras.

Good point well made. I'm still unsure which 'United' he was referring to but it could have been the chocolate biscuit of the same name.

Cue a load of puns by the usual bandits on here.

Itā€™s only important if you let it be important. Itā€™s actually not important at all...

Well it would be if you've a season long contract with a coach company and have long standing members wanting their regular tickets for instance.

The future support lies with the youngsters. We need to provide every possible incentive to get them into the ground, be that discounted STs, reasonable priced food, good and clean facilities, a brilliant atmosphere with good music, which all make for a good experience, regardless of whether we win - obviously success on the pitch is a bonus.

You are trying to pick up crumbs there Plumbs.

There was no doubt whether he was talking about football or biscuits, he clearly said club.

Can I ask you a question Plumbs....

All this festering and obsessing over these daft committees and stressing over whether someone who, in your opinion deserves a ticket doesnā€™t get one and someone less deserving does... Does all of that stuff enhance your life and make you feel better ?

What has this got to do with us tho?
Everything because it might not necessarily be a ticketing issue, in fact you guys had major issues with one particular group during the Os tenure.

One day someone will come up the idea of an all embracing fans group, so every fan has a conduit to the boardroom and subsequent decisions.
In the meantime its a battle of self interest cliques and that includes the Football Supporters Association.

My life is fine but for some people football is their life, indeed one of the other Leeds groups chief was on the phone the other week extremely distressed because some of his members hadn't made the cut on our last game ballot.
I'm also involved with disabled fans who often feel neglected and marginalised for things that never crossed my mind, and also LGBT supporters who only until recently felt the same.

Much more to football fans when you look beyond the usual stuff and say the average fan.

So what though? I mean some bloke is 'distressed' because some of his members haven't made the cut on your last game ballot.... I mean just read that sentence back and contemplate it for a moment.... 1. Said bloke needs to seriously get a grip 2. Why the fuck are you concerning yourself with that bullshit and 3. Someone(s) are always going to be peeved off because they failed to get a ticket if they are in short supply.

You're involved with disaffected Disabled and LBGT fans how? Are these Family Members or Friends?

Exactly my thoughts , the more new fans we have the better it will be, potential higher investment, better atmosphere, and thereā€™s no better feeling than belonging to something special like the current BFC.

The more fans the better?
Sounds like a reasonable mantra.
Does that include all existing fans, who chose, for whatever reason, not to follow NAPM?

A plastic fan for me is a UTD fan or city or Liverpool or any other top club armchair fan who never goes or even tries to go ! Using the I could never get a ticket line ! But never tries to buy a ticket in truth.
Blackpool would always take more than 7/8000 to Wembley though.
personally Iā€™d welcome all newcomers especially people who are willing to buy a season ticket as long as it didnā€™t stop a Seasider getting one, and thatā€™s not going to happen yet. šŸ‘
