National League big finish

Last game coming up on Saturday to decide who gets a chance to join Sutton in the EFL. In play-off positions with one game to go are Torquay, Stockport, Hartlepool, Notts County, Wrexham and Chesterfield. But Bromley, Eastleigh and Halifax still have play-off hopes. Lots of football league history among those clubs.

Most interesting last game is Halifax v Chesterfield with the winner likely to earn a play-off spot. Danny Rowe scored his 13th and 14th goals of the season against Dagenham on Saturday to set Chesterfield up for the Halifax showdown. The hopes of both clubs could be dashed if Eastleigh win their game in hand at Altrincham tomorrow and then beat Solihull at the weekend.

What an endorsement for the play-offs with ten clubs still in with a promotion chance on the last day.

Goes to show doesn't it what a bloody tough league that is to get out of now and fair plat to Sutton. Have friends who live in Stockport and the work that has gone on in rebuilding that club has been commendable. You have those American actors with a vested interest in Wrexham, Stelling at Hartlepool and Notts Count and Chesterfield are big clubs.

If you were a Grimsby or Southend fan having been relegated, you wouldn't be counting any chickens next year.

Without the play-offs, that league, like some of the others, would have been over in March for nearly all the clubs.

14 goals in one season for Danny Rowe for three different clubs in not many starts. That's pretty good going.

Didn't AFC Fylde sneak in at the last minute? Surely they got a point for every mention on here during the season? (smiley)

Not at all. Some wanted us to go down.
And again, it is all interpretation looking back. It is easy to look back at things with a very black and white view. When in reality it is often much more complex and this was so. There was a complete disconnect with a significant number of fans. The term Oyston FC for instance being used.

I had rows with people at the time who delighted in us losing games as it all helped the cause, as they saw it.

As I repeatedly said at the time, relegation helped the Oystons as it enabled reductions in running expenses. Non league would have slashed the costs and extended their tenure.

100% Wizz - if the old forum still existed many of those threads would still be there. There was a very thin line between the long term ownership of the club and the long term future of the club and our league position was always going to be fundamental to the latter of those. The O's had been hoisted by their own petard and that was apparent as soon as VB started his court case, from that moment actually it was as important what happened on the field as off it.

Yeah good luck Stockport!
Easy to forget but it was Paul Simpson who played a large part in the season that lead to their downfall. It's been 10 years now and have a mate who's a County fan and during the whole NAPM movement I used to go to County with him and often wondered if we would follow them in to non-league. Lovely club, well run and actually big enough to be back in the EFL without being a bill big bollox Notts County club who I'm enjoying being in the non-league.

No problem with Stockport coming up , would be great to have them back.
Bit harsh calling Notts County a bill big bollox club, they are anything but. It's a family club with support passed down the generations rather than following the easy route and supporting the more successful Forest. They have been screwed over by at least 2 different owners in the last 15 years and suffered because of it. Always a great away day as well .

With some of the worst stewards in football .. hopefully they all lost their jobs!

Watching Torquay vs Notts County, a very decent game, and the 1,200 Torquay locals creating a good atmosphere. Ignoring the happy clapping clappers that appear to have been given out.

Happy for TUFC, a well ran little club who deserve a promotion. Don’t go very often but have always enjoyed the odd day out watching them. Just hope they can now win next week.
