I'm saying that there are illegal immigrants coming, but I have no evidence to hand to say how many, how regularly and how many get in. And I don't think you "know" any more than I do.

I was reading the other day that there are staff shortages in London partly because thousands of Poles have gone home since Brexit. You never read about that in the tabloid press.

It’s a complex problem. The solution being pursued by the Government is to change the immigration policy so there would be two tiers of immigrants each of which would be handled differently as they’d have different status. (At the moment we have to process them all the same no matter how they get to the UK).
As I understand it, the new proposals would see the illegal immigrants placed into detention facilities for up to 6 months during which time the authorities would attempt to arrange their return to a county of origin.
The legal immigrants would have their asylum applications processed and they would be housed and supported fully etc. The left wing guests we see on these media channels refer to the proposals as extreme and used hyped up rhetoric about ‘imprisoning migrants’. Well they criticise the proposed new policy and don’t seem to have any alternative to the status quo so by default they’re sanctioning the continuation of the ever growing illegal immigration. Of course any new immigration policy needs careful scrutiny but on the face of it I think it would help. At the moment the incentive to illegally migrate is high. It’s growing because the immigrants in France see others being successful so the word spreads and they want to follow suit. We need to disincentivise it. Instead of knowing they’ll be received with open arms and housed etc they will think twice if they know they will be detained with a view to being deported. They won’t be so willing to spend thousands of euros if that’s the likely outcome.

With respect there are well published statistics on the numbers coming in. So I do know that they’re going up year in year and I do know that this is the year with the highest number of illegal immigrants coming across the channel ever seen. So on this topic I clearly do know more than you cos I’ve been bothers to do a quick google.
By the way, the shortage of workers has been a big story for weeks. It started with the shortage of hgv drivers but now we hear about shortages across many many jobs roles and sectors.
This is part due to Brexit, Covid, and because wages in Europe have gone up so the differential with UK wages is less so it’s less beneficial to come here for work.
There’s actual statistics about the job vacancies shortfall across the various job roles. Again this is easily found using google. Less Polish workers in London is one microcosm of the whole issue.
 
Well the councils in England have tough choices to make, with over 95,000 people in temporary accommodation and with waiting lists for social housing taking some years in places, they somehow have to find additional accommodation for those arriving in this country from overseas.
As of yesterday 13,000 have crossed the channel in small boats since Jan 1st this year and an unknown number would have come in via the ferries.
The figures for those having crossed the channel from the BBC South East yesterday evening.

Ha well we could explore the meaning of left and right wing forever and a day. But keeping it simple, it’s well established that the right wing usually support tighter restrictions on immigration and the left wing are the opposite to that. But I accept that the terms left wing and right wing may mean slightly different things to different people. I don’t mean any offence by citing the left wing. And I don’t take offence by anyone citing right wing. They both exist in a democratic society and they both have the right to exist. My view is that some on the left wing are too lassaiz-faire about illegal immigration.

They're voters who want lazy, good-for-nothings to get everything whilst taxing decent, hardworking people at 99% of their wages and taking their houses off them when they're old, to pay for care, whilst the immigrants get first choice of good housing stock along with feckless single mothers with 25 kids in tow. I’ve had a post removed and warned that I might be banned. I have no idea what it was, but they called it dog whistle racism. I’ve no idea what that means either, but having a black sister in law, two black nephews, my best mate is black, my daughter in law is Egyptian, my three beautiful grandchildren are half Egyptian and look definitely Egyptian, I have no idea what they’re on about. I had a similar situation with the mods, accused of racism, no explanation, and no apology from them either.
 
Looks like tha council are rightly fighting this, will require planning permission.

Not the right place for them given the safety concerns from police etc and right in the middle of the town centre.

An out of touch government with Blackpool again, well i never.

What's hypocritical? The term has been used in the USA since about 1800 and at various times has been used as a derogatory term for each of the following:

Someone yesterday said we have more than the rest of the EU combined. And surely its easier to get into Germany illegally than here because they don't have 22 miles of sea as a border.
 
According to Lancs Live, the intention to house refugees in the Metropole has been paused and there aren't any there yet.
 
The council have told Britannia Hotels that if they want to house refugees they will have to apply for planning permission for change of use and if they go ahead anyway they will be served a stop notice and shut down. Considering council don’t want these people here planning permission probably won’t be granted. Result👍🏻
 
The Blackpool Council Leader on 103.9 (summary): 320 approx AS's were supposed to be arriving on Friday. However, their occupancy of the Metpol hotel would mean a change of use from a hotel to a HOMO. So notice has been served on the owners telling them they must seek approval for the change. If they do apply, this will be refused. If they breach the legislation, the council will close the hotel.
Manchester are the lead authority in distributing the AS's and they initally said they were considering the Norbreck Castle (sister hotel of the Metpol)).
The HO hasn't given any detail or responded to the Blackpool Councils request for relevant information.
All partner agencies in Blackpool are united in their concerns.
The Home Office appears to have ignored all protocols and the many reports with regards to the existing deprivation etc in Blackpool.
 
It's obvious to me why Britannia Hotels wanted them to use the Metroplole Hotel.
There's scaffolding all the way across every sea facing room, which they probably wouldnt be able to let to tourists.

Which tourists would be happy to look out of their bedroom windows onto scaffolding.

Whilst I agree these people should be dispersed around the whole country and a fair share for all areas, it should be done with proper planning of suppport services and ongoing resources required and this feels like a civil servant has looked at a map with Britannia hotels and thought it would be good to fill a run down hotel with a couple of hundred. Out of sight, out of mind seems the policy of successive Governments when dumping problems on deprived seaside resorts. And it may have been more beneficial to have taken some of the Afghans

The government has shown unbelievable arrogance in attempting to bring 320 Afghan immigrants into the Metropole without consulting the local authority. Seems like the council has dug its heels in to block this. Shame really, as it could have worked if done properly. 320 people on the seafront in the middle of the Illuminations without discussing it with the council doesn't seem like a viable plan.

Clearly not thought through, out of sight out of mind.... put them virtually in the centre of Blackpool where you either have to go along the front to get to or through the centre, in a deprived town still in a busy holiday season, that'll be fine.

They are clearly clueless pricks who make these decisions and I'm glad the council have fucked them off here.

I dont think we know the make up of them do we? Just that they are asylum seekers.

Whether that genuine, or economic migrants or illegal, or indeed the Afghans.

Just no thought from the home office here at all.

Just watching Ambulance on BBC1. One of the paramedics is a former Somalian refugee, now with a thick Scouse accent. Another reminder how beneficial refugees can be to this country.
 
We’re footing the bill for putting asylum seekers up in hotels yet a report just published over the last 6 months shows the housing crisis is the worst ever known in the UK.
People are being forced to live in absolute squaller (ITV 10pm news) it’s just shocking to watch what conditions people have to live in in the 21st century.
I’am pretty sure if asked some of these poor people would swap places with the migrants who will have a dry bed/household 3 square meals a day and future support in getting in to a school/job and a permanent residence.
It’s just disgusting not putting our own
people first. 🤬

I’m sick of every road or roundabout project we have in this country taking 3 years and being manned most of the day and night by 6 million cones and empty unused diggers.
 
This hopeless Government gave the national contract for housing asylum seekers to the Mears Group. Problem is that they own very few houses. Councils cut out largely as its a direct award by Pritti Patel and her mob to a profiteering development company. Hence a problem. It's all about the way this Government does business
