How Not to Run a Football Club - Official Discussion Thread

Talked to several fans today, been following for years and have not heard about the book, maybe ask the club for a hand with suitable location to sell the book if you have copies. Always said this site has fewer members than avfft make out. Be good to hand out some comps to high profile people but wouldnt go overboard. Would email all other clubs chairman to have a read and expect Blackpools support if they start taking the michael. From messages on here I can see both sides, some stuff missed out, people not happy without getting a mention, at the time people sticking by things and in the book totally opposite. At the end of the day it gives a true reflection of what happened and I think that was the main point of the book to appeal for all. Well done Foggy.

I heard back from the publisher last night that they are ordering more books, which means they expect to sell out the first print run fairly soon. I'm delighted, and would like to thank everyone who has bought and read the book so much. Getting a second print run and cracking the top 500 on Amazon were my two goals. The book reached 180th on Amazon last week, and now the publisher is preparing for the 2nd print run just two weeks after release. Everything else is a bonus now.

I've requested a handful of changes, including the pesky missing full stop (a penny for anyone else who spots it) and deleting the error about away goals at Notts Forest. Also removed the bit saying Ollie went to Bloomers for his interview as it was Preston Marriott (although, he may have met them there to see the stadium first, I'm sure I got it from him saying it). Also, I reworded the BST being a driving force behind NAPM line to make it a bit clearer it had started before them and they eventually officially backed it, but I kept in that they became a driving force in backing it, as they did. Lastly, I reworded the probably clumsy wording that Tim Fielding 'secured a meeting in Latvia', I didnt mean to give him credit for what Stephen Smith did, but I think it comes across that way, so I just put that he flew over for a meeting.

Thanks to the eagle eyed readers who spotted these issues. What this means is the first editions you all have are now incredibly valuable and you'll be able to flog them on ebay for millions in a few years.

Have you corrected the errors Welsh Phil pointed out?

Was that the story about when United relegated us and you creamed your pants?
They didn’t and I desperately wanted Blackpool to win that game you absolute ** gobshite Whopper*

* albeit it’s a good job that didn’t happen or the Os would still be in charge you one dimensional Reet

You could always pm me 👍
Fuck it I’ll put it on here. It was what could be termed a circular economy. Money left the football club to be recycled through various intermediaries. We can all speculate on who the final beneficial party was and in what form the gain was taken. A lot of Geordie accents were heard upstairs though.

Ooh touched a nerve did I?

You must have been so passionate about it. Waving your half scarf from the Stretford End…

Who am I kidding? You’ll have been at home watching it.

I was doing a speech that day at my In Laws 50th Wedding Anniversary Afternoon Party in Blackpool and the second it finished I was in a cab to get back home to try to watch the last 20/30mins or so but as I left the building Pool were winning but by the time I got back they were relegated and I was gutted

So no I didn’t spunk my keks at all…..but you crack on if you want

Ant and Dec??

To be honest, while Sam asked for most of the abuse he got on Twitter, all homophobia disgusts me and I don't abide by it. I couldn't care less about peoples private relationships. Now, if that affects a player being brought in and playing, as rumours obviously suggest, then it's newsworthy. However, that would basically be impossible to prove even if a hypothetical relationship was proven, and would be libellous to print. Sam offered a no comment on the situation, Chopra didn't respond for interview requests, so all we have is hearsay.

Watches Blackpool for half a season on Match of the Day and wants them to beat his dearly beloved. You’re a joke lad.

Don’t get all aggresively defensive…you don’t know my tale and and your overly sharp response paints me as a homophobe which I am not

Yes, I thought you’d shit it 100% and come out with a benign nonsense defective statement ….You are clearly the bed wetting type that the internet has emboldened ….drop me out, I’m only interested in people of some substance not minor irrelevances/irritants

Good to know
I‘ll not DM you the tale though now as I have seen your immediate reaction; to a story you don’t know just because of the label “homo angle” ……you didn’t know what the tale was, what I meant, what the humour if it was etc…but immediately went defensive…..you need to give a little more latitude foggy before judging imho

I think your labelling of it was enough for me to want to lay out what I do and do not have any interest in hearing and I think you're the one getting defensive here.

The only bedwetter you know is Welsh Phil. You’re cut from the same cloth. Nothing is ever good enough for the pair of you which makes me wonder if Phil is a closet United fan. You’re welcome to take him to Old Trafford. It’ll be a nice experience for you both. Phil can probably show you around which end you’re supposed to go in as he’s probably been more times than you have. Someone else might be in town like Burnley. You can probably get attached to them too and claim the worlds first scarf that’s split into 3 colours.

And shit it? Like I’m supposed to be scared by a man that has the most beige taste in music. Black Flag? Really? You might as well have an Ed Sheeran shirt on mate.
Yes a Gran’s Box Room poster if ever I read one….what a total internet only existing Walloper Zzzzzzzzzzz

get yerself outta the Box room and go to the Pub with some real life people ya Whopper 👍

Been out with the grandkids today and got back to my copy. Can't put it down. The end of the court section when the sum was announced sent shivers down my spine. I was in the away end and we were stunned. Thanks @foggy you absolute legend
Thanks Herts. A few people have said the court chapter was their favourite and praised the way it was written. It was a tricky one to pack in sooo much information, much saved for that chapter, and do so in an easy to follow way (when Owen's web of companies and his money was probably intentionally built to be confusing), and then capture some of the fun fan stories, and emotion. So I'm very glad I think I pulled it off.

Well, I’m not even slightly defensive ….. for further info (this is gonna sound wank but is fact) I owned Bronski Beat’s first album that me and my sister played to death in 1984, Age of Consent ……when I was 16 and her 14…and we loved it, knowing it‘s full meaning.

Brilliant. Is that all you’ve got? At least I know where my loyalties lie. You can’t even make your mind up. Can’t stand half scarfers like you. The most pathetic of football fan.

Real “Manc” - supports United (and apparently Blackpool). You couldn’t make it up. I may live where I live but you’ll never catch me in a half and half Leeds and Blackpool scarf.

What's the story behind Age of Consent? Love the song, never really paid much attention to the lyrics or know anything about it (came out before I was born)

Me and my Sis had the album and it had on the back the ages of consent for homosexuality in a lot of Countries. I remember one was 14 years of age but the ages all varied

I couldn’t give a fuck what “you can stand” …..you can’t back up one person I know off here or I’m a monkey‘s Uncle…..you're just a Gran’s Box Room Fantasy Boy at best…..and at worst a knicker sniffer with a justified inferiority complex

The only thing “you know” off here is how to piss off genuine Blackpool fans, lad. I couldn’t give a fuck what you think either because you’re not a fan of the team I’m a fan of. You’re a Man United fan.

I’m Blackpool first and nothing second. Unlike you, you piss weak, Man United armchair “supporter”.

You’re like a little schoolboy who can’t make up his mind who to support because a different team won the league that year.

Additionally, you’re everything that punk is against. So that’s two things that you’re a “fan” of and their fan bases detest you. You’re not doing very well are you?

You sound like a primary school child. I’ll support whoever and whatever I want…..whenever I want

I’m racist and homophobic?…I think you have lost all grip on reality young fella

I’m detested by the fan bases of both Blackpool FC and Punk Rock…..yes in your immature imagination.

I was in court when Owen and Karl gave evidence so can relate to it so it’s my favourite chapter as well. What to leave out must have been very difficult but you sum everything up very nicely. The days at home continuing refreshing the AVTT page so well described by our court correspondents. Those days were highly entertaining indeed.
