Games you've seen in the opposition's home end

Will confess 10 years ago I was in the home end at the City Ground. My mate was a huge Forest fan and we got each other tickets for our respective legs - can't tell you how soul destroying it was not to even break in to a smile that night!! Funny thing was all the Forest fans were saying how crap we were that night and would never win a final.

Anyone else tried it?

Nope but I've been in the away end at Bloomfield Road. Went with a Watford fan in 1997. We score last minute for a 1-1 draw. I kept quiet.

Liverpool away Premiership season, couldn't get tickets in away end.
We still wore our Blackpool shirts and went crazy when we scored to incredulous looks from the Liverpool fans around us

Stoke away the match where Tricky Trev scored that last minute winner to spark off the locals . Really had to button it .

Millwall away with my old mate Born in the Fifties.
We didn't wear our Blackpool shirts and we had nothing to shout about in a 2-0 defeat.

Newcastle in 2010 when we got beat 4-1 fortunately there wasn’t a great lot to cheer about! Thought our season was going to fizzle out after that but very glad to be proven wrong!

Fulham in the 90's - cant remember if it was 93 or 94

Bit pissed, but my mate was worse, he got in, I didnt. Went in their end behind the goal. Lost 1 nil.

Burnley when their ground was being redeveloped. Preece's winner- that was one to keep quiet at.

Cods - few times. Cup game couldnt get a ticket and then refused to get one in the league during the boycott.

I've no idea how you managed not to celebrate the goals. I don't know if I could've prevented myself!
And any Forest fan saying we were crap and wouldn't win the final weren't being honest with themselves. We were utterly dominant that night, and the second half performance was as good an away performance as you are ever likely to see, from any club.

Swindon away many years ago when we won 6-2. We were with locals and just had a really good time and home fans weren't too bothered.
Premier League - Wigan and Arsenal away. Couldn't keep my gob shut for differing reasons. Wigan fans weren't too bothered. However, a lady at Arsenal reported us to the stewards after I lost it following Evatt's sending off. Some were OK though, especially one lad who'd been on the Liverpool Kop and fully understood.

Barnsley away in the FA Cup sometime in the 80s. Don't know how we ended up in the home end. Won 2-0. Early and late goals. Colin Morris I think.

Dumpdale, the famous Wes chipped penalty. I was in the dodgy plumbers stand👍

Ewood park, when supporting Villa in a FA Cup match. No Blackpool match on, so with the affinity to Villa through my Dad's side of the family went with 2 other Blackpool fans for a football fix. Got chucked out the Rovers end into the Villa fans!!

Gillingham away late 70’s. Aged 15/16. Me and a mate got a lift on a coach that was passing Bloomfield road. Coach had 20-30 handy lads on. All went in home end and we foolishly followed. Stan McEwan scored a last minute penalty equaliser and it well kicked off. We survived but it was scary. 9 hours back to Blackpool with a point and a story to tell our mates.

Preston kop end, cup tie in the 90's.
Left my ticket on the coach so managed a sneaky "fiver & in mate".
Could understand the logic of a suicide bomber whilst in there 🤮
Managed to get moved whilst showing my seasiders tattoo to a copper.

Bristol Rovers for a midweek night game at the Memorial Park where it was absolutely pissing it down. Lost 1-0 to an early goal I think but it was one of the best away days I've ever done.

Preston 1972. I got thrown out before the kick off and wandered around outside in the pouring rain until half time when a programme seller gave me his free ticket to the paddock(?). I had to stand their in silence and look annoyed as Ainscow scored a hat trick

Wigan away first PL game. Guest of a Wigan Supporting pal. Wish I had been with the Pool fans as I couldn't really
celebrate what was probably the most surreal first 45 mins watching the Pool.

Hereford Utd (80's) and Bradford City (just after the Trick Trev away win at Stoke)......Beat that !

Only once I think, Bolton away in the Prem we got freebies in corporate & were told not to jump up & cheer in the unlikely event of us scoring, DJ missed a few chances to win that game & had we done so late on I would have been up. Had some good banter with people on our table pre match & especially at HT where from memory we were in front.

I'm just rubbish at keeping quiet as my friends will confirm. 😁

I just couldn't resist going mad as the game was surreal, Wigan fans are crap and I think Baptiste's rather large cousin was a couple of rows in front!

Goodison Park in the Prem. Was sat in a corner right under the junction of two stands. It chucked it down for most of the game, and it was like a having a bucket of water continuously tipped over us all the time.

Yep, we were in front at half time and two up late into the game. They scored two wonder goals to get a point although to be fair they probably deserved a point. Still felt like two points dropped though because of the late goals.

Wimbledon 1983, lost 5-0. Last game of the season in Div 4 I think. Went in the pub by the ground early and got drinking with Wimbledon fans, ended up going in their end, had a top day apart from the score.

Bob Lord stand when the Cricketfield stand was being redeveloped. Trying to keep quièt but realised I was surrounded by other interlopers.

Everton in the Prem. We were in the block next to the Pool fans and soon realised there were loads more Pool scattered around us. The locals sussed us and were fine, Went mental when Charlie scored that header

Being in a wheelchair, bloody loads. In the lower leagues so many grounds who don’t have a disabled section in the away end. Off the top of my head.

Brentford, Luton, Portsmouth, Port Vale, Cardiff’s Ninnian Park (that was fun when Murphy equalised in the last minute).

Shockingly there’s a few teams you’d expect to have a disabled section in the away end that don’t:

Aston Villa and Ipswich two grounds I’ll never go back to. It’s 2020. I shouldn’t have to sit away from my own fans

Sat in the Stretford End at Old Trafford last game of the prem season. Slightly paranoid that the "locals" wouldn't appreciate us being in there but when I sat down and looked around there was at least 15 other Pool fans in there with us. When we went 1-0 up it was like a mini North Stand ! "locals" actually didn't care we were in there.

Think that list comfortably beats my Hereford Utd and Bradford City Athers 👍

I've been on the Stretford end in the sixties before segregation. we were winning until Law bagged two in the last minutes.

Bradford City in the first leg of the infamous play off. We went two up and I had to sit on my hands.

At a ground with the disabled section in the home end I’m deliberately more obnoxious. I remember. Brentford fans singing you dirty northern bastards when Clarke made a bad tackle. We won 3-0 and last 5 minutes I started singing 3-0 to the northern scum and the stewards told me to calm down. I told them no, I’m not being abusive, I’m cheering my team, not my fault your grounds shite

I think it was December 2007 and Wes Houlihane’s famous penalty in our 0 - 1 win. Awful weather conditions. So difficult sitting among the Preston supporters trying to pretend devastation. I remember being surrounded by a sea of glum faces as we left at the end of the game while our supporters were held back as they chanted to the heavens. My face gloomy; my heart singing.

In Preston home end when playing a Manx game as couldn't get in Pool end
In Bournemouth end when playing at Dorchester as couldn't get ticket for Pool end ...Hills scored ,,,Bournemouth missed Pen ,,,well had to keep quiet as Bournemouth fans were going mental ,,,

As Chelsea fan ,,,had to go in Man U end as mate I was with was Man U fan ,,,Chelsea won ,,,Mickey Thomas scored Chelseas goal !!

PNE when we got beat 3-0 around year 2000.. WPC failed to get me a ticket so I paid into the terrace on the side..

I left when the 2nd goal went in, couldnt stand in the middle of that lot celebrating..

The steward was a bit suprised when i asked him to open the gate the let me out of the 'this ** shithole'

Agreed - I know a disabled chap via my in - laws who has his own business advising clubs across the world on wheelchair/disability access to their stadiums. He has been to most of the big clubs and does very well for himself financially. But the first thing I thought was why haven't these clubs already made these arrangements? It is as you say 2020!

Carlisle away in 1996, think it was New Years Day. Last gasp winner sent us top of the league. My dad n me went berserk celebrating. Local fans not too happy, several making knife gestures etc .... then 4 fellow Seasiders come charging down from the back of stand n a few fisty cuffs were throw

Away v ManU. Feb 23 1957.
I was on training course in Manchester and went with other guys on the course, MU Fans.
We won 2-1. Goals Perry and Durie. 😁
My goal celebration was simple. 'Get in there.' Twice.🤞🤞

Ipswich allow you sit on the lower tier of the away fans corner i'm sure? Not quite with all the main fans but with other handicapped Blackpool supporters away from their fans. We accidentally had tickets for that section but they were nice enough to let us change.

I was in the Main Stand at Roker Park when we lost to the Mackems ; Boxing Day 77 I think. The infamous home game with Bolton was the following day, I seem to remember.

Also, Torquay AT HOME in the FA Cup, 1990. Didn't bother buying a ticket, thought I could just rock up and sit in my normal ST spot. Game sold out in the home sections.....

Northampton Town. We lived close by,my lads went to Saturday football there week, one of the coaches was a colleague, one of the ground safety officers was a colleague. Sat in the East stand, all travelling Pool at the south end. Behaved as I always do at the footy, apart from a couple of frowns, nae bother. Kids were most amused, they'd never seen me at the footy.

Yep, remembered another.
Won 3-0 at Newcastle in an early 70's night game in the Cup. Was down the side and Geordie fans were coming down the side to get in the away end. Not many Blackpool fans there that night from memory.

Mentioned on a recent thread re Vetch Field.Won 2 1 which meant we avoided relegation.Locals far from friendly.

Swindon Town .though most did get moved on before Kick Off( they Closed the gates on a full house) when we laid the foundations for our promotion back to the old 1st Division a few days later at PKE with a 1-1 draw as they were close rivals for promotion themselves..Think It fair to say that night at Deepdale Blackpool Fans occupied every bit of the ground given there were around 26000 of us there( another full house).
Definitely two games I Have very fond memories of.

On the Bradford Kop in 1996 when we won 2 0....Kind of shouted with delight when we scored, which I quickly turned into a gesture of anger !!!!
Was in the Nobbers Stand, right by our fans when Wes dinked the penalty.....Kept as quiet as I could.....a few mins before final whistle guy behind me suggested I left!!!

Port Vale in 1987, we won 6-1.

Travelled from Uni in Birmingham, had to walk from Stoke Station to Burslem as I was skint. Got to the ground and had to go in the home end as it was cheaper. The local skinheads weren't happy that day.

Sheffield United away 1979 - I was 19 at the time and drove myself and 3 mates there in my Cortina Mark 2.
It's not like the away end was full for a midweek game in Division 3 but being young and daft we somehow managed to go in the wrong turnstile into the home end.

Tony Kellow scored for us and after our initial reaction of jumping up and down etc. we thought better of it and kept ourselves in check for the remainder of the game. There wasn't too much danger of getting overexcited as they came from behind and beat us 3-1 😥.

My overriding memory from that game was having to listen to a couple Yarkies behind us constantly shouting "give it t'Alec" in Yorkshire accents broader than Amos Brearley and Brian Glover combined. I can't imagine that Alec* had any clue what they were on about

*Alejadro "Alex" Sabella - an Argentinian who went on to play for dirty Leeds but then had the good sense to leave and return home

I was also in the Bradford kop for this game . . . my girlfriends mate was from Bradford and got the tickets. Both times we scored she turned round and asked me in a very loud voice why I wasn't celebrating !!! Just about managed to get out in one piece!!!

Stretford End for the final Premier League game - stood up and screamed when the Charlie free kick went in but, being grey haired, nobody really bothered.

Norwich away when that lad we got from Hull whose name I have forgotten bagged a brace in a 2-1 victory and also when we got tonked about 4-0 a few years ago. My uncle is a Norwich legend so free tickets and into the lounge afterwards. Not an ounce of trouble from the home fans as they just cannot be bothered. Amusingly on leaving the ground after the defeat spotted The Rapist with his minder being abused by a few Seasiders , which was nice.

20s remember the time when we went to Rochdale years ago on a Devvy coach.
We had a few sherberts and found it was £8 in the away end and £6 in the home end and no queue so we went in the home end and the Plod escorted us to the Blackpool end.
The lads on the bus were still queuing outside when the game kicked off.

We lost 4-2.

Yep, remember it. Sure there seemed to be a couple of thousand Blackpool fans there but only gave the crowd as 1700 or something like that.
