BREAKING: Ethan Robson and Grant Ward have been released.

Options have been taken on Stuart Moore, Jordan Thorniley, Richard Keogh, Keshi Anderson and Josh Bowler.

‘Breaking news’ that Ward and Robson are leaving. 😂 yeh ok.

Thorniley, we’re definitely looking for a fee there. Bange the same so I’m lead to believe. Bowler, goes without saying.

Interesting Keoghs still around.
Thought Keshi had an outside chance of going. (Maybe he still does for a few quid) but happy enough he’s still with us.

Everything else a much of a muchness bring on the signings.

No surprises there, feel gutted for Ward, horrible injury. Good luck to all of them.

Kirk could come back of course, but not sure he will.

Keogh still to be around next season, seems sensible, the others all make perfect sense as Bowler will be sold as could Keshi. I hope we offer a new deal to Thorniley but it allows us to cash in if Oxford still want him and Critch doesn't.

Surprised by Robson to sell on, and Moore I thought would be replaced as third keeper by our youth keeper
Not seen Bange and Holmes so no view on their options but cheap

Keogh has been extended to allow us on the pitch if he scores.

TBH honest, there's a few names on there I've never heard of - but I don't have a FIFA 22 mindset.

Dujon would be nice as I rate him, but I think he can earn considerably more elsewhere so good luck to him.

Now the fun really starts

Sensible decisions. Grant Ward in particular has been unlucky, he's been an asset to us while fit and I hope he finds a good club. As said some of these options feel like they might be ways to extract a fee, however I'd be delighted if we kept all of the players concerned (I know we won't though).

Sad to see Ward go, a quality footballer without his injuries, I'm sure he'd have shone for us, but alas an understandable decision not to retain him. Hope he gets picked up by a decent club and back fit and playing. The rest as above, no real surprises, except maybe Robson, but possibly doing the decent thing releasing him so it's easier to get the situation he wants.

Only surprise is Robson. Would have thought exercising his option might have got us a small fee?
That was my thought as well.

Also, Kirk returning to parent club, does that mean that the club has decided against signing him, or is this just a negotiating position?

Either way, best of luck to all of them.

Damn shame re Grant Ward ..was a class above in L1 ..and had a great start this season...but injuries taken a toll. Best wishes, and would be a great asset if injury free to someone

Ward will need to prove his fitness to get a contract anywhere and you never know, that may be with us? Perhaps he will carry on training with us and working with our fitness set up. I suspect we will fill the space another way though. I wonder if we will try to negotiate a fee for Kirk, or has Critch decided against? Time will tell.

Thorniley, we’re definitely looking for a fee there. Bange the same so I’m lead to believe. Bowler, goes without saying.

Bange - was last on loan at FC United, wasn't he? Northern Premier League?
Seems a bit odd, we're not going to get much of a fee from a club at that sort of level.

Agree about Keogh. When that rumour about Derby sniffing around surfaced I thought that might appeal. Unfinished business and all that.
And he still lives that way, doesn't he?
🤞his legs hold out.

Thought Stuart Moore might have pushed to be released. He can't be on much, and he could do with first team action, otherwise he'll be well off other clubs' radar in 12 months time.

As said, shame about Grant Ward, got to feel sympathy for players blighted by injury, but it's a ruthless business and there are times that we have to be hard-hearted.

Hope the released kids get fixed up and can maybe bounce back. Look at big Marv for inspiration.
Johnny Johnston's a disappointing one, he seemed to have potential. But he's passed through Villa, Coventry & Wigan, they must have thought the same, so maybe he's just never kicked on as anyone hoped.

Did Robson and Ward have options? Really thought Ward was coming good, maybe it's a way of negotiating the contract on lower terms?

Small fee I heard from someone at non league level for Bange, all revenue at the end of the day I guess.

Think Keogh's a good lad to have around the dressing room for people like Tharme and Casey as this is going to be a career defining year for both I'd say.

Bids have been received for Grimmy, with Maxwell's future up in the air apparently, make sense to keep Moore on.

Hope we are allowing Ward to stay with us to get fit and receive any medical assistance he needs

Without his injuries, we wouldn’t have got him in the first place. Swings and roundabouts.

Shame about Antwi looked a good prospect when he got some game time the other pre season but sure NC knows best
He doesn’t always know best. He’s been trying to offload Thorniley for 12 months and he’s never let us down and now he’s taken up his option, I know it’s only so we will get a fee but all the same.

Sorry to see Wardy go. Will follow his career with interest. Hope he gets a decent club. Also sorry to see Dujon go back. Probably the last we will see of him.

I agree, our approach should be consistent. As said at the time, Virtue is a favourite of Critch.
It’s possible Ward was offered terms and chose not to accept. He’s also 3 years older, with an history of injuries.

I think we should make decisions based on individual circumstances and what is right for the club, rather than sentiment and being ‘consistent’.

We’re a football club, not a convalescent home

I’m struggling to see how Ward or any player would turn down a contract when recovering from serious injury. He would want to be training and being cared for by the club.

If you consider ability and potential values when fit, the better bet would always be Ward.

As for your comment about us not being a convalescent home, the lad suffered a serious injury playing for us. We’re throwing him out at the first opportunity.

I’m not disagreeing with you, I’m just trying to get my head around the difference in treatment.

Harsh but sadly true.

It's not out of the question that we may have told Ward that if he proves his fitness we could discuss a contract then, if there is still space in the squad, I guess. He's obviously not in a place where that is possible right now, which means he is unlikely to get a contract anywhere until he can prove he's fitness. He may have to sign a pay as he plays deal somewhere maybe. Harsh world, winners and losers and lots of bad luck stories. Talented footballer.

That's just an interpretation of the situation I think. They don't have exactly the same injuries and we don't know the longer term fitness prospects of the two players. The club does, or at least will have had detailed assessments done.

Ward came to us after a serious injury and leaves us after another serious injury. There's a clear difference between him and Virtue. Sad for him as an individual, but the club has to make a decision and I think this is the right one. I think trying to hold out for a fee for Robson would also risk us being stuck with him and he's shown that he just isn't good enough to contribute enough at this level.

Thornily is probably being kept on to try and get a deal sorted with Oxford over Brannigan.

It depends what we felt he was worth, based on his risk profile. His ‘pre-injury’ history is of limited consequence as far as his value to us now is concerned… So our offer might have reflected that and not met his expectations.

As far as who does or doesn’t represent better value, I think that’s the job of the manager, fitness coaches and owners to determine. I’m confident they are in a better position to judge than us 👍

Yep, he suffered a serious injury and we will have paid his salary and given him the required attention and treatment required to assist his recovery…. So there’s no room or need to be sentimental about it.

I’m not sure we really need to get our heads round it tbh TT. The club is run in a professional way and the judgement of those who are close to the situation will be sound.

In fairness I thought he could be hit and miss in any case.

It looks like space is being cleared in the squad to improve the midfield options. So hopefully we will see a bit of a re-build in midfield. Needs it really. Stewart, Virtue, Ward and Carey have all missed large chunks of the season, we've been carried by Dougall and Connolly and we need better attacking midfield options.
