That was my point about him playing against Southport, prove his fitness and the club might offer him a contract.
Not true.
He's had two bad, but unrelated injuries, that happens, but outside that he's a consistent 40 games a season player and not a Stewart type who can't seem to string together more than a dozen games without getting injured.
He's most likely been told by the club at the end of last season he isnt going to get a contract, but train with us over the summer and in pre season before you get a club. He wouldn't have wanted to play against Southport, pick up another bad injury in that and you're going the next year without pay.
No sorry, what you've put at the bottom is false, he's had more than two bad injuries, broken foot, ankle ligaments whilst at Spurs and while on loan, Cruciate at Ipswich and one bad one for us, so 4 major injuries at 27, he's missed 3 full seasons during his career but had a 3 year spell at Ipswich where he did do well for them in the Championship.
A smidge over 200 games in 8 years just over 20 games a year on average, that's just appearances, I'd be interested to see what his playing minutes are, not great I'd guess.
My point being, we're moving away from this type of player, the type we needed to sign in the years immediately after Sadler took over.
The way Ward has left the club, both looking after him but knowing we need to move on and improve, again shows me how well the club is being run these days, there are literally thousands of player we can sign, one of the things I find odd about this board is the hankering for ex players.
