We've recently failed in bids for Brannagan and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, and they both came straight from Prem academies/reserves. Shouldn't this be where we're targeting, in order to find the next gem? I know we have done for loan players, but could it be potentially more rewarding for the club? Bowler is a good example, and going further back we signed Wellens from Utd, Southern from Everton etc. The problem with signing players on loan is that if they do well, bigger clubs come along and snap them up (see Ballard and Simms).
I'm not sure it's an area we've focused on enough for permanent signings, especially if we're looking to make a profit in the transfer market in order to re-invest. Dominic Thompson is from a prem club of course, but with respect to Brentford, I'm thinking more about the reserves/development squads of Liverpool, Everton, City, United as they're on our doorstep. Dan Grimshaw is a good example of the kind of permanent signing we need to make imo.
