The loan market and our squad

Oh and hate to admit this but I agree with most of what Phil says in the OP.
This happened to me a few weeks ago and whilst agreeing with Phil can be unsettling it is generally nothing to worry about long term, it usually passes by the end of the thread.

I'd suggest plenty of fluids and an early night. If symptoms persist and agreeing with Phil becomes more commonplace there may be an underlying problem. For now take comfort in the knowledge that a broken clock shows the correct time twice a day.

I accept that some clubs have more than others and i accept that money has a significant bearing on how teams perform on the pitch. You seem to be suggesting otherwise.
No

I'm suggesting it's not just about money if it was Leicester wouldn't have won the Premier LG

Or further down the food chain Wrexham would have got promoted

It's about what happens on the pitch and I'm getting a bit sick of all this budget and money talk it means fcuk all when the whistle blows

It's just a lazy excuse to defend poor football

You said fuck all to do with money. Fuck all means nothing.

Occasionally a club plays above its budget. Like Leicester did, and like Luton and we did last season. Highest finisher of the 3 promoted clubs too.

It requires a lot if things to be done right including managdment and coaching of squad and individuals.

Obviously.

Yeah I know

Not a fan to be honest as they aren't our players and go back to their parent clubs

It's just moving the problem for another year

I know people will mention Forest and how they used good loans to get promoted but its cost them millions to replace those loans

I think maybe one or two are OK but we have 4 now with talk of another coming in next week

It doesn’t look like much forward planning to me

Btw I do like the look of Fiorini and the Arsenal kid, less sure on the nobber and the tall bloke from Wolves who couldn't trap a bag of cement against Reading

Anyway still need a right back ASAP and we still don't know if Bowler is going, for me keeping Bowler for another season is a better bit of business than any of the loans we have brought in

I'm starting to like the look of what Appleton is doing especially in midfield where he is trying to get more footballing players in the centre of the pitch instead of the Critchley defensive set up

Long way to go but hopefully a couple more in on permanent deals and we can kick on

Looking forward to Stoke on Saturday, will be interesting to see who starts
We need these boys to provide us with the talent necessary to compete until our premier league training ground is up and running
Once done we will rely less on loans
To get the sort of quality these loan guys bring to the club you are looking at many millions of pounds which need to be spent elsewhere at the moment to improve the infrastructure at our famous football club

Even when (if) the TG gets completed, we will still be competing with the big clubs for the talent and we won't be able to do that. An example which is 100%, is a club were interested in signing a kid from another part of the country. Parents and kid very nervous about him (15 I think ) moving on his own, so Club bought the parents a house (250k) near the Club non returnable whatever happened and found work for the father. He signed.

Then there are other clubs who no doubt will improve their facilities......

Definitely, we'll never compete with the big clubs for players. What we might get though is some lads choosing us as we would be smaller and friendlier and provide a likelier route to senior football. Which wasTrev Sincs reasoning all them years ago.

Some smaller clubs like Norwich have good success developing young players. Its interesting that Brentford sacked off their academy though. Cheaper and slicker to grab the best academy rejects age 16 ish possibly. It helps to have good facilities and good coaching whatever you do, to pull in and develop the players you want at whatever stage. Naturally.

think that needs a fair bit of editng. 😉

Never say never! I bet the likes of Bournemouth in 2015 never thought that give it 5 years and they'd be spending tens of millions on players and be richer than 95% of non-Prem teams. Went from nothing to mega rich in no time at all.

Personally I didn’t used to like short term loans, but season loans I’m basically ok with. It’s like signing a player on a 1 year contract who you know wouldn’t have come for a longer deal, so if you think about footballers as all contractors there are pros and cons. The key for me is that loans shouldn’t be a replacement to signing and maintaining a decent squad, they’re a way to add quality on top of a decent squad.

Prefer good signings on long contracts like anyone, but done right they can add an advantage IMO.

Could have sworn that something was mentioned pretty recently about potentially bringing in investors. I'm probably entirely wrong though or confusing it with something else I heard. 😆
You've misunderstood what was said.... SS said that the club needs investment - he meant that it needs money spending on the East Stand and the Training Ground. he was talking about his own investment, not involving anyone else.

A few people misunderstood Sadlers interview in the Gazette last week. Thought he meant investors.
Going off at a tangent slightly....

This really does highlight how careful the club need to be when it comes to communication... Especially when a vocal minority is out there looking for any excuse to be miserable.

Even a couple of the Seasiders Podcast Team seemed to have completely got the wrong end of the stick with this investment thing.

Isn’t it more surprising how Phil can twist our mellons any day of the week he chooses 🤣
Surprises me how he gets any work done 🤣
"Less sure about the Nobber" - that's shocking - sure that will create some titter on the training ground 🤣
I can see Theo Corbeanu becoming the new Gnando - moving like a baby giraffe on stilts but still banging them in for fun 👍

I think Corbeanu is more of a CJ Hamilton

First touch so bad his second is a header

Early days he might he ok, just thought he struggled on Saturday to even control the football

That Connor bloke seems to put them straight when required. 😆

I agree with most of what the club is and has been doing over the last few years. Which weirdly makes me a contrarian these days. 🤦‍♂️

Whilst everything the club said in the interview to Scrafton was correct I cringed a little bit that they did it in the first place. As you say you can clap back at every nonsensical opinion on here and Twitter.
Which as you and Voy point out is filtering to even more ridiculous ideas that we’re in need of outside investors.

Gave up with the Podcast a bit ago, I know you’re not allowed to say but it’s pretty boring and the young lads just use stuff like XG and ‘data’ driven analysis it’s just faux high brow football bollocks.

That Connor looks like one of these new football fans who has never stood on a terrace in his life, all stats and pivot charts
He does. Clever though. Understands things terrace types struggle with. Plays a useful role of pointing out their mistakes.

That makes more sense now 😂

Norwich is a county town, same with BHA. We are in the mostly densely populated football club area and on the periphery of that.

I've always thought the way to go was to pool resources with other local clubs, like Bolton, Wigan and Preston to create a joint academy. But, like you I think the way is to be at the cutting edge of released top academy players of an age. I'd put in place an academy liaison officer who's job it would be to cultivate relationships with the top Clubs so he'd know who is going to be surplus and can get ahead of the game in attracting them. I thought NC would be this, but the less said....

It worth thinking that not all releases from these clubs are because of lack of ability, it can be that the academy has, for example 3 flexible players for the RB slot and the guy shown the door is No 4, but maybe not as flexible even though he's more talented than the 2 LB's they have.

That's where I'd invest.

NC was head coach, how would he be a liaison officer?

Agree with you on this one Phil. Am excited about the loan players but am also slightly worried about the long term implications of having so many key players not belong to us.

In the short term it's great because we get extra quality that we can't afford, but in the long term next Summer we will have to replace those same loan players that were so key while our own players were not given time to grow.

It can be good for the club because we build a reputation with bigger Prem clubs that we are a reliable place to grow young players, but it is still to be seen if we sign permanent signings that can compliment those loans signings.

Am excited for the new loan players as they all look class, but really want to see us push the boat out for 2-3 permanent signings before the window closes.

Still need a RB, ST, and LW so assuming we have 1.2 Million laying around from the Brannagan attempt would like to see a good chunk of that used to bring in 1-2 of those positions of need on permanent transfers.

Still have time and am confident that the club are patiently waiting to get the right deals. 👍

The tall bloke from Wolves came on in the 83rd minute, my thoughts were I'd like a little more time to judge him to be honest.

I also think we had him playing just off the striker and he was looking lost roller skating around the pitch, because that little cameo wasn’t great touch wise.

I assumed his job was to try and trip Bowler up and put the scouts off... 🤣 🤣 🤣

Obviously needs time training with the lads and so impossible to judge I suppose, but on the basis of the other day, he looked completely lost.

Yep that's a good point we have gone young on
I think you have to take a step back and see how football has changed and is still changing. The top clubs cream off all the best young talent. They then loan them out for experience, and if they make the grade, then great. If they don't, they sell them for various amounts depending on how highly rated they are.
That means that even with brilliant recruitment and coaching, smaller clubs' academies are not going to have the best talent, unless they chance to unearth a rough diamond. So we HAVE to play the system and borrow and blood the best young talent out there - because if we don't, our rivals will.
agree TT but effective schoolboy scouting is the key to populating the academy with gems. We’ll know when we are on the right track in that respect when the Prem boys come in with five figure offers for one of our 10yo’s. As per Patino’s Luton to Arsenal move.

Think Williams is likely to be a regular although Keogh will be unlucky to lose his place who for me had a great season. Fiorini and Patino clearly have a great deal of quality and they are here to get game time at a decent level. That makes me worry for Carey and how much involvement he'll have. Corrbeanu, really don't know how good he is and how we can fit him into a system to get the best out of our other forwards.
Think the formation and tactics that Appleton favours rely on high energy and intensity. With the extra substitutions there should be plenty of opportunity for Carey, Virtue and Dougall to get minutes on the pitch.

I'm not negative at all

I didn't want Critchley in the first place and he just used the club

Tactics were dull and he made several questionable signings, it was only the willingness of the board to support him that got us moving up the league one table

Appleton is a far better person to take the club further and I think he will do
Just so I’m understanding this, you believe;

It was the boards willingness to support Critchley what got us those players and nothing to do with Critchley.

It’s now down to Appleton why we are getting these players in.

Make it make sense 🧐

Apter I think should be loaned to a L2 team, not non-league.
I agree. We need to treat Rob the same way as Arsenal are treating Patino. Ensure he gets a decent loan with a view to him being a full squad member for 2023/24 to step into the boots of this seasons loanees.
Jack Moore is a season behind Apter and probably wont get a League 2 club.

How much difference is there between L2 and National League? Not all that much AFAIK, but I could be wrong.

Is it worth sending him to NL until at least January, which gives the club more control, and maybe trying to get him a slot in L1 for the second half of the season?
