Manager for League One

Liam Richardson
Wellens
Stephen Schumacher should Plymouth fail to get promoted
Evans should Bolton fail to get promoted
Michael Flynn
Liam Manning
Simmo
Nathan Jones. The issue with Jones is I couldn’t see him dropping to league one and I believe he dislikes Blackpool with a passion.

We're Blackpool we can be different. What about a female manager? Sarina Wiegman Dutch women's national coach. Or Duncan Ferguson? Neither can be worse than what we've got. What you really need to do is assess your playing staff and find a manager that can play in a style that suits the nucleus of what we have. Otherwise, you end up with a bunch of misfiring misfits.
Duncan Ferguson was seen at the Bloomfield Rd after Appy was potted so either we were interested in him or it was "Bob a job" week and he was looking for work.

Nathan Jones for me - might not be everyone’s cup of tea but he builds bloody good teams on a budget. I think he might be tempted given we are similar to the project he had at Luton.
Maybe if by some miracle we stay up but he wouldn’t need to drop to League One.

Gary Bowyer/ Richie Wellens/ Rob Edwards/ Paul Simpson/ Ian Evatt... Nathan Jones/ Scott Brown/ Derek Adams/Steven Schumacher/ John Coleman /Joey Barton... there's 11 names for a kick off...all experienced at that level and could do a good job...
What for the first team to play 🤣 .

It really doesn't matter a toss who's suggested on here.
You just know that, whichever division we're in next season, Blackpool will appoint some random coach from the Croatian B league or Nigel Worthington 🫣

Karl Robinson for me. Did a fantastic job to me at Oxford over 5 years. Just over 40% win rate.
In 12 years of management his only achievement was finishing second in league one once with MK Dons. Appleton had a 45% win rate at Oxford, and 38% overall. Steer clear of Scouse-Corden. Saying that the club has wanted him in the past, so he’s probably nailed on.

Bit of a left-field suggestion, but Nigel Adkins? Still quite young, has actually had promotions from league one and championship, did well at Southampton and Scunthorpe, decent job at Hull that he left of his own choice, then had a rough time at Charlton, so has something to prove.

The bloke we missed out on last summer was Michael Duff who is doing a great job at Barnsley. We did talk to him - as understand it - but he didn’t get past the first round of interviews. We ended up with a Duff manager instead.
Agree totally. The selection process and criteria does leave a lot to answer for.

No Premier League team will touch him - failed twice at ‘big clubs, same goes for the big hitters in the Championship. He is best at medium sized clubs like ours and I think he might be tempted by a rebuild with a decent budget.
EXACTLY !!! You’ve mirrored my thoughts. we are PERFECT for him and he for us. Get him here Simon, pleeeease……

For me he is the obvious and no1 choice - do all it takes to get him. What I hope doesn’t happen is that we dick about for the first half of the summer searching for someone. The writing is on the wall and realistically bar a monumental miracle we are going down so we should be working now to get the right man in so he has the whole summer to re-build the squad

I wonder if they will go back in for the United coach, Eric Ramsay. Or someone of that ilk. Critchley has been their only successful managerial appointment so maybe they will try to replicate that by taking an academy coach or backroom staff from one of the big clubs.

It's unlikely that MM will leave before the season ends but there would be some common sense in appointing a new man now. They would have the chance of working with the squad and finding out who they'd want to keep for the new campaign.

Of course we're more likely to hang on to MM as long as possible, get relegated, lose several out of contract players, fanny about trying to snap up various managerial prospects until two days before the new season starts and then appointment Michael Appleton for a third time. 🙄

From a Luton fan: We are a well run club.
Perhaps Nathan Jones benefitted from this. Didn't do as well at either Stoke or Southampton.

Is there any Randy Scandy managers doing well in Iceland / Norway / Finland who fancy a stepping stone to the Prem and a nice project?

I wouldn’t be against a ground breaking Weigman style appointment either as she couldn’t do any worse than our last couple.

Failing that. Let’s get Brian Daboll in. New York Giants coach who has done amazing turning a team of crap underachievers into a play off team. Yeah he’s NFL but it can’t take more than a week to learn ‘hoof it upto big Gaz’…. By week 4 he will have grasped ‘pass it to a man in Tangerine’

Brentford have done very well with Thomas Frank and getting in plenty Scandinavian players. In the Championship that is probably doable, not so sure in League One.

An early appointment is vital. We need a good ‘shithousery’ manager this time - and there’s a few of them out of work.

If we don’t go that route, Schumacher would be a great option if he’d come. Especially with his mate down the road.

Absolutely zero chance of him coming here… none
Why no chance, he is out of work having failed for a second time at a ‘big club’. No Premier League club will touch him. None of the big Champ clubs will touch him so at best he is looking at a bottom third Champ club. Not many of those will change manager and none of the promoted sides will either you would imagine. So his options in the Champ won’t be huge, we are a project long term and with decent backing akin to what he got at Luton with a new training ground and new stand both on the way so we will be an attractive option I think. I feel we have a good chance of getting him and I think he would be a fantastic appointment.

Put simply…. Money. I agree we’re an attractive proposition but he’s just had a taste of PL wages and a Championship vacancy will come along for him. Also, just before we appointed Critchley, we spoke to him and he kept us waiting only for him to decide our training facilities were shocking and he said no. He may have burned his bridges with SS, but I just believe he’ll want more than we would commit in L1 if we drop.

That would be Schumacher who’s going up with Plymouth ????

I've no idea why we seem to have such an obsession over former players and former managers. We really need to be casting our net much wider.

The only name mentioned on here that I think would be an interesting appointment is Liam Manning. He's worked with u-23 teams before at West Ham so could help develop our younger players like Lyons and Carey, and he favours a style of play that I think would suit our squad. The only reason he struggled this year at MK Dons is because they sold a load of their best players like Scott Twine to Burnley, Harry Darling to Swansea and Matt O'Riley to Celtic for around £8m combined and didn't really replace any. He still has a 48% win record too.

Somebody we’ve never heard of so we don’t have to go through the whole love/hate/told-you-so process again

Flynn- Walsall players say he is "weird"
Richardson-Had to deal with him over a player calle Lee Molyneux - came across as gullible, although I hope tht he has changed his thoughts since then.

What about Pete Wild? 38 currently at Barrow.

Out of the names banded about so far Leam Richardson is an obvious choice, currently out of work so is available now and without compensation.
I would also be pleased with Richie Wellens that would be a show of intent from the club would cost the club money and not sure he would want to come to us from Orient? They will be in the same league as us next season and on an upward trajectory!
Thinking outside the box what about Stephen Bradley at Shamrock Rovers? A young manager, on his first gig at Rovers in the league of Ireland and managing one of the bigger fish in that league but has been incredibly successful.
Or David Martindale at Livingston, also on his first gig at the SPL’s smallest club in terms of support and budget, has got them punching above their weight against much bigger fish.

Is there any suggestion MM will stay on? Maybe feel disappointed he couldn’t get the job done but not his team and also limited with injuries! Managers don’t seem to want to retire these days, and who would on the back of a relegation?

Would we be happy if he did? He’s definitely be a decent L1 manager for me, so long as it wasn’t long ball shite week in week out!

Shame we all think we’re doomed with so many games remaining!

Leam Richardson did well at Wigan but he is more old school in relying on effort and set pieces as opposed to a Liam Manning type who instills a possession based philosophy. It depends on what kind of football you want to see.

Stephen Bradley is an interesting shout. I can't say I know a lot about him. David Martindale has done very well but I think his past would put many clubs off.

At the ripe age of 64 you think MM will change his philosophy and start playing free flowing football? Can’t teach an old dog new tricks my friend he’s stuck in his ways.

Daryll Clarke is my first choice. Got Port Vale promoted to L1 and comfortably staying up this season and that’s with a tiny budget.

Not a dinosaur, plays good possession based football and would hope will be edger to step up and coach at a bigger club.
