Critch (rightly) questions FA integrity

I do not think the integrity of the competition is in question tbh. Not even sure what he meant by that. He needs to be careful what he says. Both sides had VAR in one game, and not in the other. You can debate whether that should be the case, but it's not about integrity. I don't think.

Of course he's right. The first game was officiated in a different way from the second.

I think he picked the wrong reason to criticise the FA though. Pointing out that they have spread round 4 over five (is it?) days would have been safer ground. It diminishes the excitement and forces loyal fans into very difficult and very inconvenient travel. If they don't value their own flagship competition enough to protect its character, why should anyone else care about it?

The revenue from selling coverage of a Friday night game to overseas TV channels is obviously the most important thing to them. It's a business model innit?

Challenging that would achieve nothing, I suspect.

So here’s the crux of the matter.

Over saturation of football on the telly has taken away from the excitement of the game and The FA Cup.

It’s a sad state of affairs but will never revert back unfortunately.

I’m glad there was no VAR. It was a much better game for it. NC is just having a moan because we didn’t take them to pens. Goal looked alright to me. He should save his complaints for when we have a genuine grievance

I think it's about the money people moving in. The game is run by and for financial interests now. The FA and the EPL are financial interests, as well as the owners of the bigger clubs. Decisions are all about revenue.

Completely agree on the point basilrobbie makes. If the FA wants to prioritise selling TV rights to the point where games are on Thursday Friday and Monday nights then that’s their prerogative. And our prerogative in return is to say “fuck that, I am staying at home” which would have been my decision if we had played at Bristol C.

That's maybe the fifth offside goal we've had given against us this season, while we've had two apologies from goals chalked off that should have stood. The standard of officiating is atrocious. Linesmen never make a decision and serve no purpose. In most cases they flag for throw ins on the refs signal. Weak.

Their utterly useless and have become pointless, we'd be better having a referee in either half to officiate the games.
