Central League action.

You would think that Finnigan will get a game, but are we allowed to play Sassi whilst he is on loan at Rochdale? I see he isn't getting much game time there!

20mins
Pool break through Jibran to Dannen who gets to the dead ball line and crosses for Zak Emmerson to head home. A bit against the run of play tbh but Bolton haven't had any real chances.
0-1

An enjoyable afternoon in the sun watching 2 young sides playing football on a very decent surface. The Eddie Davjes training ground covers a large area and there must be at least half a dozen grass pitches along with a 3 or 4G one outside and they look to have bought a new "dome" (yet to be inflated) to create a 2nd indoor artificial pitch. That should get them Category 2 status for their Academy assuming all the other criteria is met.
These things are usually agreed beforehand (unless it's Preston) but we appeared to hsve been well matched with Bolton today with our young squad of 14 comprising of 3 Dev Squad, 7 u18s and 4 u17s. No sign of Jack More, Jake Finnigan, Alex Lanshear, Donvan Lescott, Josh Miles and no sub keeper on the bench either
We started with a back 4 albeit with 3 CBs and took a deserved 2-0 lead at HT through 2 Zak Emmerson goals.
Word reached Critch at HT and we reverted to a back three in the 2nd half (only joking it was due to injuries to Josh Nyame and Johnson Opawole).
Pool probably created the best opportunites in the 2nd and despite a nervy ending held one for the win.
It was a really hardworking performance from every player in the squad and those that played the full 90mins did look to be running on empty at the end.
If I was to give a MOM I'd probably give it to Jibran Ahmed.
i don't think Critch was there but he sent Banksy as his spy.
Also spotted was Terry McPhillips. (Google tells me he's currently Chief Scout for Forest Green but that might not be up to date)

Cheers for this, you’re doing the lords work

Sassi played the full 90 tonight in a 2-0 defeat at Barnet. In midfield!

Jibran looks like he could be some player, from what I've seen of him over the last season or so.

Thanks as always Insy. I really intend to watch more of the lads, unfortunately they often play at times/days I can't make.

I'm as eager as anyone to see some of them become first team regulars. Some of the names, especially in the Dev squad, seem to have been on general radar for several years now. In reality it's probably 2, but even so there never seems to be much opportunity for them, apart from 1 or 2 getting time in a Freight/Sherpa Whatever game. I'm thinking particularly of the likes of Tayt Trusty, Luke Marriette, Jack Moore, Will Squires, Brad Holmes, Jake Daniels.

I'm guessing all these lads are 19-20 now? Website doesn't give ages, but they all signed decent length pro deals anywhere from 2021-23. Some of the deals will be expiring soon, we could lose them without ever really seeing much of most of them. What's your humble and personal opinion on how close they are to 1st team league action?

Think Tayt Trusty broke his leg. Personally I thought Jack Moore was a great prospect

Tayt might be setback after his leg break in the BSM game, which is gutting.

Rest I think are on loans or have been this season. Will assume assess in the summer.

Some difficult questions so I'll try and avoid the tough one with a couple of facts.
Jake is a 1st year pro, Tayt, Luke, Will and Jack are the same age group and are 2nd year pro's, Brad is a 3rd yr.
I'm not sure of the contract position for the named players but you can probably find the answer on TransferMarket or a similar site.
Jake being the most inexperienced probably needs another season at least.
Tayt did indeed break his leg so he might get a recovery season.
Luke and Will are out on loan but Jack Moore, somewhat inexplicably in my view, was brought back from Chorley in January.
I think Jack is quite highly rated.
Brad still has a bit to do.
Finally Taylor Bowen (still an U18) was my "one to watch" but got a bad injury and I think it's unlikely we'll see him this season.

What's happened to Ryan Finnigan? Is he still injured or just not being played?
Critch doesn't like his boys playing for Dobbie 😉.
He did play in a behind closed doors game (as did Sassi) against Blackburn a couple of weeks ago and scored. 👍

Strange isn't it how two of our deadline day signings are now cleaning the pro's boots.
Smoke and mirror from the club bringing in players to make headlines rather than bring in the one or two more players who could have pushed us over the line?
