Best/Worst Football Nickname

I'm tempted to save the Coasters is the worst nickname as they're not even on the coast. But I'm going to go with Pompey as the worst and Saints as the best
 
Pompey is what the royal navy call Portsmouth, so it's at least a nickname that has a meaning. Teams that adopt a nickname after the colour of their shirts, when at least ten other sides play in the same colour, must be the most boring.
 
The Grecians for Exeter City is a good'un

Thought there would be a more interesting story behind it, but they're not even sure where it comes from.
 
Like: The Pirates - Bristol Rovers (reflecting the Maritime history of Bristol), is a great name and the badge is good too.

I don't like their 2nd nickname of the Gas - that stinks!
Worst: Has to be the Dirty Nobbers.
 
To be fair, “The Shakers” for Bury is decent. The club's nickname—"The Shakers"—was first used at the 1892 Lancashire Cup final against Blackburn Rovers. Before the match, J. T. Ingham, the club's chairman manager, reportedly inspired the players by saying: "We shall shake 'em! In fact, we are the Shakers".

Nothing to do with the Shakers religious sect.

Yes,they were right next to old Eastville ground .I used to go fairly regular when I was "courting" my wife back in the seventies
 
Arsenal is an interesting one. original known as dial fc . twenty workers from the Woolwich Arsenal formed a works team . So thats where the Gunners comes from. Worth a look on Wikepidia. Loads other stuff concerning the original munitions works .
 
The awful ones that stick out to me are the ones where no effort or thought has been made. The U's Colchester and Oxford. The O's for Leyton Orient for example, how uninspired. A seemingly new one that grates on me is the Tics for Wigan. Reminds me of a rancid itchy dog!!! What ever happened to the Latics?
 
Our crest is hands down the best in the world and that not even bias.

Worst nickname I reckon… The shrimps.

Gunners is pretty dope.

Monkey hangers is hilarious
 
Knob End fans call us The Lashers and think that it is clever but I couldn’t give a flying fook at their nondescript ‘insult’.

Wycombe? The Chairboys….riiiiiiiiggghhht.

Lots of Scottish clubs especially in the junior leagues have brilliant names anyway . Caledonian Locomotives , Civil service strollers , Yoker Athletics known as Whe Ho and Kilbirnie Lakeside side known as the Blasties
