Northampton v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 12.03.24

Get in, freezing cold, boring ground but loved that win.

I swear you lot will never be happy. We don’t play any worse a brand of football than any of the top teams barring perhaps Peterborough. It’s L1 ffs
That’s the sort of away result/ display that we’ve needed more of all season… a few more of them and we would have been sitting pretty

Great 3 points, really needed that.
The team were solid, managed their energy, great possession tactics.

We have some players that can score from outside the box, they need to step up rather than rely on Dembele to create … mix it up.

In a position where we can’t be dropping many points we have won away on a bobbly pitch in a dead atmosphere. A 2nd clean sheet in a row and 4th league win in 6.

I had Northampton commentary on and they were very complimentary about our defensive strengths, team set up and game management. Said that we basically stopped them from playing forwards all night. Funny that people with a vested interest in the opposition can see the qualities we have when some of our own supporters can not.
I had the Cobblers Comms on too and they were realistic about Northampton being very much solid , middle of the table , not getting relegated from league one and us having been well organised defensively and a quality team at this level.
We re 7th and still in the frame . Oxford have probably gone now and Stevenage wobbling very nicely . We keep doing what we're doing and... Who knows. Football eh? It's a funny old game

Lincoln are far and away the best side in the division since they decided to import half of the Irish league. Jack Moylan, Danny Mandroiu, captain Paudie O’Connor and Dylan Duffy have changed their play completely.
I was just looking at their form and they are the form team in last 6 and 10 games. Haven’t lost since getting beaten by us on New Years Day and scored 11 in last 2 games (5-1 v Barnsley and 6-0 v Cambridge)

A few very good results and in great form, but form can change.

Stevenage have actually equalled our form since we lost to them in early February. They are grinders. a typical, horrible, Evans team.

We were always the superior side but I worried that the morgue like atmosphere and boggy pitch would eventually effect the outcome. But job done although we have a tendency to drop our levels when we play some of the lower quality opposition which needs addressing.

That pitch was woeful. Over the moon with the 3 points but that chance from Gabriel at the end 😖
Oxford slipped up in style as I expected.
1 point off playoffs… happy. 🍊

Finally I watched a game where our defence looked solid. It didn't matter we were pretty awful going forward because I never felt like we would concede. That back 5 is by the far the best defence we can pick. Casey was fantastic stepping in for Husband.

Special mention to Coulson as well. Great performance both in defence and attack. Byers as well makes the team tick. Hopefully the injury to Norburn isn't too bad as need both of them.

Good win. They were bad but then again I also thought they were bad in the reverse fixture and we only drew that. We didn't look like conceding today. We have improved somewhat. Marv and Coulson very good. Grimshaw's distribution and all round competence very welcome!
Lost it.

We've been quietly improving for a couple of months now. Three clean sheets in a row, beaten Posh and Bolton and a point with ten men against Portsmouth. And considering the criticism for our away results (which have been justified), that's 3 wins in 4 away games now.
As mentioned above, the difference has been our defending which has improved massively lately. The defenders are getting better protection now due to Byers in the middle who has made a big difference, and the wingbacks are physically and mentally stronger than the one's we were putting on the pitch earlier in the season.

In my opinion, if we're still within 3 points of 6th place after the Derby game on 29th, then we have a real chance.

Just home. How shambolic are our roads by the way? Insane amount of road works.

Shit game. 3 points. Coulson MOTM. Casey and Marv massive.

Byers is a shithouse and I love it.

Neil, make subs earlier it easily could be 2-3 instead of clinging onto 1.

Funniest and strangest chant I’ve ever heard at us tonight.

“Premier League and you fucked it up.”

Peculiar stuff.

Into Wigan on Saturday backed by over 2,500 of us please.

I will take a win like that from now till the end of the season. What I saw of it, due to the black screen and freezing from TTV, showed a workmanlike performance from a team that had had a very hard game on Saturday. We controlled the majority of the game, made them look rubbish and by all accounts should have had a second goal, I thought it was in. I would rather be boring Blackpool who win games than terrific Tangerines who lose them.

Well done to them all, and a special well done to those who made the trip with horrendous travelling conditions apparently.

Traveling on our motorways is a nightmare 🤨

Taking nothing away from our win but Northampton were probably the worst side I have seen this season. Weird as they looked quite good at Bloomfield.

I notice Kieron Bowie wasn’t cupping his ears like a hard of hearing gimp last night.

Disgraceful celebration from him at BR last November.

I can't even see the ball on that fuzzy photo 😂 anyway we won ugly very ugly. At this point a win's a win.👍
Try this one. It's mostly obscured by Dembele's hand but it's over the line for my money.
