Has it always been like this?

I seem to remember in the championship under Critch we definitely spent a lot of time going from Keogh to Ekpiteta to the full back then we’d run out of ideas to get it forward and Maxwell would just lump it. We relied a lot on Bowler or Keshi doing something individually brilliant. Wintle and Dougall would play the safe ball back. Now we have Norburn to do it. Same problems now, unless Dembele does something, we’ve no chance of scoring.

Kinda, yeah , the football was always pragmatic in the championship season but we accepted it because we understood we were trying to compete at a level where we were overmatched.

In that 1st season back in the championship what impressed me was critch's ability to change the system to suit the opponent. I mostly would be upset with the line up but he mostly proved me wrong tbf. I think his experiences since have ruined him as he's become ridiculously stubborn and inflexible.

I've tried really hard to get behind him but we're going nowhere with critch I'm afraid.

At some point we have to transition from allowing Critchley to play at being Pep ad infinitum and start demanding he gets more out of what he has or he’s out on his ear. He should be given have a hard target of at least 5 wins from the first 10 games next season and I’d tell him that now was so he can start properly re-engineering things rather than coast to season end and then play the “time to gel” card for half a season.

We got lucky with Embleton and Simms - this January we got Sassi and Finnagan!!

We need to get more players forward so that there are options upfield instead of the easy backwards or sideways pass.

Yes, even in that first season in the championship we were short of a play maker and centre forward.
With the team we had it was a great achievement to stay up.
Keogh and Sterling were also big players for us.
We needed to bring in more quality for season 2 and we didn’t.
Same has happened in the transfer window for this current season, hence we are where we are.
