Have just received my renewal figure for the car insurance from Direct Line, in which I do around 3,000 miles a year.

Last year it was £320.

This year they were asking for £530. That is with 9 plus years no claims ( my last one was 15 years ago).

Just been online and signed up with the RAC £335.

It pays to shop around 👍

Very similar in price increases my Mrs has just been quoted by her insurer.
A quick 5 minute on line search and she can get it for £200 cheaper.
As above it most certainly pays to shop around.

It really pisses me off when your current insurers quote you a new price higher than you already pay, so you shop around and get a lower quote and contact them to inform them that you are cancelling and all of a sudden their price drops significantly. I fear it is a scam ran by insurers where they rely on folk just automatically renewing and not looking around as advised ....

Actually I’m surprised at the differences being mentioned. Faced with a big hike I did shop around in January but found most quotes in the same ball park, including the RAC.

I can never understand why I buy a car for say £20k, a year later it’s worth £15k, yet insurance goes up.
I moved house late last year from FY5 (Thornton) to FY6 (Poulton) I’d just had my insurance renewal notice though the week we moved so once we had moved I informed them (Hastings) of my new address details and they wanted another £180 just for moving around 4 miles.

When I questioned it they told me it was because FY6 was a much more higher risk area than FY5 which is complete blocks. 🤷‍♂️

Needless to say I told them where to go robbing bar stewards as the thread title goes.

Before my renewal I did the usual comparison checks. Nothing under £500 including my present insurer. Bit of a shock then when the renewal notice came through at £300.

This is their explanation for the increase after I'd told them to do one.

'There are lots of factors which go into calculating your renewal premium. Some are specific to you and your personal details however, we also look at what's going on in the industry and beyond. This could include external factors like the increasing current cost of parts and labour if we need to repair your vehicle. We are unable to give the exact details of how we calculate our prices as these are business sensitive though we do aim to be as competitive as we can'.

OK I understand they have to be competitive, but having taken my money for a number of years and not had a claim. they have done very well out of me, but that obviously doesn't count. Cutting ones nose off to spite ones face comes to mind with that explanation. Bye Bye Direct Line.

The most annoying thing when renewing car insurance is once you have your quote you go on line and check other insurance companies prices.
Hey ho you often see your own insurer offering a cheaper quote than they’ve actually offered you. 🤷‍♂️

I'm not surprised, Thornton was always much nicer than Poulton 🤣

Had the same problem with direct line in March when Mrs TOON received the renewal letter. Price had nearly doubled for her run-about, driving 3000 miles a year with full no claims. Phoned them up and told them to shove it ! Not surprisingly they said oooh hang on a minute let's see if we can lower that price for you. We took our daughter (30 year old and been driving since she was 18) off the policy as a named driver and low and behold the new price was LESS than last years.

Daren't think what mine will be this year.
No claims for many years, but at my age I think I'll suffer.
Just had a few days to visit old friends in Norfolk. No problems.
My car is 1000c.c. but it's very refined. Hyundai Bayon.
At my speed, I drive at about 62/3 MPH.
Mileage per gallon was 61+ mpg for the drive home.
Did 275 miles yesterday. Left at 08.00 and home at 14.30.
BTW, MrsDP does not drive.☹️

You have to blame those villains from the Thatched house.
Seriously with all the house building there recently bound to be a flood risk
