....did well in PMQs today, joking about home ownership by way of a self-parody. She also made a few good hits at Tory housing policy. Actually, when she and OIiver Dowden go toe to toe it's usually good natured banter.

She came out swinging that's for sure.
The whole thing is a rather depressing spectacle, tit for tat jibes from both sides rather than focus on the good of the country.
Mahri Black made a good point about the mass graves in Gaza that was swatted away by Dowden - he is very naive if he trusts the Israeli government to investigate their own (what could be) war crimes impartially.

If Rayner becomes Prime Minister that will be a greater achievement than having a muslim Mayor of the greatest city on earth and a muslim first minister of one of the greatest countries on earth

You do realise that in recent years this country has also had a Muslim Home Secretary and a Muslim Chancellor of the Exchquer?

Both Tories.

She was a bit too generous to Sunak by calling him a “pint-sized loser”.
More like “half-pint”.
I’m not sure that approach is the wisest? She’d lose it if described as a giner or a pale faced red head.

Plenty more easier abuse of the muppet in chief than body shaming

I must just also qualify this by saying I have a real penchant for red heads. Absolute hotties!!

Superb performance, we need more Northern working class women in politics, particularly with her skillset. Barbara Castle was a rarity back in the day, we need more like her.

I see Private Eye are running a story that the Chief Constable of the GMP spoke at a very right wing libertarian conference last year. He was also proposed by the Tory, James Daly, who cannot answer what Rayner has done wrong despite reporting her, as new Met Police chief, on the back of his anti woke speech at said conference.

Yup, looks like fair and due process

The most shocking part of your post is calling London the greatest city on earth🤣🤣🤣

….… bet that’s what Boris thought when he realised Sue Gray had been appointed to investigate Partygate….😉

You'd have thought by now that a Blackpool fan would realise suing people is usually a spurious defence/bullying tactic and wouldn’t use it as an example to justify their bias.
Think Gobby is ace. Parliament would be a great loss without her.

If bias was directed towards moi, no bias, just an observation.

Is that the same Private Eye that repeatedly gets sued for the information it prints?
Wizz beat me to it, they rarely lose

Anyway, enlighten me, which bit is untrue? There is video of him speaking at said conference. A matter of record that Daly supported him for Met Chief. Nothing to see here apart from the usual deflection of the desperate.

Once again, the Rayner thing rumbles on and on, while the news that Rishi made millions for his hedge fund by lumping on Moderna shortly before they got the covid jab contract is ignored by most of the media. I'm sure the fact he was Chancellor at the time meant he knew nothing of the upcoming contract...

A good point, and its not the first instance with Politicians 'feathering their nest', albeit very noticeable with this Government which truly pisses me off.

Saw a clip on FB of this exchange and I'm in 2 minds.

On 1 hand she's been very quick to attack others so it was funny seeing here squirm a little.

On the other we've had what seems a never ending list of scoundrels from the tory side upto no good and it was a little bit cringe watching them jump on it, even if its deserved.

Politics eh, all like a bunch of kids in there.

Surprised nobody has mentioned she was in Durham as that is what the right wing lunatic fringe seems to be focusing on as they know they are losing their onslaught

Telegraph: Angela Rayner set to be interviewed under caution amid council tax investigation

Angela Rayner is expected to be interviewed under caution by police in the coming weeks over which of her two homes was her main residence.

Greater Manchester Police are understood to have contacted Labour’s deputy leader to arrange an interview at a date and time to be agreed by both. The interview would almost certainly be conducted at a local police station in Manchester and Ms Rayner would be questioned under caution.

I wonder why the police might want to interview her under caution, it's certainly OTT for a couple of thousand quids worth of CGT, likewise, a few hundred quids worth (if that) of council tax wouldn't normally attract this sort of attention.

I wonder if they're investigating something more serious?

Interview under caution means bugger all, I've done it with the HSE for example, it just means they think you might be guilty of something, like every other police interview.

Jesus Christ. I hope nobody ever has to reply on your judgment and open-mindedness.
Okay, more formally, they have reason to believe that she is guilty of an offence that is substantially more serious than anything that has been speculated about in the media so far.

I think I know what it is, it explains her somewhat "unusual" living arrangements, and if I'm right she's looking at actual jail time.

The gmp must think they have enough evidence to warrant an interview under caution. it wont be a fifteen minute job either. taped interview probably for quite a long time with probably a senior detective. i just hope she gets a top brief. She might just well need one.

Insider trading?

I think there might be something in it. If there is and she falls on her sword then it's a massive waste of a true public servant. Whilst the Tory benches are groaning with those who believe it's better to be taken for a sheep rather than a lamb, Rayner's career may go west for the sake of a couple of grand. A loss in a world that condemns through Twitter and doesn't care about the harm that's done.

I've had a laughing emoji reply from @Lost Seasider but that's OK, cos he's a tool. No offence Lost.

The laughter was because you think it's "a couple of grand", whereas I think the amounts involved are many times that, and are much less acceptable than a bit of tax fiddling.

Time will tell, but if I'm right, she's looking at six months to maybe a couple of year's bird.
If you're right. I will not oppose you.

I would be very, very surprised if she went to prison. My prediction is that there is probably nothing to see and that Lost will eventually have to find another interest to fantasize about.

If she has to resign would she be another victim of the blob, or does that only apply to Conservatives who get ousted?
