I agree with your team. Ipswich regarded Garbutt as a left wing back/ left sided midfielder rather than an out and out left back.
 
I wouldn’t be annoyed at this team. I agree what you’re getting at with the wide midfielders he can’t start those two after yesterday, not exactly overwhelmed with who we have to replacement but hopefully that’s rectified in this window.

Wouldn’t be surprised if Ward or Dougall are rested, I feel like we can interchange those two and Robson without weakening the side which is good.

A bit short on pace down the sides but a left footed crosser on the left and a right footed crosser on the right with Virtue coming inside to give Gabriel some space. Looks good on paper, just a shame they play of grass

I’d keep Turton and Husband, with Gabriel and Mitchell wide mid. I’d like us to get at them early. I do though think he may start the same team, perhaps Woodburn might come in for Bez.
 
I'd put Ward on the right and bring Virtue or Robson in to Midfield. I'd also give Turton a rest and Husband.

I think we have to play Garbutt for his set plays, if Woodburn goes back I would try him as left wing, if Woodburn stays I would play him in place of Husband.
If we are going to stick with 442 I’d give Gabriel a go on the right wing, Lubala looks far more comfortable on the left and Kai Kai used off the bench for impact till he finds his form.

I like that team but if Critch actually plays it I'll be amazed. He's obsessed with inverting wide players as insider says, to be fair seems to be the style with many managers.

I think Gabriel on the right would be a great call, Garbutt on the left equally so, though I've been sceptical till now, I think he's the best option there. Get it wide, get around big Gaz and let the goals rain in.

If it's not working husband tucks in to a three at the back take off turton, Sullay drops into the hole behind the front two and the wide lads play wing back and go shorter through Sullay and give them a different test.

Plan a + plan b. Balanced and attacking both

We need to take the game to them and do it well. No point sitting off them cos they won't leave space.

He's got Gabriel in front of him. Or do you mean Teddy Howe? Howe and Gabriel could both play. Who needs defence?

I’d be happy with that selection, now whether Kaikai & Lubala can force their way back & make an impression is something else. That said NC will probably start them again 🙄
 
This one will not be a goal fest, and the first goal will be crucial. With Madine at CF, one wonders at Pool’s inability to cross from either side, onto his head. Our set pieces are a disgrace for a professional football club.

I know Garbutt is supposed to be a dead ball specialist, but we have not seen much of that yet

Yeah, I think the problem is, if we want players wide, the attacking wide players aren't really doing it or aren't really wide players.

I do think Gabriel might actually be the nearest thing we can find to CJ cos he does like a run and is quick. Similar with Demi but I'd keep them on their own flanks cos I think it's asking too much to ask them to invert as well as play further forward

I'd also be tempted to see what Ward can do wider with Virtue in for him though I think that's more suited to an away game where you are looking for solidity.

I think ultimately it's quite hard to put a team together that looks like it could take them apart without changing formation. A solid side, yeah, no worries but one to really take it to them is harder.

I would like to see both Virtue and Robson getting forward to support the front two with Ward and Dougall more defensive and running things in the midfield.
 
Just listened to Critchy's pre-match.
Injuries from Saturday to Ballard (hip), Ward (slight hamstring) and Lubala (ankle). All still being assessed but Neil says he's hopeful they will be fit.
Just to confuse SeasideKurt even more 😉 we could end up playing 5 FBs if those three don't make it
