Portsmouth v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 20.02.21

I can only think this pitch is frozen solid, the way they're all falling over on every occasion.

Chizzy All fall down must be being constantly used.

HT: Portsmouth 0-0 Blackpool Bit of a battle. Jerry Yates came closest for Pool with a blocked effort early on. Home side had three good chances to force the ball home from a set-piece, which is their most obvious threat.

Bit of a loss of composure on the ball as it went on, all those 'fouls' didn't help, but for me we need to improve our passing but I dont see signs of it improving really.

A bit too much few passes along the back and maxwell launches it.

It's a pleasant change to hear some proper commentators even if the are biased to Pompey.

Pompey were getting stronger and were well on top towards the close. Neither Sims or Yates were able to get on the ball much and Sims got himself yellow-carded after showing his frustration.

We need to come out fighting at the start.

The sunshine was nice. Looks like a 0-0.

fairly even until the last 5 minutes when pompey strted to gaina a bit more possession. we still look pretty solid though. not a great deal of space for Kaikai to or sims to exploit.

ref is an absolute shocker again, the booking on simms WTF was that for. and the Portdmouth CHs have been kicking and pulling at Simms the whole game

What like they are saying now?

Garbutt should have been sent off!

Rubbish

Agree, even there commentary felt sorry for him

Although the yellow was a farce, I can see Simms getting a red card here. Showing a lot of naivety whilst on a yellow, going for challenges that simply don't need to be made.

It looked to me like their player barged Simms but young Ellis was too strong for him and he came off worse. No foul !

I don't think we're tired, we've just lost a bit of composure towards the end, coupled with the fact the ref doesn't seem to like us trying to win the ball. We aren't allowed to challenge for it unfortunately so we have to wait for a stray pass.

Overall though it's the story of our season - mostly solid, but uninspiring with absolutely no link between midfield and attack.
An obvious sub for me would be Simms for Lubala, who could play on the left and push kaikai up front or just behind Yates. Not that I don't rate Simms but the first time he makes a perfectly good challenge in the second half, he's likely to get his marching orders with this ref.

Come on 'pool.

We need to try to get the ball on the deck a bit more. The head tennis suits Portsmouth much more. At least their players don't fall over when the ball is in the air. Brilliant block by Husband but we can't take another 10-15 minutes like the end of the first half.

If we cut out the silly fouls/the ref stops giving everything their way, they look poor. I'd like to see us put more pressure on their defence as it looks sluggish. The importance of the first goal, as ever, is massive.

Not a bad half but Stewart and Dougall are having to run around with their arms in the air so the ref won't immediately give a free-kick. Pompey look dangerous from set pieces and they're getting enough of those. Kaikai and Ward playing well. Wonder if one of the central midfielders may come off first with Ward switching inside.
