Jerry Yates

I can't remember the Eoin Doyle comment, but here are a few pearls of wisdom from him. It's almost as if, if you give players a few games, they might come good...

[in response to someone saying he might end up being a poacher]
Someone's had a bit of a free afternoon. Wonder how many of 62's pearls of despondency will come back to bite his arse at the end of the season

I know this isn't a Bez thread, so apologies, but I feel his ship has sailed here.
I don't think he was treated particularly fairly, rarely getting much of a chance, yet offering very little when an opportunity did come his way.
I can see him being loaned out early next season and then we'll never see him again, which is a shame; he will be another casualty of the transfer window where we signed a load of similar players, none of which had a set position to work on and improve.

Having said all that, I genuinely hope I'm wrong and he's able to force his way back in to contention and make an impact.
Not every signing works out for different reasons obviously, and not always just because of football. Having to relocate but not settling etc. But we've had a few on the boil like that now where the club have decided to invest a transfer fee and a long contract (at a time where we're being told how expensive it all is to run, even though nobody demanded it). So I'd expect the responsibility to fall on whoever sourced the player, and agreed to coach him, to show us a bit more vision and a plan than that. Maybe a loan out next season when the fixture situation is easier but with a view to returning to the first team.

Dull Mull is back. I'm not afraid to admit that after a poor first couple of months he's improved adding goals to his workrate.
I don't sit on the fence, I say how I see it at any given time. You should try it Dull Mull.

I hope so, he seemed like one of the more exciting signings at the time and from the clips we saw of him at Crawley he looked to have a lot of ability.
I always thought if he'd been bought by a team with a settled side and given a defined role he would have been a decent signing once he was up to speed. Since his arrival here it seems like he's never been given more than a token start amongst fleeting sub appearances.
And then he just vanishes.

He played the same role at Crawley but had more freedom to link up with the front two and try allsorts, knowing not all of it would come off. Their first team is their shop window and they take on released lads from other clubs higher up the EFL. So it's in their interests to let their attacking players show themselves. Then just sell them at the first sign of any interest.

Remember watching one of his early games here at Accy in the pizza cup and he set off down the left but then just stopped and turned to pass at the halfway line rather than take on his man. Like he suddenly thought 'oh shit I've got to do that bit haven't I'.

I don't know if he just gets random starts between now and the end of the season but he's had a hand in goals against West Brom and at Wigan where he's taken up his allocated passing shape position so maybe they're trying teach him to be more disciplined.

Spot on.

Plays very well with a big striker like Madine playing alongside him.
I would like to see Bez Lubala converted into playing as a central striker
in case we lose Madine in the summer.

Am currently reading a book called Nowhere men. All about football scouts. Very interesting to see the speculative fees paid for the next best thing and then to see where they are now . Seemingly we had a guy here on loan called Islam Feruz . ( Nope I'd not heard of him either) Snapped up by Chelsea as a teenager , family housed in London and on a reported £10.000 a month . Now selling designer caps for a living. My point being that more speculative signings fall by the wayside than make it . Wrong time , place, face doesn't fit , injury Whatever . I'd still like to think that Bez will make it and , ideally, with us

I think there’s a player in there, and it will probably emerge next year. If we do go up then I agree his ship has probably sailed though.

I really hope so.
He'd have settled in better in an already established team I think, plus as said above he seemed to have a bit too much rawness for what Critch was looking for at the time when he was featuring in games.
Plenty of time for him yet, it may simply take a goal or two to kick start his career here.

Believe me, I'd love a free afternoon. Only just finished work, think I'm busier working at home than I ever was normally!
