Fees paid for Gretarrson, Lubala, Hamilton and Yates
Money well spent.
(well maybe not Bez but you never know 😁?)

Hull and Sunderland. Jesus Christ.

Surely that is completely unsustainable in League One, both spending nearly half a million on agent fees. That might be close to some of the smaller clubs transfer budgets in this division!

It illustrates perfectly why calls for a return to traditional values will get ignored.

No chance ever of meaningful changes in how PL money is distributed and unfortunately its fans who drive that.

The less we pay the better for me - having just bought a house and equating agents to solicitors they're a bloody expensive waste of time!

Laughable that the club (rather than the player) pay agents. Lets say in the case of Gretarrson the agent comes to us and says I am agent to a promising young player who you should look at.

We look at him, decide to sign him. I would argue that the agent has done a good job for the player, he has gone out and marketed him, maybe used contacts that the player doesn’t have.
But in that position why is the club paying the agent and not the player.

Can’t argue with any of that, however unfortunately that just seems to be the way it is.
If we as a club make a stand and refuse to pay agents this will be to the detriment of the club.

Karl Oyston was in his element when talking about agents as he could be as tight fisted as he wanted while looking like some sort of pioneer while he was at it.

Hard to critique without context. Some of these fees could be to agents gettings players out of a club and off the wage bill. Also, noone is forced to pay the fees, they are agreed between all parties upfront.

"What is the point of agents?"

Well, if you ask an agent they will say ... to look after the player's best interests etc blah blah. However, there is an inherent conflict of interest since their cut is a percentage of the fee they manage to command. Obviously it is not always in the player's interests to merely follow the most money. In the music biz you have a Manager in the scene and it is their job to introduce some balance to the situation and ensure that any decisions made are best for the individual's career.

The modus operandi of every football agent is merely to drive the fees as high as possible, and you can see the unscrupulous tactics employed by a good number of them. However, ultimately the power lies with the clubs and in the absence of any useful stewardship from the EFL, it seems common sense that they should maximise this power by collaboration and agreement over agents, fees and player wages.

However, since when did common sense come into it?
