Swindon Town v Blackpool Official Matchday Thread 02.04.21

Great skill to have in his locker as a centre half, on top of being so reliable defensively.

Ballard has been great for us, but I have no worries about how we'll cope after he leaves with Marv and Gret as a CB pairing.
Always good to have a 3rd quality CB though.

Thought we remained very patient then, I thought it was going to be a long afternoon and we would have to wait for a slip up or a gap and we'd score. They were sitting every man behind the ball and attempting the counter which just wasn't working against us.

This should open Swindon up now which will favour us. GET IN THERE POOL!

Completely dominant, which is fine so long as we go forward occasionally. That goal should bring Swindon out of their shell.

Some unfair criticism of Dougall. He must have had 200 touches in that half and is running the game. A few wayward passes doesn't change that.

Hopefully they’ll try and get the ball in our half and open the game up a bit second half which should be to our advantage.

Thought we did ok until the final third, plenty of passing and possession with very little in the penalty box. Up until young Simms smashed it home, well done young man. They look really poor.

See that’s where I think Simms is most effective.Strength, acceleration and instinctive finish into the corner.I’ll bet he didn’t even have to look some players just know where that bottom corner is.Learning the hold up stuff isn’t going to harm him but let’s look to get Simms into those areas more often.

Why should we not be able to criticise when we were fannying about & going backwards. It improved a bit. Then a great reaction from a long ball. Defensively we are doing ok. Let’s start the second half with a bang. 👍
Its because some use it to justify their barrage of unwonted criticism over the season. Memphisbaby is desperate to prove Jerry Yates is shit, for example

I think we've tweaked our system to accommodate two strikers, so we're playing similarly which will favour Simms as he isn't a target man.

Critch's tinkering paying off!

That was professional, patient first half. That pitch is hurting us on the first touch and the judging of passes - apart from as Wiz says Greta, who is used to rock hard pitches more than most. Hopefully we will now be a bit more tuned in to that bounce and bobble for the second half.

If Swindon are actually bothered about something from this game they'll have to push out a bit and I think that won't suite them. Potential for a couple more for us I reckon.

Our possession paid off there to wear them down. It needed a brilliant goal from Simms to take the lead, though. Swindon were playing like an away team with everyone behind the ball and trying to snatch a goal on the break.

Garbutt is struggling at left back against their guy, Garrick, because he's getting no defensive help from Kaikai. At one stage Gabriel came over from the right to help him out. If Swindon break through in the second half it will come from our weak left wing.

Critch the coach did the right thing giving Simms his head and giving him the start today. His confidence can only grow after such a goal as this. Keep it going Pool.

Simms goal puts us back into 6th👍🏻
I said to my eldest when they 1st got into the playoff spots it's all well and good getting there now we've got to stay there.
At the moment they're doing a decent job of it

Not read this thread until HT. Lots of classic (justified though) moaning then an absolute screamer and we're all happy(ish) Easter bunnies. UTMP.

What a strike! Take a bow young man. Well deserved and needed Sheridan will tighten them up at the break

Just for the record Jerry looks VERY lively today and seems well up for this. With the game hopefully opening up in the second half I really hope we'll have a few more opportunities for the forwards. We are struggling down the left today. Kai Kai seems to be playing quite centrally and hasn't seen much of the ball. Garbutt is being put under a lot of pressure as a result. Grettarson has been superb though, probably had more of the ball than anyone else, is driving forward and picking out passes - on top of that he's constantly available for the pass and is helping Garbutt all day long. I'd probably bring Dougall off as he's walking a tight rope on that early yellow, let Ward sit in central midfield, bring Sullay over to where Ward was playing and let Mitchell roam the left. It's been a good all round performance. Very difficult for anyone to find space with the way Swindon set up so i'm not surprised Kai Kai has struggled to get in the game. Grettarson is my MOTM so far.

Massive 45 mins coming up .. hold on and if the Cods can just nick one against Posh then it makes it very interesting.

My pie and beer routine has been lucky for us recently. You can thank me later. Professional performance from the team. but can be a bit boring to watch when the opposition park the bus.

personally thought a very good first half. swindon literally have two banks of five spread out about 12metres apart. weve been patient. couple of times we have got close to breaking them open, finally one drops right and bang, icing on the cake

Swindon have played like the away side so far. Surely they'll try and be a little more adventurous

Completely dominant, which is fine so long as we go forward occasionally. That goal should bring Swindon out of their shell.

Some unfair criticism of Dougall. He must have had 200 touches in that half and is running the game. A few wayward passes doesn't change that.
I agree completely. He's had a good game on a tough pitch with very few passing oppourtunities due to Swindons set up. Maybe a bit of a silly yellow though especially so early on.
