Seagulls wrecking my cars

Seagulls pecking our cars and causing serious damage. Lived here for 21 years in this house, but never seen this before. They've completely knackered my daughter's car and had a right good go at wifey's too. It's absolutely mental, they just stand there pecking and are ** up the bodywork. I spent an hour chasing them off at tea time. Need to take action. Any advice would be most welcome.

Try a fake hawk or some other bird of prey in a prominent position. Just a thought.

What area of town do you live in pal? Seems this is worse is some area's than others.

We had a bird scarer in a warehouse at work and I wondered what the weird high pitch noise was. Still had pigeons coming in though. Then we had a falconer flying his hawks, which created quite a stir amongst the nesting seagulls, it resulted in a couple less. This was initiated as a few people had been attacked by gulls. All rather Hitchcockesque. One guy was shat on as they dive bombed him, which was pure comedy when he brought it up at a H&S meeting.

one thieving barsteward nicked a four pack of hot cross buns off the better halves trolley at asda yesterday thought she was spinning me an april fool first

I've seen them doing that in the Sainsburys car park on red Bank Road. I think they're attacking their reflection to drive off a perceived rival from their nesting area.

They go for dark-coloured shiny cars with a clear reflection. The solution? Spray muck on your cars instead of cleaning them, or switch to white cars. 😄

I know exactly what you mean FFT. I live in St Annes and the roof of my car is scratched to buggery. I reckon it would cost the best part of a grand to respray it.

Probably, I live just off the prom. You're right it is odd. I've lived near Gynn Square all my life and never seen this before.
Think I'm similar age to you fft and lived here all my life. A bit further inland in FY2. Been going on for years, heard of attacks on Warbreck Hill,Knowle and the Rds off them, more nearer the prom. Seen it happen on the golf course by Northgate and one cheeky bugger nicked my dunlop 65.

I've been dive bombed by a seagull on the way to work once setting off near bloomfield road many years ago. The crazy bastard must have been nesting but kept swooping in and I was ducking out the way. Had visions of the thing lodged in my head as they come at you with some speed.

The film the birds is no joke 😀 when they come for you you will realise. Thats one if the reasons why I have the....

We have 4 large breed cats who have access to the garden in a Catio covered in wire mesh - The seagulls bomb it with stones regularly (particularly when the young ones are fledging !!!) I couldn't believe when I heard the stones pinging off the wire 😮

It would be awful if one somehow made a mistake got inside that catio..... can't imagine it ending well for it.

Then again cats see them far away usually and when up close some are massive and they may think twice.

When I was a kid in the mid-1950s I used to spend most weekends fishing off North Pier jetty. A couple of times I saw someone making a cast accidentally hook a flying seagull. In those days we used a "paternoster" with a lead weight and three hooks, and reeling in a seagull caught on one of those was dangerous.

Their wingspan at full stretch was about 5 feet and they are massive when you get close to them in that state. They didn't take kindly to people trying to remove the hooks and it would take three or four blokes holding onto them to do it.

I ate a lot of dabs in those days - my mum said it would give me brains 😂

Update:
I've purchased a life-sized owl with rotating head and sat it on the wall of my drive. They haven't stepped foot on our drive upto now, so touch wood it might have sorted the problem (although I suspect they'll get used to it after time).

Are you sure it’s an owl? Knowing you, you’ve probably bought a big sex toy that’s had eyes painted on it.you’ll buy anything after 6 pints 🍺🤣

That’s not good timing at all.

Went for brunch in Cleveleys the other week, my granddaughter opened her sausage barm to put some sauce on it and one flew down and nicked a sausage.
They have no fear and manage to swoop with utter precision to get what they want.

Unfortunately it's against the Law to kill a seagull.
WHY? 🙄
As annoying as they can be (I had a pair that nested on my roof every summer) let’s not forget they’ve been around a lot longer than us humans. Maybe If we hadn’t depleted the fish stock they would be less inclined to come inland for food.
